I think it's his best since the mid-90s. I'd rank it up there just below his classics, actually. It's a great album. No Hidden Path, the other long song on it, is one of his trademark minor-key guitar epics, something like Change Your Mind
I'll have to remember to check this out. I know very little of her music outside of the Giuffre records from the 60s and her ECM rarum. Nice picture of her, too!
I started to do this same thing last December, after I bought the Richard Cook book about Miles and got the Prestige box for Christmas. I remember simply enjoying it a lot and gaining even more of an appreciation for all of Miles' music. However, I stopped somewhere around the early 70s; still can't listen to the funk between Cellar Door (which I like a lot) and Pangaea all in a row like that.
Just picked it up from a local indie store. It will take me a long time to read this one. Looks like I have just barely scratched the surface of this music.
why does he think people need to see and interact with music that wasnt good enough to release at the time? Most people just want to listen to it, on a machine that isn't attached to a tv. Mind-boggling.
Still is. I got it from BMG about 2 weeks ago.
What about the Life of a Trio discs? How different did the Giuffre trio sound in the early 90s compared to the 60s?
Terrible news. I just recently began listening to a lot of his music; in the last 2 weeks I have gotten Free Fall, Easy Way and Momentum (with Jaume on Hat) and have been meaning to get 1961 ASAP. He will be missed.
