  1. If you can find the Downbeat from the 70s that had an interview with Miles where he was asked about Al Green and said "Al Green- if that mother***** had one tit I'd marry him!" I'd love to read the entire interview again.
  2. The ending to me was showing that the game remains the same, only the players change. Michael becomes the new Omar, Sidnor as the new McNulty, Carver as the new McDaniels, Dukie as the new Bubbles, etc. When seaon 5 comes out on dvd I'm definitely getting that(I have 1-4) and the watch the whole thing again.
  3. No. this is not a comment on the series finale as I haven't watched it yet. In the penultimate episode when Clay Davis & Lester are in the bar and Clay Davis is starting to spill the beans, the tune playing in the background is Ramsey Lewis playing 'The In Crowd'!!
  4. I was at that concert and it was excellent- Zorn should have asked for a review!!
  5. I have a live one done on Ayler that I enjoyed, and he even plays(IIRC) 'Cherokee' on it.
  6. Any mention whether a new recording will be forthcoming with this music? Sounds great! I believe it comes out on the 18th. I bought it at the gig and I'm listening to it now-very very good.
  7. I found that pretty hard to take also. Of all the kids on the education season, only one is doing OK, when all any of those kids needed was someone to care about them. How true to life unfortunately.
  8. The text under the pix reads like a really bad translation, maybe by a program- weird...
  9. For title alone, 'Gotta Go Upside Your Head' sounds like a winner!
  10. On Friday(2/29) I caught John Zorn at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn. The group was about identical to the Electric Masada group, Trevor Dunn, Marc Ribot(!!!!!!!!!!), Joey Baron, Cyro Baptista(!!!), Kenny Wolleson, Jamie Saft &Zorn. They played new music written by Zorn, and Zorn mostly conducted and played alto sparingly. The music was definitely reminiscent of Electric Masada, and boy was that band tight and intense! I had always thought Ribot was a real good guitarist, but he was absolutely stunning on Friday, causing many spontaneous eruptions of applause and cheering. Cyro Baptista was the mad scientist of percussion, grabbing everything around him and making just the right sound to fit what the rest of the band was doing. My first time at this venue, and it was very nice, low key crowd also. Lou Reed was in the audience. A great night of music in my favorite place in the world-Brooklyn.
  11. ...and now Moss is staying with the Pats.
  12. Hello all, I stupidly deleted an email from Jazzloft that has a code to get 10% off on a purchase of $50+. I want to spring for some Braxton and the code will help. Does anyone remember it, have the email, etc? Thanks much to anyone who can help.
  13. Ha!That's what they would have us believe- the truth is...
  14. At best he's half the player Kirk is. This could be debated, but I'm not going to give the board any bait with this one. I will say Roland wishes he was half the composer Shorter was I do know that. How do YOU know what Rahsaan wishes? I'm not sure why it's necessary to rank them. Different players, different approaches. Apples and oranges. Both are great and have contributed a lot to the music. Not to be pedantic, but RRK is gone and can't wish anymore.
  15. Johnny E, I felt badly that I didn't get to see you last time in Brooklyn, but I can definitely make one or both Brooklyn gigs. See you there!
  16. I remember reading his columns when I was about 10-12 years old and he kept me reaching for the dictionary-he had a HUGE vocabulary! That said, while his columns were well written, his politics were quite odious.
  17. The first concert I went to was Santana at the Fillmore East(August 1970), and the opening act was RRK! I was 14 and didn't get RRK at all. Three years later I was lovin' his music. Bill Graham did stuff like that, having Miles open for Neil Young, etc. I haven't looked, but the concert that this thread started on might be on Wolfgang's Vault.
  18. Thanks to HBO making episodes available on On Demand a week in advance of their airing on HBO, I do know what happened to Omar. I won't spoil it for everyone else though. Yeah, On Demand is great, I have it at home. However I am travelling and can't get it here. You can give me a hint, I promise not to tell. Marlowe: "That's some Spiderman shit."
  19. Pollock, If you're in exile here it's a hell of a lot better than Elba.
  20. I saw that show and I was yelling at the TV, "You can't be THAT stupid!!!" It seems that she really is THAT stupid.
  21. Welcome to the board Danimal- as you'll find out, this is a great bunch when you get to know them a bit.
  22. "I'm not giving her the needle, you give her the needle"
  23. The new stadium will be called CitiField(insert subprime joke here), but as I've pointed out to some Met fans, if they play lousy it will be known as Shittyfield.
  24. I went to see it with my 15 year old son last week. He was disappointed with the movie- I think he expected more. I liked it quite a bit even though it was sometimes hard to feel any sympathy for some of the characters(Yuppie Scum). Good monster movie and a worthwhile accompaniment to a large bucket of popcorn.
