Watched some of the Yankees-Jays game yesterday, with fans in attendance—good to see and hear even a very small crowd again. The players sounded pretty jazzed about it as well in post-game interviews.
Oh man, so glad you liked it, Brad! I’ve actually been contemplating a prequel of sorts, focusing on the 1944-1950 years that would draw on the Deccas, the 1944 Commodore sides, and some live recordings as well.
Thanks for the tip--I have the Fresh Sounds collection and just about all of the individual CD reissues, but I went ahead and sprang for a near-mint copy of the vinyl box at $75, including shipping. Look for a Night Lights show later this year, as I've long considered devoting a program to the label (served as a great rationalization for purchasing the LP set!).
The single disc of that group live at the Blue Note is quite enjoyable. I picked up the box set a few years ago for a ridiculous price ($10 new, I think?!) and while it’s not perhaps Miles-at-the-Plugged-Nickel worthy, still a somewhat underrated point in the Corea discography. (There’s no overlap between the single disc and the box set, btw.)
Right now:
