A warning about a board member -- pryan
AmirBagachelles replied to Bol's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I think two weeks is about right before choosing the nuclear option to go PUBLIC with a polite plea for more info from the counter party or other parties, no bold accusations. There is always plenty of time to get nasty if need be. -
Anyone see this Simpsons episode?

I am getting the DVD of season 5, has my favorite episode: Bart's Inner Child. Can someone tell me in what season did Homer eat fugu? The episode has a favorite line "Bart.... I like your sheets." (guess you had to be there) -
Fantastic news about Marion's improvement! I love his records, they are all about feeling.

DTM Gallery is a fine institution. I go out of my way to buy from them. They are open-minded and love the music. Be sure to visit them when you are in NYC.

Guacamole--food of the gods
AmirBagachelles replied to Peter Johnson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Keep it simple, 5-6 of your favorite ingredients plus the avocado. Garlic, onions or shallots, and sea salt for sure though, not too much lemon juice, can't stress that enough. I would mash very gently with a fork, for a nice rustic texture, not like canned dip. And oh my god, my guac has to arrive with an icy Negro Modelo, or the deal is off. -
I would go with a used NAD amp and CD player, maybe buy new speakers that you like and can afford. I would recommend finding some mini monitors that appeal to you and just putting them right next to where you sit, forget about high volume listening until you can spend more. I snagged one of those all-in-one NADs at closeout, I listen to some 6 yr old B&W 602s, and I am content. That whole rig or something like it has to be out there in the used mkt for $500, since the whole thing new was $850-900 I think.

A good deal ahead: The next Pure Jerry release will be two nights (4 discs) from the Merriweather Post Pavilion (Columbia, MD) in the summer of 1989. I'm a bit pumped, as it should rock like the first JGB Live Arista stuff. Don't let go...

my favorite ballad from a rock/folk album: Dylan and Cash (Nashville Skyline) - Girl from the North Country for rock ballads, try Jerry Garcia - Loser, Friend of the Devil, Candyman There must be dozens on the good and bad Fairport records. Anybody know some? And did the masters Ray Davies and Pete Townshend try their hand at a few ballads?

It sounds as if these have been hijacked in distribution. There is more stock coming, but at something like $5 additional wholesale markup. I'm sure the artists will be as pleased as we are.

I don't know who here has seen/heard The Concert for George, but I believe Eric still has it in spades. And as for: That's a good night out: Clapton, Bloomfield, and Coryell.

that's really GREAT news on DP 34!! A huge winner!!!

For me, '68 Dead is the apex for pure visceral energy, I can't get enough. Check out that supplemental Alligator on the Anthem re-release, it's the part of FTV 2 that's missing, and it might be the most fun part.

Agree with that, not a few people think Phil is terrific overall but nevertheless knows and tells way more (minutiae) than he should.

I'll pledge. I got a free education in jazz history from '90-'93 as a reverse commuter, listening avidly to Schaap and Sid in the mornings and evenings. Amazing great quality radio.

A great unsung rock guitarist: Bill Kirchen of the Lost Planet Airmen. He could sling it back in the day. I don't think I ever saw a more entertaining live guitarist.

NE Blizzard of 2005 (Part I?)
AmirBagachelles replied to Guy Berger's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
It's Brooklyn in the country here tonight in Brooklyn, everybody just rambling down the lane out in the middle of Smith St. Quite a few drunks. And who is out driving? Totally nuts! Tomorrow we go by dog sled to Prospect Park! (Don't tell the dogs, it's a special surprise.) -
I think I heard from someone in a position to know (or so I thought) in late 2003 that Where's Brooklyn was getting close to the top of the heap. There have been quite a few great titles lately though, so no complaints here. I hope they continue to give Sam Rivers' other titles a consideration too.

This seems like a good place to find out about the recent quartet and solo reissues on the America label. Has anybody heard these? (I see a funny writeup by Eugene Chadbourne of an earlier Inner City reissue of the solo music. Maybe the new reissue sounds a bit better...)

The DTM Gallery website has a pretty bleak assessment today of the going fwd availability of the Free America titles. Any help on locating alternate sources of the AECs and this series would be appreciated. Cheers, Dan

This may not be news, but Mosaic is taking pre-orders now on the Hill Select.

DrJ: "posterity", "public figure". I read a strong reaction to mild words taken out of their presentation context, and possible their context of meaning. There is no upside to speaking with the press, when the press acts irresponsibly. Out of context presentation is irresponsible and on the Internet, we are often the press. It is a slippery slope to tabloid journalism (and bulletin boards) to draw weighty conclusions from a few sentences.
-
It's scary that a sentence or two, anyone's, can get taken from it's context and presented as a topical "quote" conveying broad meaning or intent. Scary and ridiculous. This thread should be history.

Great rocker, nice resume. I love the early New Riders records too. Cosmic American music is among my favorite kinds. I'm putting on those tasty '67 live tracks from the JA Loves You box. The other side of this life indeed.
