  1. The local radio station in Woodstock played a track the other day from the band Assembly Of Dust's recent release "Some Assembly Required". On the opening track,"All That I Am Now" Havens shares lead vocals. A pretty nice track. If I don't here it again soon, I'll have to phone in and request it.
  2. Ditto on the above. Just finished listening to disc 1 and now onto disc 2. What a great collection of music so far. Thanks to ejp626(Eric) whom I recently purchased this set from. An excellent acquisition it seems.
  3. I do really enjoy the new look. That said, someone asked in an earlier post about the location feature which is now missing. I don't want to make a big deal out of this, but one of the cool things about this place is seeing the many different folks who post here from all around the globe. Any chance this will be revived at some future date?
  4. Happy Birthday, David!
  5. Enough to convince me to purchase this today at a local music shop. Thanks!
  6. Lala: Kenny Dorham - Showboat Wow, what a real nice date. Dorham, Jimmy Heath, Kenny Drew, Jimmy Garrison and Art Taylor circa 1960. This is one of the great things about lala. Here's an album not easily available, at least not too affordable and you get to hear the album in it's entirety. If you want to shell out some extra bucks for the release, at least you know where you stand before you make the purchase. IMO, worth obtaining.
  7. Lovely disc, Tom! Got it used a couple of years ago from Reckless Records in London's Soho, a fine establishment now gone the way of most record shops. Happened to spot this at a local independent retailer recently. Maybe I'll stop by later today and see if it's still in stock.
  8. Lala: Thad Jones/Mel Lewis - Consummation
  9. Lala: Oliver Nelson With Eric Dolphy - Straight Ahead
  10. A couple months ago, I purchased this at a local music store for $20. The music is great. Being able to read the liner notes however is impossible. A great example is the back cover of "The Bridge". The print is so tiny and faded, even with my reading glasses on there is no way I can make things out. Good deal though if you want to purchase a bunch of Sonny Rollins releases on the cheap.

    Sean Jones

I've been pretty busy the past few days and have been listening to the album "Gemini" on lala.com when time permits. Some of the music I really enjoy. The synth stuff, well mixed feelings on this. As was mentioned by a poster in the Gemini thread, this isn't Blue Note from 40 yrs. ago. It's much more contemporary outing. I'll keep this album in mind and at the same time look up some of his other sessions. Thanks for the commentary, guys.
  12. Far too late now, but back in there hey day, The Kinks could have made a great Christmas album. "Father Christmas" is a classic.
  13. Randy Weston Mosaic Select - Disc 1
  14. PM on Gerald Wilson.
  15. Ok, you guys convinced me. I just placed the order. Thanks one and all.

Gosh, hard to believe no one here has any thoughts on this guy either positive or negative? Ok, as you were....
  17. Lala: Cannonball Adderley - Nippon Soul

    Sean Jones

Since I've been off the past week, I've had a good opportunity to listen to XM/Sirius Real Jazz and had the chance to hear Sean Jones. A name I'm not familiar with. Young trumpeter with what appears a fiery style which I really enjoy. I think he might also play on the recent Gerald Wilson release? Anyone here also dig this guy and wish to offer some thoughts? When I heard this guy, it made me pause and take notice.
  19. Happy birthday, John.
  20. I've got a freebie coming to me from Yourmusic.com and seen this was recently added. I realise there are more worthy sessions I should check out first, but since it's FREE what do you think?
  21. Thanks for the overwhelming . I'll be sure to pick this up soon.
  22. I've been off this week catching up on some painting. To help pass the time away, I've kept Sirius/XM Real Jazz channel cranked to help pass the time away. At one point yesterday they played a live Count Basie cut I believe from the Newport album in '57. The track escapes me, but it really cooked. Any thoughts on this album?
  23. Sirius/XM has been playing a few tracks off the latest release. Sounds like a good one.
