  1. ....Shouldn't Al Davis be on the "Pre 20th Century" list?
  2. Bobby attended Erasmus Hall High School on Flatbush Avenue, where he was said to be friendly with Barbra (then spelled “Barbara”) Streisand. He dropped out to concentrate on playing chess. The school is now closed. The school was actually closed as Erasmus and reopened as a few small schools. My wife is a graduate and a sister also went there. here's abunch of other famous Erasmus graduates: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erasmus_Hall_High_School
  3. Baseball: Yankees At 8 years old(1964) they won the pennant and then lost the World Series. I thought they'd be back soon-NOT! had to wait until 1976 when I was 20. I was a Yankee fan through the Horace Clarke years. Football: Giants They used to play at Yankee Stadium Basketball: Knicks(FIRE ISIAH!!! MAKE DOLAN SELL THE TEAM!!!) Hockey: Rangers, but I don't follow the sport much at all
  4. Well,then, it's not unanimous...
  5. Mark, My best wishes to you- I hope that everything works out OK for you and that we get to see your sterling wit again soon.
  6. Happy Birthday to a great gal!!(I'm an old bag so you undertsand it's meant as a compliment0
  7. Please post the list or PM it to me- I may want to buy some. Thank you very much.
  8. Happy Birthday- may the strings be with you!
  9. Berigan, Your friend needs a new lawyer ASAP! Anyone with ALS should be a slamdunk for disability. You're being a real friend to this guy, which is probably what he needs badly, someone who is not out to fleece him or abuse him. I hope everything works out OK and I applaud you for doing the right thing by him.
  10. Hello all, I saw this yesterday and got a good laugh at it. Note the name of the group! http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/rhymes.asp?date=20080102
  11. Here's what Tom Hull had to say in today's Village Voice: In the reissues category, I missed out on Mosaic's lavish box sets, but hardly had time after digging through Allen Lowe's That Devilin' Tune: A Jazz History [1895-1950] (WHRA), a book lavishly augmented with 36 CDs, divided into four cramped boxes of nine each. Deliberately anticanonical, he doesn't get to Louis Armstrong until the end of disc nine, and doesn't let bebop hold court while Kid Ory's still cooking. http://www.villagevoice.com/music/0801,hull,78770,22.html
  12. I went to a concert in Central Park, NYC around 1972/3 and I actually saw Brownsville Station('Smokin' in the Boy's Room' was their one and only hit) opening up for someone else I can't recall except thet their music was very unlike Brownsville Station. The drummer had one of those gigantic kits with double bass drum, double and even quadruple everything else. For their whole set he only played the hi-hat, snare & one bass drum- all the rest was for show only! After a few tunes and much booing, the singer said" I hear you guys yelling 'You suck', but we're gonna keep playing" Right after he said that they launch into another tune amid much booing, and some guy near me threw an apple at the stage and it hit one of the unused drums in the drummer's set, split in half, and half of the apple hit the drummer square in the forehead!!! This of course led to a standing ovation for the guy with the great arm!!! So even though the music was awful I did get entertained.
  13. It could be worse- they could go back to Buffalo for one of those 28 inch blizzards!
  14. Tonight was hummus, babganoush, tabouli salad and Moroccan chicken. A lot of work but worth it once I started eating(My wife loved it).
  15. A very happy birthday to a great guy and someone who has hipped me to lots of great music. Sometimes I just check to see your most recent posts and I'm almost always finding something witty, informative, incisive, passionate, etc. Thank you for making this board such a cool place to hang out.
  16. I thought this was livers, kidneys, etc- carry on.
  17. If, and I emphasize if, the Yanks are out of the Santana sweepstakes, what's to stop the Bosox from walking away from it all? If you take the view that the Bosox were in it primarily to drive the price up for the Yanks, if the Yanks are out then the Bosox can just tell the Twins to either go away or "Here's our package(reduced from previously)- if you want it, OK, if not, see ya." Thsi has largely been a two team market for this deal. If no one else makes a good offer for Santana, then maybe the Twins have overplayed their hand and they may get only the draft pick when Santana flies the coop after the season. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out.
  18. I understand Jim's decision but I'm still BUMMED about it. This is the first board I ever joined and easily the best. Great folks here and a body of knowledge that is unmatched. If $$ is what's needed I'll ante up on a yearly/monthly/whatever basis. if it's too late for that kind of rescue, well I hope to meet up with you folks somewhere else. And Jim, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
  19. Totally off topic, but who is that on your avatar? She sure is purty!
  20. Yeah, he was a hoot! And those jackets!!!
  21. Dick Vitale- TURN THE SOUND OFF-he's quite irritating Brent Musberger- Tries to make every game the 7th game of the World Series. He was broadcasting a college basketball game once, and after about two minutes there was no score. Someone made a shot and BM exclaimed"That basket was HUGE!!!". Duh, it's the first basket of the game- will anyone remember it at all? Chris Berman- nails on a blackboard. Why can't he be like his brother Len? Len does local sports on the news shows and is low key and smooth as silk. Walt'Clyde' Frazier- A man unafraid to drop some vocabulary when broadcasting. A player isn't just having a great game, he's 'omnipotent'. Great fun to listen to him extemporize loquaciously.
  22. She's from Brooklyn NY!
  23. So there's your confirmation that Coco has some appeal despite his recent hitting struggles. I would think the Yanks would jump at a Crede-for-Damon swap since the salaries are quite uneven and I don't think they'd do any better than Crede. A Crede for Damon swap would be a good move for the Yanks IMO, it clears a little of the DH/outfield jam and makes it possible to sign Rowand and move Melky Cabrera to left with Abreu in right. The defense improves quite a bit that way and Matsui can DH and do some outfield. Paging Mr Cashman...
  24. I got it on CD(maybe from Hans!) and I was also in the audience!
  25. I once spent $35.00 for an Akira Sakata disc(import) becasue it had Pete Cosey on guitar. It was a very good disc. On the flip side I sold a single disc for $40.
