I recently purchased 11 of the 15 and held off getting these 4: Art Ensemble: Certain Blacks Art Ensemble:w/ Fontellabass Paul Bley: Inprovisie Anthony Braxton: Solo Improvisations Free America is a wonderful series packaged similar to Verve Elites with good sound. Does anybody have opinions on the above 4 , I appreciate your thoughts. Dova
  2. I bought this off e-bay for a good price and thought I'd take a chance on it. I have a feeling I'm going to like it . With Steve Lacy, Evan Parker, John Zorn, Anthony Coleman and Andrea Centazzo (the founder of Ictus Records and an excellent percussionist) It ought to be an audiophiles dream. Anybody else hip to this collection? http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=22716 http://ictusrecords.com/30/explore.html
  3. Street Corner Music in Franklin (suburb of Detroit) is a great store with good selection of new and used cds and vinyl. I have purchased a lot from the off of half.com and amazon and they alwats have quality reasonably priced stiff.

I thought I missed this series and these would be hard to find but I just pulled th trigger on 11 out of the 15 titles at........drum roll please................ Walmart.com all in stock priced $14.88-$16.88 and better yet, shipped site to store at my neighborhood walmart 2 miles away. Thus there are no shipping charges, just local sales tax.Whats not to like about this, excellent series fills a hole in my avant collection at reasonable prices. Can you imagine going into your local walmart and finding these titles in stock? I think I would faint. They will shoot me an e-mail in 5-7 days for pickup and in the mean time ,I'll give my ears a rest in anticipation of the wakeup call this music should bring.
  5. I've got them all except the Teegarden which I'll pickup if I ever find it priced reasonable ($15-20)
  6. One less Max Roach Mosaic available as I point and clicked 4:48pm cst. I have most of this stuff in various formats but as a drummer, there is no way I could pass this up. Same with the Elvin Blue Note Mosaic, I have all of it in various formats, bought it before it was gone, haven't opened any cds yet and am laughing as this OOP set has fetched prices North of $300.00. Long Live Max Roach!
  7. I have Elvin Jones And then again/Midnight Walk and the sound is good put has reverb on keyboard sounds. I tend to stay away from Collectibles and have recently focused on KOCH Jazz reissues. Most of these were out from 1999-2001 and many are HDCD which my player accepts. The John Handy Columbia re-issues from the mid to late 60's are extremely special and sound great. Also picked up Red Mitchell /Harold Land's Hear Ye! and Buddy Defranco Blues Bag.I now notice Collectibles is now releasing a lot of the KOCH stuff but I won't touch for my moneys worth. Dova
  8. When in doubt, go for the Blue Note Japaneses "KING" Vinyl of this session, although they will set you back north of $100.00 each.
  9. I hoped off the fence and ordered the Elvin set. I have all of this stuff already on Lp and cd but it's nice to have it all in one place. If nothing else, I'll keep it sealed for investment purposes. Who would have thought that count basie and Maynard OOP cd Mosaic sets could bring prices north of $75 PER DISC
  10. My Borders doesn't have any of them and they don't show up as an item that they will stock. What's up with this? Borders always got at least one copy of each new conn release on the release day. They said they would try and order for me. I guess I should look for them on line since I won't be able to use my 30% off coupons Dova
  11. I got it several months ago and have only listened to disc #1. The sound as you say is fantastic, the sidemen are all top drawer,(Sweets, Rowles, Carter,Thad, Webster,Wess,Peterson,Freddie Green,Ray Brown and many more) and being a drummer, I welcome drum solos and so far all with taste. I picked this up because I don't have the majority of these sessions(only This one's for Basie).I also like the small group sound Buddy gets with the cast of allstars as opposed th his routine Big Band groups. Some can be picked up individually in the Verve LPR series, Buddy and Sweets, Blues Caravan. I will get busy and listen to the rest of the set and post additional comments. I like what I heard on disc 1. Dova

    Roy Brooks

What recordings is Roy on?I would love a list of recordings that Roy plays drums on as a sideman. I picked up his BEAT cd on Workshop and it is very cool. I love his playing and need more of him on cd or Lp. Thanks! Dova
  13. Got the Buddy Rich Set: Mostly stuff that has not surfaced on cd before and the sound mastering is incredible. The musicians are first rate and the drum solos when they happen are not offensive. Only listenened to disc 1 so far but this stuff swings like crazy. Recommended! Merry Christmas everyone! Dova
  14. Hello: I buy some things from Audio Advisor and they have a Music Hall "Mambo" Integrated that received a nice review from Stereophile. I have a couple of friends that are in the market for a new amp and are checking this one out. See link from audioadvisor for more details and good luck. By the way I have 2 different integrated amps. 1 is an Audio Research CA-50 Tube Amp and 2nd is a Simm Audio Moon I-5 solid state and switch them out . Good Luck! 15. Well: I just went to Border's and picked mine up using a 30% off coupon that expired yesterday. Also plopped down to big gift cards from my October birthday and paid a whopping $22.82 for the Cellar Door Box. Would like to take the rest of the day off and start listening but will have to wait. Can't wait to get everyones reaction to this long delayed and highly anticipated set. Dova
  16. Hello: Over the thenksgiving weekend, I hit a few records stores and ran across a "Rufus Jones" record on Cameo. I immediately got excited because I try and pickup recordings by drummers. Rufus Jones did one Lp and this is it. He is an unbelievable player with technique on the level of Buddy Rich. He recorded for Maynard Ferguson, Basie, and Ellington and also the drummer on other Cameo Lp's I have which are: Clark Terry (2), Maynard Ferguson (2).This Rufus Jones Lp has a stellar lineup. The only other Jazz Lp I know of put out by Cameo is a Teddy Wilson session. Are there any out there familiar with the Cameo label which I believe was based in Philly focusing on Pop fare and has anyone else ran across this Rufus Jones Lp?
  17. Hey: Don't laugh but I got caught in a bidding war 2 1/2 years ago on e-bay and paid $53.00 but it was sealed and in a Long Box like they used to put out in the late 80's. The thing swings like crazy and the Baritone sax raises the hair on the back of my neck. I guess this justifies my expense and it is extremely rare in the domestic version. Dova
  18. Hello: I'm selling this set and further information can be found in the "Offering & Looking For" thread. Thanks! Dova

  20. Dear Matt and Lora: It was a pleasure to play at your wedding and what a beautiful ceremony and reception it was. The atmosphere at Tarp Chapel was special, the food awesome, and thanks for the kind words on the quartet. If there is anything I can do for you in the future, let me know. For starters, after you have come down from the wedding euphoria and honeymoon. I want you to come over for a listening session. You bring a handfull of your favorite cds, I'll invite my friend Phil aka "Deep Groove" and he'll bring over some vintage vinyl and we'll go for it. Who knows, we may turn you into a vinyl junkie and audiophile which can cost you some serious bucks on the equipment. I love this chat board for getting us together. Thanks again and congratulations. Dova
  21. Matt: Do you need a Jazz Trio or Quartet for your wedding. I can't believe we don't know each other being from Tulsa but I haven't made many posts. Too busy listening and playing Live Jazz. Seriously, I can hook you up with Jazz entertainment and even play drums for you. Best Wishes and remember that after you are married, each cd you buy you have to buy something nice for your wife in return. Dova (John Dellavedova)

  23. Hello: I'm a Hastings junkie when ever I'm traveling and see one. I have hit several in my geographic area and have accumulated over several dozen of the audioquest cut out cds. They are amazing for their sound quality and an excellent test disc for yor audio system if you're into that. Also, the players are all top notch and they cover jazz, blues, rock, and quasi new age genres. I was in the Fayetville area this weekend where there are 2 hastings and Scottb who started this thread is correct in that are a LOT of the audioquest cds for $2.99 most of which are still in print at $16.98 each. Also picked up Hilton Ruiz on Steeplechase and Idris Muhammad on the Cannonball label (the cd with the little steel ball sliding around the jewel case) doing duets with Gary Bartz, Joe Lovano, and George Coleman. 24.
