The Cough That Doesn't Go Away

Flurin, you'd think this book would be mandatory reading for all postal workers. In all honesty, I've never read the book. But based on the many glowing reviews on Amazon, I really should pick this up. Sounds like a very interesting read to say the least. -

I think you've hit upon something, David. I guess it would have been a smart decision for me to have stopped biking for awhile. I might have gotten over this nonsense much sooner. You just get into this mindset, right or wrong that I'm going to work myself through this and you end up making things worse for yourself. You hate missing any time whether it's in the gym or out on the road. Hopefully I'll learn something. Then again, maybe not? I would like to thank everyone for there good thoughts here the past few days. It's much appreciated. I'm glad things are ok, especially with the aeorta thing. That kind of freaked me abit. Now, I just gotta get better with this cough. Thanks to Alan for his good humor. His last post really made me laugh and I didn't cough once. -
The Cough That Doesn't Go Away

Well I went for the Cat Scan and the good news is every turns out to be normal. The question of the enlargened aeorta, turns out to be nothing. It is normal. Everything looked good. I was very fortunate to know the doctor there who went over the results shortly after the scan. I've known her for years from the local gym I work out at. She took the time to show me the results and that made me feel much more at ease. As for the cough, I discussed that with her and she doesn't really think it's that big of a deal from viewing the test results. I started out some 8 almost 9 weeks ago with a head cold which quickly blossomed into a cough, which was followed weeks later with an episode of the swine flu which worsened the cough, to only now with the use of the inhaler seems to be improving things. She felt I really haven't had the opportunity to fully heal. At this point, whatever happens in the next 2 weeks will determine where things head. I have to go back to my doctor for a followup and he'll decide what if any further treatment is required. Hopefully not. -
He appears in a Blues Traveler video, the name of the song escapes me right now. I see it at the gym every now and then. Sad to come across this news. Too young.

The Cough That Doesn't Go Away

I have an appointment set for tomorrow afternoon. Thursday is my scheduled day off from work this week but they couldn't work me in. I know work is going to be really thrilled I have to leave early tommorow with such little notice. I guess they'll have to just get over it. -
The Cough That Doesn't Go Away

Thanks guys for the positive thoughts and good words. When I spoke to the doctor on Wednesday, he recommended me seeking out a pulmonologist in say 2 - 3 weeks if things don't improve. On the positive side, I don't have pneumonia which is one less thing to worry about. The doctor believes I have some sort of inflamation which is why he recommended the inhaler. Weird, this all started out from a cold which quickly developed into the cough 2 months back. It kind of sucks I have to work today. I work as a postal letter carrier and the forecast is calling for rain for most of the day. I'll make damn sure that I keep as dry as possible. I just can't afford this thing getting any worse. I guess the main thing is at this point, I have to keep myself from stressing over this. Thanks for letting me sound off guys. -
I'm not certain if anyone here has any insites, but I've been plagued with this nagging cough for the past 8 weeks. During this time I have visited the doctor 3 times. The first time he gave me an inhaler containing Spiriva. The results were minimal at best. On my second visit a month or so later, I was given a strong cough medicine containing codeine. This was during the time I had also contracted Swine Flu which made the cough much, much worse. After taking the cough medicine for a period of time, the cough was less aggressive, but still hanging in there. I noticed I would cough a good deal when I first awoke in the morning. Less so as the day progressed. Well as I said, I've had this darn thing for 8 weeks now which prompted visit #3 on Wednesday. This time I was prescibed another inhaler, but containing Symbicort. I also was sent to get a chest X-ray. Ok, this is where the concern mounts. I was told initially I would have the results by Friday afternoon. Instead, my doctor called me on Thursday morning and told me I would need to go for a Cat Scan most likely next week once the insurance issues were irorned out. While he felt there was no reason for concern, he said that a shadow appeared on the x-ray and one of my aorta's was enlargened. For much of my adult life, fitness has always taken a high priority for me. I workout 4 days a week with the weights and ride my bike 2 days a week. I take supplements and eat pretty well for the most part. I'm in pretty good shape for age 49, thank you. This shit has kind of thrown me for a loop. I'm trying to stay cool, but I can't help wondering what the heck is going on. Any advice or thoughts would be most appreciated. I should also add I've had a history of bronchitis, but not since my teen years.

Swine Flu. Anyone here come down with it?
Tom 1960 replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The cough is the darndest thing to get rid of. I have that for 7 weeks now and shows no signs of going away soon. Better now than a week ago. The cough medicine with codeine helps so much. -

Allen, get as much rest as possible. The only thing that really helped me finally get over this thing was alot of sleep. -
I haven't participated in one of these things in the past mainly because you guys know a hell of alot more than I ever hope to. That said, what the heck. Count me in! Could be fun. Download sounds good.

Big New Herd at the Monterey Jazz - Woody Herman
Tom 1960 replied to Tom 1960's topic in Recommendations
Thanks for the input fellas. While I do enjoy some big band performances, Woody Herman wouldn't be someone I would normally gravitate towards. Hearing the track played on the radio station and then the announcer mentioning all these familiar names sparked alot of curiousity. Adding this one to the wishlist. -
I heard a track off this album earlier today and was really intrigued by the many great musicians the announcer mentioned who played on this live date. Recorded at the 1959 Monterey Jazz Festival, musicians included: Herman on clarinet or alto, Al Porcino and Bill Chase on first trumpets, Conte Candoli and Ray Linn taking trumpet solos, trombonist Urbie Green, Victor Feldman on piano and vibes, guitarist Charlie Byrd, bassist Monty Budwig, drummer Mel Lewis, baritonist Med Flory, and the tenors of Zoot Sims, Don Lanphere, Bill Perkins, and Richie Kamuca. Any thoughts on this release?

KSDS FM San Diego I've been listening to this station all morning since I'm sick. I just turn the speakers up and head back to bed. They've been playing some great music. -
Swine Flu. Anyone here come down with it?
Tom 1960 replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I've been taking Tylenol for the fever and ocassional chills and that seems to be working. I'm getting ALOT of sleep. I'm pretty much confining myself to my bed, since it appears when I do get up and move around I start feeling bad again. I'm coughing my head off at times although I am taking some cough medicine the doctor prescribed to help. An interesting story, I called work yesterday to talk to my supervisor after my doctor visit and that I had the swine. She wanted documentation from my doctor that this was the case. She said it was one thing if I had just the regular flu, but since it was swine she needed to follow a different set of procedures. -

Swine Flu. Anyone here come down with it?
Tom 1960 replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Just came from the Doctor a short time ago and he said I had the swine flu. I felt crappy last night and after going to bed early in an effort to get sufficient rest, I still felt lousy this morning. Called in sick. I have a fever, achiness, lack of appetite, all those wonderful symptoms. I'm out of work for at least the next 3 days, possibly longer. This coupled with the fact I've had this nagging cough the past 6 weeks which only has gotten worse over the past 24 hrs doesn't help the situation. I had an annual physical 6 weeks ago and got a flu shot but nothing for the swine flu. I'm pretty much confined to the house and have to get plenty of rest. It sucks but what can you do? -
Birthday greetings, David.

I tried to give a friend a headsup on the Side Steps collection, but it was too late. At least I got my copy and that's all that matters.
