Arthur Blythe 'In the Tradition' I don't think has ever been released on cd. Great date with Stanley Cowell, Steve McCall and fred Hopkins IIRC. Killer version of 'Jitterburg Waltz' on it.

And the Phillies get?? Delmon Young. Meh. Think how much fun Delmon Young'll be when he's drunk and near a synagogue!

Doesn't explain how Tampa scored 48 on the Raiders and doesn't take into account Barrett Robbins vanishing. Also, if they really felt that, why wait ten years to say something?

my dentist wont return my knee
PHILLYQ replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee in 1996(torn meniscus) and have had no problems from it at all. I went to a local hospital, two blocks away, and it turns out that the surgeon was rated one of the top ten in NYC by New York magazine, so I got very lucky. After surgery I used a cane for three days, but walked normally afterwards. I was given rehab exercises to strengthen the joint and did them religously. After six weeks I returned to playing handball and I still play today(I'm almost 57). Surgery has advanced quite a bit and does wonders in many cases, especially with mine. Be sure to get an MRI to get a good look at your knee and check around for a good surgeon to do the job. -
I saw him with Dave Holand's Octet a few years ago and he was excellent.

I just got around to listening to that- hilarious!!! Thanks for posting it.

Your argument about every one juicing centers on the athletes all having equal access to equal drugs that produce equal effects in each person, no? I don't think that's the case in real life. And then there were still athletes that weren't juicing at all, so those were at an unfair disadvantage, though ethically and morally correct. And some folks are better at doping...

Earl Weaver was way ahead of his time. He was using statistical analysis before anybody had a computer.

And tried his very best to destroy the lives and careers of all those who told the truth about he was up to. Don't think that "all of his peers" did that. Yes, but that was not cheating, that was something else. Only the winner would ever have had to do that. Why be more angry about Armstrong's cheating than about that of every rider who took a podium place, or indeed of anyone who placed 50th? The answer is not in the cheating. That was already there in the sport, there are hundreds of names implicated. The teams and cycling authorities knew all about it. So yes people dislike Lance humanly, but without him some other cheat - sanctioned implicitly by the team and by the race and by the UCI - would have won. Hate Lance, yes if you like, but why not hate everyone else? If Armstrong were not so arrogant in his denials, if he didn't sue and otherwise try to ruin people who told the truth about his doping, if he had merely denied the doping and then admitted it I might be OK with that as an admission of guilt. But he didn't.

Lyin' sack of sh-- as we say in Brooklyn.

It's a good thing I wasn't drinking anything or I'd be cleaning up my keyboard now!!! That cracked me up! Right after the last SB I saw Brady's face on the Dos Equis guy, and the caption was 'I don't often play the Giants in the Super Bowl, but when I do, I lose'

going to the grave in debt

IIRC, a lot of bankruptcies are not caused by profligate spending but by medical bills -
He did a great job for the Yanks last year filling in for Rivera

Although Eddie Murray hated sportswriters and they voted him in. Rose is still disqualified.
-
IIRC, Sports Illustrated did a poll of NBA players and KG was also voted the dirtiest player. After I saw that poll, I started to watch him more carefully and he does a lot of stuff that doesn't get called, elbows, locking up arms, stepping on feet, etc, much more so than other players.
-
The way he played and the blind eye to concussions made it inevitable that he would suffer. Same as Dave Duerson, etc.
-
A happy ending, and once again Mosaic lives up to its reputation as a first-class operation.

Every player who received 50%+ in their first year has reached the HOF. Rose violated a rule that has been streesed since the White Sox threw the WS. There's a sign about it in every facility. He knew that what he was doing was wrong, he knew the potential consequences and he STILL did it. Zero sympathy here, you make your bed...

Wayne Shorter's Without A Net on the Blue Note label
PHILLYQ replied to EyeSpeech's topic in New Releases
Wayne not only lost his wife and niece, he also lost his young daughter decades ago. There was never a good explanation put forth as to why the plane crashed, and I recall folks saying that they had seen something hit the plane. -
As well you should, because the Falcons may have their hands full with Seattle. I don't know how many people have figured it out yet, but the Seahawks are for real. Don't be too surprised if you see a rookie quarterback in the Super Bowl after all. For real? They played a pretty soft schedule this season and with that pretend win against the Packers and an injured RG III, I'd say luck had plenty to do with it all. The Seahawks weren't so hot at the start of the season, when they were working in their rookie QB. But they beat four playoff teams during the regular season and (so far) one more in the playoffs. They compiled some fo the best defensive stats in the league, despite the slow start. In a three-week period toward the end of the season, they beat St. Louis, Buffalo and San Francisco by a combined score of 150-30. They've won eight of their last nine games. Today's team is much better than the one you saw vs. Green Bay on MNF. But obviously you're right, they're just lucky. And you'll probably say that if they beat Atlanta, too. The other factor with the Seahawks, as with the Giants last year, is that they seem to be peaking at the right time. It's not how good your regular season record is, but how well you're playing going into the playoffs. The teams with a bye should be wary, football players are creatures of habit as much as anybody else and a week off could blow up their rhythm. There was one year the Giants had the first week bye, then they played their playoff game and got flattened. How about the Jets hire Rob Ryan as DC, and make Buddy Ryan the GM, so they could have a three-ring Ryan circus! Jerry Jones said during the season that he would fire himself as GM.

I have no proof one way or the other, but Henderson was always known to workout religously and he took care of his body. I don't think he was ever a drinker or carouser. IIRC, he also didn't have any odd spikes in performance that would indicate PED use.

It's entirely possible it was in the mail prior to Sandy and the PO had it and then Sandy hit and... My own experiences with Mosaic make me confident that they'll do right by you. Were their own offices damaged by Sandy? They could be a bit slow to respond if they were hit hard.
