Moving vinyl cross-country in summer heat
PHILLYQ replied to clifford_thornton's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
You don't necessarily want to be on the Parkside Avenue side of Prospect Park. Nice during the day, but can get ugly at night. Good luck with the apartment search and let us know where you end up. I'm a lifelong Brooklynite, so welcome to the nabe. -
I don't get it, why do you guys think the Heat now needs an aging veteran at guard??? Whether it is Nash, or Allen??? Just to help out the teams losing them?? The Heat (like or or not) won without an aging guard. They had a couple other players who are aging, Howard for one, but they have their veteran in Wade, youth in Charlmers, Cole and there is one other young dude. Do you guys hate the Heat that much that you think Pat Riley is going to start stocking up on aging guards?? They won but the overall lack of depth was definitely a nagging concern. LeBron cannot play 45 minutes night in and night out like he did in the Finals. The key questions are whether the guys who weren't really in the regular rotation can step up and deliver quality minutes to replace Miller and maybe Battier, and that's difficult to gauge right now. Terrel Harris showed some encouraging signs but barely played except in garbage time. To me the real puzzle is what to do at center. Dexter Pittman looked overmatched throughout the year and Spoelstra appeared to have no confidence in Eddy Curry even though he worked his tail off to get in shape. If Curry puts in the mental effort needed to really be a good defender and work within the offense, the team could be really scary. Or maybe they will stick with more of the same and keep plugging Anthony/Turiaf/Haslem into the center spot. Don't hold your breath on Curry, he's been a stiff for a long time and I don't see that changing anytime soon.If he worked his tail off to get into shape, that's the first time he's done that in a LONGGGG time.

Hookers the world over are breathing a sigh of relief. They need more FBI agents that think this way. Now if they can convince the Secret Service...

I've listened to the disc a few times and I also love it, it crackles with energy. -
You think the Rangers would let him go? I'm sure they'll try to keep him, but there's sure to be a few teams that come in offers that will be batshit crazy in terms of years and/or dollars, in which case, I don't know how hard the Rangers try to meet or beat. The guy's magic when he's healthy, but he's also streaky, and he's prone to injuries, some major, some not. And he's not a kid, so a 7-10 year deal at big bucks a la Pujols is not a good bet. OTOH, he's one of the best, if not the best, talents in the game right now, and is definitely an impact player. A nice crazy-money five, or even six, year deal is something I don't think the Rangers would balk at, not at all. But you know that somebody's going to offer 7 or more years at even crazier money, and that might be the point when the Rangers tell him "thank you for everything" and start moving on. Josh gonna make the best deal for Josh, and that's how it should be, dammit. And dammit.... That's gonna suck, but life goes on, and as long as the system is developing players like Leonys Marin & Mike Olt (and as long as they keep developing themselves), you just gotta hope that good business sense and potential talent don't cross each other up. One team that would be quite doubtful for Hamilton is the Yanks. They're trying to get under $189mil for payroll to escape the onerous luxury tax due to kick in in 2014 and they have Granderson & Cano as free agents prior to 2014. There's even scuttlebut that the Yanks may have to let Granderson or Cano walk to keep the payroll under the $189mil.

sickening penn state football allegations

It was an EPIC FAIL by all those involved. ALL THOSE INVOLVED! They did a regular Catholic Church move, protect the institution at the expense of kids. -

I'm going to see them this Friday- I'm psyched! -
That could turn out helping both clubs, the Chisox need some production from 3B and the Redsox need everyday playing time for Middlebrooks at 3B. Maybe the change of scenery will awaken Youkilis' bat.

With you on the last two anyway. I'll take NY leftist atheist.

Kudos to LBJ and the Heat.
-
I think you mean a correct call here or there? Seemed like all three OKC losses had controversial calls that favored the Heat, IMO. Just a coincidence, I'm sure. A different call, sure, but just missed shots, rebounds grabbed or not, etc. The last three games came down to the last minute, so anybody could have won those games.

Matthew's Psychedelic Comp Recommendation of the Year
PHILLYQ replied to Matthew's topic in Recommendations
It arrived in the mail yesterday and I've listened to about half of it and I LOVE it! Verry psychedelic and trippy, loads of fun. Thanks much for the tip, Matthew -
Is it just me, or could this series easily be 2-2 or even 3-1 favoring OKC? A play here or there and we could be talking about Durant getting his first ring.

What's also sad about these situations is that no matter how well the station does in the future the programming & the hosts won't be back.
-
I actually saw him do something on a basketball court last game- he helped LBJ off the court after the cramps episode!!
-
He changed film criticism. I also used to read his reviews in the Village Voice and enjoyed them greatly. RIP

Listening to Falu now, very good. I've seen her a few times in concert, always spot on.

Not jazz, but Jeff Beck somehow keeps getting better.

The best part of the lunch was the icepop! -
There was a play late in the game where LBJ had the ball and was in the lane and it looked to me that LBJ elbowed the defensive player, who wound up on his back. The angle wasn't very clear so I wasn't 100% sure, and Van Gundy said it was not a foul. I'm sure there are multiple cameras covering everything- would it kill ABC/Disney/ESPN to show another angle and let us see for sure? I sure can't take JVG's word as he's blowing up the hype-meter.

What I find unusual about the perfect games is how many of them were pitched by pitchers who were decidedly NOT Hall of Fame pitchers. Barker, Larsen, Witt, Buerhle,Humber, etc.

IIRC, Nixon used that against a female opponent, calling her a thespian, with what was considered a shady connotation in those times. -
And by winning last night the Mets helped the Yanks! Collins is doing a great job managing the team, and if they had a decent bullpen they'd have 5-6 more wins easily. I'm a Yank fan but I watch the Mets also, and this year's edition is fun to watch. They never give up and fight to the last out.Ya gotta respect that.
