Amazing. I was sitting in my car the other day, and as Young Girl was playing on the radio I was marveling at its pedophilic pomposity. On who's playlist I wonder? It's seems more Tom Cruise than Dick Cheney, letting it all hang out like that. Way out of line.

w/ Horace Tapscott. Anybody know it? It's available from Dustygroove. I am curious about this, as well as Blackburn's later soul/Afropop. Thanks, Dan

Tell Roche my offer to MC from 4-5 yrs ago still stands. If need be, he/they are welcome to borrow my mint (you can eat off it) clean Japanese copy of Essence. It is from the mid 60s, sounds mighty fine. (I had heard that some of the Pacific vault had gone missing or damaged.)

coke leads to harder substances, like bottled mineral water that costs more than....coke. Seriously, everyone should drink less Coke, and more spring water. And get some exercise. Or you're gonna die sooner, not later.

This Thom Crooze debacle...

I maintain (my wife will attest) that some lucky few starting a successful new religion will be the biggest reality TV series yet. Be patient, it all comes true on TV eventually. -
Just won the Curtis Fuller Mosaic LP set on eBay
AmirBagachelles replied to DrJ's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
DrJ: you might be even luckier than you are aware (til now). I had planned to snipe for around $202, but I spaced. Nice get at $144! It is a great set I think, rarely seen on Ebay, don't know why. {Groove Yard in Oakland was disposing of an estate in mid-2002, sold the CF set for over $400 on Ebay (at estate's specific request, they don't Ebay normally) } CF and Sam Rivers sets have been in my sights, for about 2 yrs now. -
yeah I have a question. hey who cut your hair?

I wouldn't buy from any strange dealer, or a store where the goods are not priced before you walk in the door. There are more important considerations than the price, or lack of, on any one record you see, even if it's one you crave. Again: I stick with Groove Yard in Oakland (easy to deal with by phone, owner Rick Ballard really nice knowledgeable guy), and Jazz Record Center in NY (owner Fred Cohen also a great guy, his mind is an incredible resource as well). If I've paid an extra $2-$25 for any particular title over the yrs at these stores (pricing is art, not science), I've surely paid less for others.

I retract, sorry. I tend to get a easily overheated on issues of ownership of intellectual property rights.

sorry, but the search facility doesn't seem to work for me. admin: feel free to merge this over... I am new to YLT, love the songs, feedback and other production subtleties so far after Electro Pura, And Then Nothing..., Summer Sun and backing Stamey last yr (don't remember the name). Is the whole back catalog re-done in glorious fold-out digipacks with obis? Man those are sweet! I hugely dug the live Feelies back in the 80s (no doubt Ira K worked some of the shows I saw at Maxwells), but could not get satisfaction from their records... until now sort of.

Thanks. If you're Stollman, perpetuity is good. And if you're Sunny, it's not. What a crock.

ESP is some great sh!t no doubt, but comes with some real baggage in terms of unhappy and ripped off artists. So what is the basis for the assertion that these newest ESPs are "completely authorized"? (If so, I can't imagine the whole catalog is now legit by the artists.)

Looking for an appliance to store my CDs
AmirBagachelles replied to AmirBagachelles's topic in Audio Talk
Thanks, very intriguing. FLAC lossless -- what is a normal ratio betw that format and WAV? That's the answer I am looking for really. Can I stash say 1000 CDs on one huge system at no loss of fidelity? -
I want to finally put my collection on hard disk, but I have no interest in anything lossless. On the other hand, WAV is just too large. Are there good, easy to use tools to store music in FLAC or some other lossless format, where I can get a good capacity savings, and be able to decompress and play it on the fly? Do any appliances for sale work in this manner? Thanks

copy of Lyon's Jump Up (Hat) for trade
AmirBagachelles replied to AmirBagachelles's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I have heard neither Ray A disc, I only have the big band Gramavision disc. Thanks, maybe I'll try for a CDR sampler before paying up with the Lyons as booty. It is such a drag wanting to hear numerous old Hat discs for so long (like 5+ yrs in some cases). I still haven't found a single soul who can turn me on to Cecil Taylor's Garden part one. Scarcity definitely seems part of the Hat strategy. I wonder how the artists with zero distribution feel about Werner at this point. -

Like new condition. I am trying to get Ray Anderson's Cheer Up, or Azurety. Or Gerry Hemingway's Special Detail. Thanks, Dan -
pay the artists for OOP CDRs
AmirBagachelles replied to AmirBagachelles's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I'm thinking more in terms of financially deserving living artists whose catalog of good works may be unavailable for reasons out of their control. But circumstances vary -- e.g. if there's a Mingus you have to have, go for it, send your money to Sue. -
The Braxton gift thread reminded me that I was recently able to purchase some amazing OOP titles from another artist, at $15 each. (No names used here.) I would recommend you contact artists directly and ask about the availability of their out of print, and sometimes rare work. In this case, I got beautifully signed CDRs, nicely scanned color artwork, and the pleasure to compensate this artist directly. Way way cool.

Are the Mitsui gold discs available at 80 min capacity? Also, where do you find 80 min Quantegy or whatever they are called now? Thanks

Cool news. Hopefully one day the tapes from the second half of 1970 will re-surface.

Favorite cartoon DVD box sets?
AmirBagachelles replied to trane_fanatic's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
For young kids (7 and under), there are some good Disney DVDs that are all about one character or another. I rented the Goofy DVD to show at my son's birthday party (betw tie-dye shirts and pinata bashing) and it was a major hit. I find the Looney Tunes stuff too violent or even politically incorrect for my youngest at times, but I love it. You go Foghorn!
