  1. Today was a bad day. Well, so much for the idea that Monday is the best day of the week! The Curtis Fuller sold for $21 per cd. The Kenton Presents and the Herbie Nichols didn't sell. I put the reserve bid at $25 per cd for both of those. My thinking was that if someone doesn't want to pay $25 for Mosaic, then he just isn't interested. I think I will contact the high bidders and give them a second chance. I may relist them as "Buy Now or Best Offer" and see what happens. Any ideas?
  2. Markus Howell retired today. I had no idea that he was so old, or had played in the league so long. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/veteran-stampeder-howell-retires/article1563561/
  3. I always preferred Just Once in My Life to You've Lost That Loving Feeling, but I've always felt that it was because Feeling was beaten to death on the radio and Life was not. If the roles had been reversed, I'm confident that I would have liked Feeling more.
  4. The Bud Shank just closed. I clicked to see its status, and it showed that with only four seconds (!) left the bid was $135.50. Yet when I clicked to see the final tally, the winning bid was $159.28. I think that the buyer got a real bargain with this, inasmuch as it is a 5-CD set, three of which are sealed. However, my Bid It Now price was $200 with free shipping, which was not much more than $159.28 plus shipping. So I can't complain. The winning bid comes to $31.85 per cd.
  5. Here's another question: I am under the impression that each leading bid, including the winning bid, is not the full amount of what the bidder is willing to pay, but only one dollar more than the #2 bidder's maximum bid. Is that correct?
  6. I have another new best friend. Someone has purchased the Chet Baker Studio at $45 per cd. This makes four of the ten I have put up which have been purchased at the Buy It Now price.
  7. As you have seen if you have visited any of my auctions, I paid $5.00 per item for packing materials (from Sandy's recommendation Bags Unltd.), and am therefore charging a $5.00 handling fee to cover it. It appears that eBay is ignoring the handling fee when sending the invoice to the buyers.
  8. I am a little surprised to see that the items with the most watchers (by far) are the Bud Shank, the Curtis Fuller and the Chet Baker Studio.
  9. The Buddy DeFranco buyer has given me positive feedback, so that has freed up enough money to pay for the shipping of the other sets! That takes a load off my mind. One of the things weighing on my mind is that I set the reserve prices too low. Oh well, it's too late now.
  10. I won't know until the sale is completed, but between the eBay fees and the PayPal fee, it looks like 25%. Plus, eBay is shortchanging me on the UPS charge.
  11. Here's an excellent recap of the draft. http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4308392
  12. Hamilton has released Kenton Keith. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/tiger-cats-release-kenton-keith/article1560386/
  13. Cliff, I too am curious! The fees seem pretty high to me. Overnight, two Europeans wrote about the Curtis Fuller and Ike Quebec sets' shipping charges. I replied as follows, and added this text to all of my auctions: "I don't know how eBay determines its shipping figures. If you prefer, I will ship it USPS insured and charge you the exact amount."
  14. BFrank, I'm reminded of Mother's in Peter Gunn. Gunn would drop by any old time for a drink and some great music. Now you can too! (Hope it doesn't mean bad traffic around your home.)
  15. Oakland has released JaMarcus Russell. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/raiders-release-jamarcus-russell/article1559375/
  16. I've just gotten off the phone with fedex. We'll see if they are less expensive.
  17. John, eBay is setting the price for shipping. They are not charging the US Buyers enough, and I am screwed $10 per sale because of it. I had a guy from Britiain also comment about how high the shipping charges are. I have the overseas shipping set for the UPS "Savers" rate. I don't know what else I can do.
  18. I have another new best friend. Within six hours of my putting it up, someone has purchased the Mingus Candid for $46 per cd.
  19. I never got around to playing them! I'm sure they're somewhere. In those days, Mosaic did not seal the CDs, so I made a copy of everything. I know that the CDs in question were played only the once because I have never heard them!
  20. Brad, you may like to see these comments. ***** grooveshark: Cal Tjader - Here & There
  21. It's May 5 once again. I've gone over to grooveshark and am now listening to one I've never heard before called Here & There.
  22. Two more today. Because so many people feel that Sunday and Monday are the two best days to end an auction, I decided to make these two five-day auctions instead of seven. We'll see if any Herbie Nichols fan jumps for the transcription of one of the songs from the set. I'm also curious to see if there is any interest in the two old Mosaic catalogues I am offering. Herbie Nichols http://cgi.ebay.com/MOSAIC-HERBIE-NICHOLS-COMPLETE-BLUE-NOTE-OOP-/130388976726?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Music_CDs&hash=item1e5bc9e456 Charles Mingus Candid http://cgi.ebay.com/MOSAIC-COMPLETE-CHARLES-MINGUS-CANDID-OOP-/130388986807?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Music_CDs&hash=item1e5bca0bb7
  23. In my current eBay Mosaic auctions I have made two sales. Because I am a new seller (less than 100 (!) positive feedbacks), PayPal is holding the money until I receive the positive feedback from the sale or 21 days, whichever is less. This came as an unpleasant surprise to me. This means that I have to pay for shipping (which isn't cheap) now, knowing that I will be paid in three weeks.
  24. Edmonton has released Jesse Lumsden. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/eskimos-release-jesse-lumsden/article1557467/
