  1. Claude, This guy is looking for cash or money order, has zero feedback, lives in Russia and is an Ebay member for the last 6 days. I wouldn't risk a dime on that...
  2. Oddly,as I remember it, Cannonball had a top forty hit with 'Mercy,Mercy Mercy'
  3. UA, Hiroshi gave me the option of paying in yen or US$.
  4. When you pay in yen through Paypal, you are at the mercy of Paypal and whatever rate they are charging that day. When you look online for conversion rates, keep in mind that those rates are for large($250,000) deals in a particular currency. So the rate that you see on any currency converter is not what Paypal will charge you- they'll take that rate and then jack it up a bit. If it is a large purchase that could make a difference in what your final cost is. When you pay in dollars, your cost is fixed. When you pay in yen your final cost will vary depending on when Paypal processes the transaction and what rate they are charging at that time. I bought some discs from Hiroshi recently and was able to pay in $US.

  6. Her rendition of "Charge" usually gets the crowd going...
  7. I thought I saw a post from Mnytime last week on a thread about headphones and volume. Mnytime claimed to be a doctor on that thread...
  8. Does anyone know what Elvin Jones' ailment(s) is? I'm just curious.
  9. Don't forget that the schedules haven't come out yet for the freebies, like 'Celebrate Brooklyn', and the River to River Festival'. I saw Don Byron last year for free doing early rap & funk, caught Blood Ulmer with a blues band(including Vernon Reid) last year, etc. You can't beat the price...
  10. I'd go for Eale Warren myself- after all those recordings, he had a great career as a Supreme Court justice, including the Miranda ruling, etc.
  11. Splendid job again, Couw!!!
  12. Check out the link below for an interesting disc. You may recognize two of the names in the blurb... http://www.ccmusic.com/item.cfm?itemid=CCM04352
  13. Now I remember...Brownsville Station opened for ZZ Top at that 1974 gig in Central Park. A nice NYC reception for a Long Island band. People were throwing shit at them.
  14. I saw a full page ad in the Village Voice for Van Halen- they're going with the original lineup.
  15. Janet & Michael both bought their noses at the same place.
  16. 7/4, Was that Mahavishnu concert with Jean-Luc Ponty, and it rained like the devil in Central Park? I recall McLaughlin saying, "If you can take it, we can play" before an amazing encore.
  17. It's not music, it's product! Let's see Janet Jackson, Madonna, & Britney Spears onstage with nothing but a piano...
  18. Out of the three hot guitarslingers to come out of the Yardbirds(Clapton, Beck & Page), IMHO Beck has done the most musically. While Page is counting his money and digging out old Led Zep tapes, and Clapton is still trying to do something of substance(IMHO, the last one was 'Layla', and even that had a lot to do with Duane Allman), Beck is still smokin'. His latest live disc ROCKS extra hard, with Beck showing that he hasn't lost his fastball or his way with a riff.
  19. I remember them described as 'One guy with talent and three without'...
  20. I had my first jazz & rock at the same concert! August 1970, Fillmore East to see Santana- the opening act was Rahsaan Roland Kirk. I was completely clueless as to what Kirk was doing, but within three years I loved what he did and went to see him at the Village Vanguard and enjoyed it immensely.
  21. Especially if they can show it swirling down(Clockwise in Australia)!
  22. I will actually have to stop buying discs soon- I'm due to get laid off, and whatever I wind up in will mean a large pay cut. The cd budget will be the first to go, unfortunately. I was thinking, though, what if I give up eating? Wouldn't that save me enough money to STILL buy cds... Spoken like a true addict, right?
  23. All Jazz Corner needs now is people who post about jazz!
  24. My sympathies, Ghost. Your mom was quite an accomplished woman. We're here 24/7 for you.
