  1. I wonder if Grant Green is playing on Blues In Green & Canteloupe (sic) Woman issued on the Italian LP "I Giganti del Jazz 55". Moreover these 2 titles are played by a quartet...
  2. And so many other musicians...Grant Green, Kenny Dorham, Ike Quebec among others.... which sleep in the vaults for eternity.
  3. I found recently the origin of the additional trumpet solo at the start of the tune "The Turk" on Supraphon (Cz) 1 15 0477, SUA 15988, SUA ST 55988 “Francy Boland & Kenny Clarke Famous Orchestra”. This trumpet solo is from a stereo version (3:14) of the above tune still unissued, but in circulation among collectors. Maybe on the forhcoming "Out Of The Folk Bag" reissue... about october 1, 2018...
  4. Very sad to read that. A great loss for the jazz world. RIP
  5. The Blue Note DY-5805-01 was a bonus LP offered to the good customers I was part of in the 80s. The Blue Note BNJ-61007 was released in Japan quite legally in 1984. I was subscribed to Swing Journal and so I was informed of all upcoming releases including the Blue Note DY-5808-01 and so many others, all sold in 1988 to a parisian store.

  7. This album has only a minor interest. It contains a medium stereo. KPM are all mono. Maybe pressing .. This is a reissue of Jazz Convention Vol.1 (KPM) except for one track (Griff’s Groove) being not included. Liner notes indicate that it was recorded August 1967 in Köln, Germany. KPM (UK) INT 02 indicates that October 20, 1967 is the recording date. The Muse MR 5056 reissue (mono of the above) indicates recording as Prague, Czech 1967.
  8. The Supraphon (Cz) 1 15 0477, SUA 15988, SUA ST 55988 “Francy Boland & Kenny Clarke Famous Orchestra” LPs contain only 6 titles from the original "Out Of The Folk Bag" album. 3 titles are missing: Nice Bunch, Return & Dear Old Stockholm. Note that “The Turk” issued by Supraphon has an additional trumpet solo at the start of the tune.
  9. Clarke Boland Big Band Out Of The Folk Bag (with bonus CD) Release again reported About October 1, 2018
  10. L'Arlésienne: this expression comes from the Letters of my mill, written by Alphonse Daudet at the end of the 19th century. An Arlesian girl never showed up on her wedding day. Her husband waited so long that it inspired to designate a person that we hope. This may be the case of "Jazz Before Motown" ...
  11. Unfortunately, the 3 KPM available on streaming are in mono while the sessions were recorded in great stereo. Some tracks on the Emanon One (2CD) "Historically Speaking".
  12. Very glad to read that he his at home.

  16. Hi folks, The 4CD box set is not for 'completists' because 3 alternate takes from the 'Lucky Thompson - Nothing but the soul' CD are missing ( Thin Ice & 2 others). But it is interesting because it includes the very rare french LP Club des Amateurs du Disque CAD 3001 'Lucky Thompson plays for the Club', never reissued since 1956. Enjoy!

  18. Hi Larry, I felt the same melancholy when I listened to these two CDs for the first time and feel every time I listen to them again. It’s perhaps because this jazz evokes an era that we knew and which alas will never return. In short, our youth which went away...
  19. I'm a "completist", so the least note is important to me, especially when it comes from Barney Wilen who was my friend.
  20. Hi folks, I don’t know what you think, but I'm still hungry. It is said that almost 3 hours have been recorded and we are given only 83 minutes. What will become of the remaining material? Will we have to wait another 58 years? Meanwhile, most of us will have joined my late friend Marcel Romano (at the origin of the project) in the clouds. Let him be thanked here for the music he has left us, but that some responsible (if we can call them that) deliver us in the dropper. By what right? Certainly, the law of the market. I hate these music amateurs, more merchants than music lovers… For all "amateurs" of complete stuff, I made a list of all material described in the booklet. Lined in yellow, the issued titles which last 83 minutes... No comment! LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES (détails).xlsx
  21. Candido is not listed in my files, but Bud played so many times in 1953. Sorry!
  22. The label and reference are: Sinatra Society of Japan (Japan) XQAM-1648 The recording seems to be in the middle of 1953, but the broadcast is July 8, August 8th and 15th. My friend Carl Smith heard the forthcoming material at the Library of Congress, 25 years ago and took some notes included in my late discography. It’s not a dream, you can be surprised because it’s a real big surprise.
  23. On next september 20, 2017, will be released a new Bud Powell CD "Newly Discovered! 3 Knights At Birdland 1953 [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)]"
