  1. Oh man, that was a b-a-a-a-a-a-d game. They shoulda had "Heidi" cued up and ready to go. And is it just me, or is Rivers just not very good? He goes 10-of-22 against the Raiders? He was missing guys all over the field tonight. And it seems like he tends to get way too much arch on his intermediate passes. Then when he misses them, he'll stomp around, pout and show up his receivers. I can't imagine he's Mr. Popular. ... Course, he looked great compared to Russell, who was completely lost. Ill prepared. Bad coaching. Like a lamb to the slaughter, that guy. Geez.
  2. Congrats and good luck!
  3. Gets my vote. Course, I haven't heard the others in the category, but the Bley's a fine set of music.
  4. I can get into electronic sampling if it's done with some degree of restraint, and if it's used as a supporting voice in the music. But over-indulgent, multi-layered, wall-of-sound noise sampling whose sole purpose seems to be to interrupt rather than integrate, will land any CD in the "never-to-be-played-again" file pretty quickly.
  5. I guess this puts to rest the old Woody Allen line: "I've never had a bad orgasm. Even the worst one was right on the money."
  6. Charles Tolliver Mosaic Select Lester Young/Count Basie Sessions 1936 - 1940
  7. Thanks for the heads-up. Good reads.
  8. What the heck are you holding there? Looks like a little pig with a gas mask (my eyesight can play tricks on me, but .... )
  9. I thought that was Amsterdam.
  10. Yeah, that was out of line. Maybe Rob's having a bad day.
  11. I'd chalk it up to a lesson learned on extended warranties, bite the bullet and find a local repair shop that can fix it in a time frame you find acceptable. Heaven forbid you send it away under the warranty and it comes back and still doesn't work right, or starts acting up again a short time later. Before doing this, I would probably check with the store manager to see if he has something he can loan you should you opt for sending it off to be repaired under the warranty. If so, I'd send it off to be repaired, I guess. And on a side note, it's a wonderful thing you're doing for your friend. I know you've spoken about him before. You have my respect, that's for sure.
  12. Thanks King ubu and Lon. I found a used copy of the Embers Birdland you have king ubu for what seems like a reasonable price. It's now on the way along with the Complete Live Savoy.
  13. Any idea what this might be? Available for pre-order ... 1930 - 1933.
  14. Thank you for clearing that up.
  15. Outgoing President Bush stares at his hand while meeting for the first time with leading biochemical engineers in Washington after reports that the White House drinking fountain had been spiked with LSD.
  16. I quickly went through the track listing the other day, and it seems to the same, except for the Sid intros and voice overs. A reviewer over at amazon says an entire date with Navarro and Bud Powell is also "missing," but I can't tell if he's comparing the two compilations I highlighted or is referencing some other compilation. The tracks look the same to me, except for Sid.
  17. Thanks fellas. King ubu, I went with the set you have, mainly because of the Symphony Sid factor. (There's enough faux coolness around my place already without Sid piling on.) plus ... it was less expensive.
  18. I bought it too + the 2 new Mike Reed CDs on 482. First CDs I've purchased in months - since the economic meltdown. We're doing our part!
  19. I'm going to assume nobody has an opinion about the one(s) that had me curious.
  20. Real nice. Wonder who he is?
  21. That's this one, not this one. ... or maybe visa versa. I could do without the 50-odd Symphony Sid tracks.
  22. bump. Considering "Complete Royal Roost Live: Recordings on Savoy" Thoughts?
  23. Don't have anything to add, other than "Welcome!!"
  24. Yes, the more apt question for today's children will be: Did anyone play unorganized sports? Shame.
