Hello all,
I'm looking for a US printed version of the Don Cherry Complete Communion CD and was wondering if someone of this board could help me with it cheaply. I know the Amazon, eBay route etc. but if one of you has one lying around I could help you get rid of it!!!!
Is the Ace of CLubs label the same which reissued British Decca classical music? If so I believe it was just a Decca subsidary which reissues at a lower price point. So was this LP originally on Decca or am I completely wrong...... To add to the praise of Vocalion. Suberb reissues with great sound. Kuddo's to Michael Dutton who owns Dutton/Vocalion.
Well Steve it's quite simple.....Michael Cuscuna doesn't like them. He considered them for this release but decided against them because he thinks Ike isn't playing as good as he should and the recording itself isn't up to RvG standards as well. These tracks were the first ones recorded in the new Englewood Cliffs studio and he was still experimenting and trying to get his "RvG" sound right in these new premises.
I have it for some time already and I believe it's a great CD. Progressive yet rooted in traditional jazz with a nice modern tough (that sums it up!!!).
Hello all,
just got the word the next batch of reissues of Mighty Quinn are available for pre-order. Release date is still october 11th. They are:
PEPPER ADAMS - CRITICS CHOICE
HAROLD LAND - TAKE AIM
EDDIE CONDON AND EDMUND HALL
See MIGHTY-QUINN.NET for details.
Any opinions on the first two releases (Rawls & Ellis)?? I got them yesterday from Jerry himself in Amsterdam but didn't listen to them yet. Top notch packaging (same tyle as the resent EMI reissues and from the same factory).
The TOCJ-93xx and 95xx series of JRvG's have the bonus tracks we're accustomed to get on the US editions. All others don't have them (Tocj-90xx, 91xx & 92xx).
I think the Peterson/DeFranco item is from the Verve Elite edition because the same tracks are on it and it wasn't issued on CD before that issue so.......
of course they can because it's an entirely different company (under the same umbrella). But they are not stupid. They won't release things which are substandard so the possibilities you're thinking of are limited imo.
Did anyone notice the blooper on the cover of the new RVG of Bobby's Oblique?
Herbie Handcock mind you........
Luckily the forthcoming US edition has the corrected spelling for Herbie on the cover. It was sent to Europe for production without the propper checkup by MC and Tom Evered. What a shame....
Those two tracks will not be on the new twofer. MC doesn't like them (sound and play wise) and thinks they alter the flow of the cd's. Yes he is still the boss (luckily)!!
mike you are really missing the boat here. This is the complete live Music inc band so that's it. He released more of course: a big band Music inc and quartet things but this is withing the scope MC took "complete".
Stanley Cowell on piano, Cecil McBee and Jimmy Hopps on the Slugs date and Clint Houston, bass; Clifford Barbaro, drums on the Tokyo date. (All live recordings by the way).
I thought I'd check first before I get replies with links to other threads which discuss it at length...
The Tolliver will be Strata East material. All the small group recordings with the Music Inc. Band.
The Live at Slugs vol.1 & 2 with three unissued tracks and the Live in Tokyo with three unissued tracks (taken from a video and in mono).
I have the original issued CD's (Japanese imports of course) and like them a lot so I will be buying this set for the updated sound (Addey did the transfers from the original tapes) and the extra material.
This is I'm sure the beginning of a lengthy and fruitful coorperation between Charles and Michael.
Didn't see too many postings about the 2 upcoming selects (Pacific Jazz Trio's & Charles Toliver).
I'm going to buy them although I have most of the Tolliver and some of the Piano Trios (not the Clare Fischer's).
so it's not the Dutch customs and or postal services.......I also get the Mosaic shipments after 7 or 8 weeks. Not acceptable imo. I'll check with MC if there's something they can do about this.
