  1. Mike: that's exactly what I've mailed MC as well (I have a 1999 reissue of the Hawkins LP from Japan). I'm sure he'll look into this as well. Anybody who owns the 80's CD's of these LP's who can confirm the tape or dubbed from the LP's question?
  2. What do you suggest David? That my information isn't correct or that Mosaic shouldn't post this until it's a finished deal. Just curious. This is also listed on the future releases page so it's not so strange at all: Each of our sets is a time-consuming affair to assemble from securing rights to tape research to studio mastering to the photographic, historical and discographical research for our booklets. Each step is fraught with surprises and therefore it is possible that the Future Projects may not see the light of day.
  3. Just listened to the Land and the Adams and they are sure nice indeed! Also the remastering sounds good to me. Not so bright and high boosted as the McMasters, really warm sounding (maybe the tapes are like that). Does anyone have any comments on the Hall and Condon (Lon?) sound and music wise? Not my style (yet?) but I would like to hear some opinions on those.
  4. Spontooneous: are you sure they were produced from masters? Maybe they were copies or just transfers from LP's.
  5. Sad news.......Universal can't find the masters (neither in the US nor the UK) so this set is a no go.
  6. Well Kevin B. I think I need to corredt you before any harm is done. Not ALL SACD's have SACD stereo playback as well. THere's a Universal Classics (Eloquence) series for the German market only (god bless) which has SACD multichannel only so no stereo SACD (besides on the CD layer of course). I didn't know this and bought some to learn the hard way there was no use for me to have them. Sold them on ebay for more so it's OK!!!!! I agree that all other SACD's (that I know of) do have a stereo SACD layer.
  7. the booklet says all the music the musicians wanted to include fitted on 2 cd's so they decided to make it a 2 cd set. Strange they didn't lower the price but I'm sure they will use it to keep up the good work they ar doing. Great 2 cd set imo.
  8. Maybe covered elswhere but what is volume 1 in this series? (Coleman is 2 and Jean-Claude Fohrenbach is 3 so there must be a 1 as well).
  9. Nice story Rooster but which version do you recommend? We all can trust your opinion on this because of your experience with it. I really like the Ormandy/Philiadelphia version as well (in SACD format it sounds great too!!). And let's not forget the Herbert Blomstedt version with the San Francisco Symphony on London/Decca which might be OOP now.
  10. The Garland will fit easily on 2 cd's. The Japanese set (which I have too) is indeed 3 cd because of the 1 disc per set......a rip off so to speak! I geuss they'll use the same remastering (20 Bit Digital K2) for the US set as well.
  11. Why ignore the clothes? That Megadeath t-shirt looks awesom!!!!!
  12. Don't know if this was mentioned already but Heptagon has a very useful website: www.heptagon.se
  13. Shaft: In my opinion the TOCJ24 are superior to the regular 90's TOCJ's which are darn good as well. I didn't compare them all but the overall caracteristics of the 24 Bitters are very well produced by my system (and to my ears). Other people on this board can tell you excactly the opsite so it all depends on taste and system and what we want to hear (or not want to hear is maybe better to say).
  14. Welcome aboard Shaft!!! The RvG editions in the US are not Copy protected (in the EU they are) and they will include all the extra tracks available. The Japanese usually release the original LP content so without the bonus track (some exceptions were made in the past on JRvG's and the 80's issues).
  15. Just got the clearance to tell you the good news: Next RVGs 2/7 and 2/21 First date Dexter Gordon - Gettin' Around ICPN: 0094633775725 Andrew Hill - Smokestack ICPN: 0094633777729 Hank Mobley - Workout ICPN: 0094633777125 Lee Morgan - The Gigolo ICPN: 0094633776227 Horace Silver - Horace Scope ICPN: 0094633777521 Stanley Turrentine - Joyride ICPN: 0094633776623 Second date Art Blakey - Mosaic ICPN: 0094633776920 Dexter Gordon - A Swingin' Affair ICPN: 0094633775428 Hank Mobley - Dippin' ICPN: 0094633777323 Lee Morgan - Tom Cat ICPN: 0094633776425 Horace Silver - Silver's Serenade ICPN: 0094633774520 Jimmy Smith - Softly As A Summer Breeze ICPN: 0094633777927 Looks like a neat batch to me.
  16. I was just teasing you.....see the Feb RvG thread
  17. there's a february batch of USARvG's comming up so let's keep your fingers crossed Workout will make it (I have the regular TOCJ, JRvG and the TOCJ24 so I don't need it). The TOCJ24 aren't expensive and sound superb IMO so for those who can't wait that's the route to go!!!
  18. MC's response was: stricktly big band personnel (trumpets, trombones, saxes + rhythm) so that's why the other sessions are left out.
  19. Yes it will be in the Mosaic set. This will be one of the few complete LP's on this set much to my regret (that rhymes!!). And not all of the Nelson BB tracks with SMith and Scott are included either. If MC answers my questions about this I'll let you know the reasons behind this (they must be very logical but I can't see them).
  20. I have a Jazz at Massey Hall, vol.2 (Japanese 20 Bit K2 VICJ-2023) with the Trio tracks and the drum solo on it. Togehter with the regular Jazz at MH this should be all right? I recall the JaMH Japanese 20 Bit digital K2 to be sounding much better than the regular K2 I had. Maybe something to do with the bass not being overdubbed on the latter one?
  21. I really like Oliver Nelson and his style of arranging. A no brainer for me the upcoming set. I have everyting which is/was available as Japanese imports etc. but still I'm going to get it. The ARGO sides never made it to CD and some Verve's neither so that's a big plus too. I recall talking to MC about this a year or 2 ago and he responded enthousiastic that it was a great idea......so it does have effect sometimes to keep bragging about a set!!!! Most of the Clarke/BOland material on MPS is currently being reissued by Universal Germany and Japanese Universal so a set of that is unlikely in the near future. Didin't Universal plan a Herman Philips set? I know MC couldn't do it because they wanted to do it themselves (but that might have changed now).
  22. How about a new series: the one-off's!!!! Mosaic isn't limited to it's own preconceived sceme (is that readable English?).
  23. and Concord isn't going to maintain the Fantasy inventory either so I should buy all the OJC's you want in the near future because chances are high they are OOP soon.
  24. Not odd at all not to include the Connection LP. 1) It's from the 60's, 2) it's modern jazz and not mainstream/swing 3) masters are owned by a different person/company. To let you all sleep tight tonight MC told me it is going to be a reissue on Blue Note or Mosaic when they have secured the rights to do so.
  25. Here's a home solution (very cost effective). Use car pollish and the scratch is gone (or as good as).
