  1. Although I understand your decision, Jim, it is unfortunate.
  2. not much but rain here, maybe some freezing rain overnight but any ice on the ground looks to be melted today as it hits the mid-40s.
  3. I've gotten used to a new Lloyd album every year, but there doesn't appear to be anything new happening this year. Anyone know if there will be anything coming out soon?
  4. so is $80 for that Miles Chronicle set a good deal? I still need to get a lot of his Prestige recordings and that box would do it.
  5. I've listened to Quadrophenia more than any other Who. Their best.
  6. Most of these seem to refer to the Upper Peninsula. I mean, it's not THAT cold, at least in SE Michigan. Even Boston gets colder and snowier than this place. And not being from here, a lot of those (non-weather) references are lost on me, i.e. Foxworthy's 5 through 9.
  7. The Earle? It's a restaurant. I think they have the occasional piano trio playing while people eat, but I don't think it's a jazz club. I have a friend who used to waittress there.
  8. Damn. How much begging do we have to do?
  9. Wendy is good people. She introduced Root Doctor on the Chase Stage at The Detroit Jazz Festival and has become a good friend to both bands. And WEMU just reported the new Root Doctor cd at number 2 for the month of October to Living Blues! p.s. WEMU has proclaimed Root Doctor's tune "The Blues Will Take Good Care of You" as the station blues anthem (ya Jim wrote that puppy as well). WEMU is the only station I listen to, in the car or at home (except during baseball season, when I listen to Tigers games on the radio). They really seem to be supporting local talent more than ever lately.
  10. I thought the band might like to know when they are being played on the radio. This morning, about 11:05am or so, on 89.1 FM (WEMU) out of Ypsilanti, Wendy Wright played Greaze Monkey, with an intro that mentioned the virtuosic playing of "Jimmy Alfredson". Nice to hear this kind of music on a local radio station!
  11. can anyone who speaks with "Bob" ask him about the possibility of a box of the 74-75 live material (i.e., the Agharta/Pangaea era)?
  12. Any idea if these are good for CDs I've asked them to hold at the checkout for me?
  13. I found Executioner's Song to be a fascinating, riveting read. I haven't gotten around to any of his other books.
  14. Have a great birthday, Paul!
  15. are these actually released? Borders doesn't have them, and they usually get all of the ECMs
  16. Isn't he a moderator? He also does a lot of their CD reviews.
  17. When I was a poor college student, I still didn't rip people off.
  18. http://stereocentral.tv/phpbb/index.php Lots of really hateful, juvenile stuff here, but also some funny (and warranted) bitching, mostly about the moderators and some of the more zealous sycophants. And no, I don't post there. Personally, I like Steve and his work, but some of his followers are a bit wacky. Holy crap that site is funny!!!
  19. But they all haven't come out in the longbox. The Seven Steps and the Cellar Door sets have yet to appear in the longbox, so I'm wondering if they are even still producing those.
  20. Thanks for all the birthday wishes, everyone!
  21. hey thanks everyone! Chuck you're right, we should have grabbed a beer! Next time for sure.
  22. a lot of the unreleased stuff sounds reminds me of the Bitches Brew box set, with more in-your-face rhythm. I've been really liking this box set more than i expected to.
  23. this has to be the worst world series ever. how did the rockies even make it into the playoffs?? This one is purely the result of the wild card, letting mediocre teams on a hot streak into the playoffs, only to get a dull, lopsided world series.
