  1. HBJ, are you being quite witty with a good pun (in which case I congratulate you!), or do you not realize that the line went "The names have been changed to protect the innocent." Mark VII! Dum de dum dum:)
  2. I have decided to place my Mosaics and various LPs on eBay. Does anyone know where I can order shipping boxes for them?
  3. The Bombers have decided to name Joe Mack as their new VP of Football Operations. He has been in the NFL for the last 22 years, but prior to that he was the Bombers' Player Personnel Director. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/bombers-to-hire-joe-mack/article1439244/
  4. The Riders have decided to name Brendan Taman to replace Eric Tillman as General Manager. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/roughriders-promoting-taman-to-gm/article1438182/ ***** The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Marc Trestman is on the list of Oakland Raiders head coach candidates. However, Tom Cable is still the head coach for now. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/01/19/SPN11BKHK0.DTL
  5. Martell Mallett has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/lions-lose-mallett-to-nfl/article1436890/
  6. I've just learned about a singer relatively new on the scene named Gail Pettis. She has a new album out, her second, called Here in the Moment. Pettis was an orthodontist in Seattle who decided to change careers. I didn't expect much before hearing the album, but it is way better than I imagined. She reminds me some of Diane Reeves. I haven't seen the new album yet on lala, but here is a link to her first album called May I Come In? http://www.lala.com/#album/1657606138431688606/Gail_Pettis/May_I_Come_In%3F
  7. The Stampeders today hired Lyle Bauer to be their President and CEO. Under his ten years of leadership, the Bombers became financially sound again, but they never won the Grey Cup. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/stampeders-hire-lyle-bauer/article1435515/
  8. Happy Birthday 2010 Jeff!
  9. Happy Birthday vajerzy!
  10. Last week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas featured mostly eBook readers and 3-D televisions. But here's an LA Times article about companies displaying the latest in turntables. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2010/01/ces-vinyl.html
  11. Lala: Dave Brubeck Quartet - Jazz Goes to Junior College
  12. Lala: Miles Davis - The Musings of Miles
  13. Happy Birthday HBJ!
  14. I received this second email from our nurse parishioner this morning. "Thanks for the support. We are out of most supplies and have cleared or transfered all of our patients. Damage was light here. No team casualties. We lost five children and two adults. I think around ten more will not survive in Haitian hospitals. We tried to evacuate today. It was a fiasco. The American consulate has lied to us as to what and how we needed to do to evacuate. They left at least three hundred US citizens on asphault all day in the sun without support. We will probably try to evacuate out through the Dominican Republic tomorrow morning. We will be out of contact until we return to the US. Please keep praying."
  15. I'm very sorry to hear this, Soul Stream. I recommend that you keep in mind that you are not alone in your suffering. Our culture presents to the public people who seem to have it all in life. They never seem to suffer. So when your life goes from bad to worse, it seems like you are the only person who is suffering. But in fact there are many people suffering, and probably most don't have an effective way to deal with their problems. St. Alphonsus Liguori wrote that it is better to suffer one hundred years on earth than one hour in Purgatory. I keep telling myself that!
  16. I had no idea that See You Later Alligator and Walking to New Orleans were written by the same guy. RIP.
  17. A man from my church (and a fellow Knights of Columbus member) is a nurse. Monday he and his wife went down to Haiti to help out for two weeks. On Tuesday the earthquake struck. I received his email today: "Many thanks for your prayers and concerns. The situation here is grim. Our team is ok with only minor scrapes. Many civilian casualties and several deaths so far. We are running short on supplies. Phones are down and our internet connection is our only link out. The local civilians are suffering horribly. Please continue to pray for Haiti."
  18. mj, what is a credit worth?
  19. Sony signed with eMusic last year. Now Warner has come on board. eMusic will not be given the new hits, however. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2357979,00.asp
  20. Amen! College coaching is a scandal.
  21. The player contracts expire Feb. 16. Here's a list of the top names who are set to become free agents. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/bowman-chiu-headline-list-of-potential-free-agents-for-als/article1427316/
  22. David, yes. Lala is a cloud computing operation. For 36 cents you "own" the album as long as lala remains in business, and can stream it as often as you like.
  23. Happy Birthday 2010 Andy!
  24. Spontooneous, I don't know anything about the record label. But I know that lala.com is owned by Apple. I can't believe that Steve Jobs would let it sell merchandise it didn't have the legal right to.
