  1. Glad you guys enjoyed the show--it was a labor of love to put it together.
  2. It's like the jazz version of a Higher Power! Weird timing for me on this topic--just yesterday I read about Orson Welles' madhouse musical version of this book in the late 1940s.
  3. Already archived for online listening: Clark's Last Leap: Sonny Clark, 1961-62
  4. Simon Callow, ORSON WELLES V. 2: HELLO AMERICANS (1941-1947)
  5. Kitchen's returning (obviously, I guess) but no word yet on Honeysuckle Weeks or the actor who plays Milner. (Though I think I read an interview with Weeks a few months ago in which she made it sound like she would be returning if they did do a new series.)
  6. Great news! Thanks so much for posting it, tranemonk.
  7. Confirmation for a new season of Foyle's War, via the Guardian:
  8. It's a great set, discussed elsewhere as well, though I can't find the thread right now. Still hoping that Mosaic covers this era with a big-band box, though.
  9. My only Mosaic nightmare would involve them going out of business.
  10. Not part of BLOWIN' THE FUSE, but some here might be interested in this recent Bear Family release: Big Al Sears
  11. KFSR-Fresno, California (California State University's station, run by former Org board member Joe M) is going to begin airing Night Lights on Mondays at noon PST and Saturdays at midnight PST. You can check out all of the stations where Night Lights now airs on our stations map (moving the cursor over the balloon and clicking yields the day/time of broadcast and a link to the station's site).
  12. Yes--we tend to run them during our weekday jazz guy's late-afternoon slot, often on holidays when he and I are both off. I haven't heard the KOB one yet.
  13. Congrats, Dave and Bill. IMO Marc's writing the best classic-jazz blog around, and it's widely-read, too.
  14. Jackie and Roy are getting an entire show to themselves in the next couple of months, possibly for Night Lights (or for Afterglow, another weekly show that I do). Herb/Lorraine and the McPartlands will probably figure in a potential sequel--and I'll probably have room for a Jonathan and Darlene side or two in that one as well. Bill and Renee fall outside the general timeframe of the show (1945-1990). KOB, LV? That's a damn tough act to follow!
  15. That's the theme for this Valentine's-Day edition of the program--it's already archived for online listening: Dearly Beloved: Husband-and-Wife Teams in Jazz Next week: "Clark's Last Leap: Sonny Clark, 1961-62"
  16. Thanks, Mark. I'm so sorry I missed it, but end-of-the-week work just piled up too much by this morning. Glad to hear that it was so well-attended and that things went so well.
  17. Apologies if there's already a version of this, but thought we all might want to hip one another to great deals (particular on OJC/Fantasy catalog material). For starters, there's Ella Fitzgerald: the Concert Years (4-CD set) available right now for $7.99 (through Newbury on Amazon Marketplace).
  18. The Indianapolis Star has an obituary up now, with some more background info on David: David Young I interviewed David Baker yesterday and am continuing to gather material for a Night Lights show. Sheldonm, I'll probably try to make the funeral tomorrow.
  19. Those are both outstanding sets! Two very different bands, but wow...the Hep 1944-45 really blew me away when I first heard it. And some great airchecks on the Hindsight set (from a period that Artie was pretty scathing about whenever he looked back upon it).
  20. I think you'll enjoy it, Bertrand.
  21. Yes, it's the Jazz Unlimited--thanks, KU, couldn't remember the name of the label. I need to do a comparison to see how much extra material has landed on the Hep, but I'm enough of a Shaw fan to want to take the plunge.
  22. Looks like Hep has a new release out--a 2-CD set of Artie Shaw's 1945 Spotlight broadcasts: New Releases I have a single-disc comp of some of this material but will probably trade it in and go for the Hep.
  23. Got an e-mail from my dad last night, passing on a post from one of his discussion groups that stated: Anybody here have comments/experience regarding the above?
  24. Yeah, I just read the original NY Times article myself: Sirius XM prepares for possible bankruptcy
