  1. Great cover there. The man on the right almost catches Charlie's "serial killer" look! It is. Unfortunately the disc, while listed as being "available," was instead on back order. I've had a bit of a hard time tracking this one down, so I doubt they'd be able to get it anytime soon, if at all. So ... I canceled the order and (with the resulting store credit) ordered this one: Charlie Parker -- "Washington D.C. 1948" (Uptown)
  2. I've also had trouble getting KBCS archives to work. Thanks for the feedback James and BillF... I've forwarded a link to this thread to our PD and Chief Engineer for their info. I'm sure in my case it's mostly a matter of me not being all that familiar with navigating the station's web site. It would be helpful if they'd put a Bright Moments tag in bold lettering at the top of the front page linking directly to a complete archive of the shows though.
  3. Listening to MOPDTK's "Shamokin!!!" prompted me to grab this one, from CD Universe. I like wintersway's description: "It's bop that has a sharp stick to poke at cliches!!" As one might gather from the band's name to the album titles, this is loose, fun, edgy, ragged, a little over-the-top, irreverent <------ like that.
  4. Here's hoping for a full recovery.
  5. Don't worry. It'll turn up as soon as you find a replacement copy.
  6. Thanks. In the end, I viewed it as sort of a cosmic practical joke. Somebody up there is trying to tell me something, maybe. I remain undeterred, however.
  7. Wake up Big Al! You're having a nightmare!
  8. While reordering the above album from another seller, couldn't resist tossing this one in the cart: Dizzy Gillespie -- "Showtime at the Spotlite, 52nd Street, New York City, June 1946"
  9. Well, this is a first. I ordered "Blood, Drum, Spirit Royal Hartigan Ensemble Live In China" about a week ago. It arrived today, but ... ... no discs inside. It was sealed and there was no evidence of tampering at all. Just an empty jewel case. Different cover art, too, but who cares about that. Has anyone had this happen? I emailed the seller (Import CD Specialists) and they replied that amazon policy limits them to issuing a refund upon return of the jewel case. In other words, they won't send me the discs (with or without another jewel case). I guess that makes sense. But I've had a couple of screwed up orders with amazon marketplace sellers before and usually they're so eager to get a good seller rating they'll just refund you the purchase price no questions asked, no need to mail anything back. It's a hassle. And just odd to get an empty jewel case in the mail. I was looking forward to this one, too.
  10. Happy birthday. Time to celebrate!!
  11. I have no doubt, but I'll say good luck anyway! Absolutely. Good luck Dan.
  12. Yes, happy birthday! :g :eye: :w :w
  13. Should we be reprinting AAJ reviews here?
  14. Writing can be jazz. It can also be a Gregorian chant, Led Zeppelin played sdrawkcab or wedding vows. And anyways, once you spell it out, is it really jazz anymore? ... (I'm riffing!) ... (a little). ... (maybe not so much, but you get the idea) ... (not riffing at all, actually) ... (well now I'm just channeling Allen) .... (which might lead to the history of jazz) ... (or at least "A" history of jazz) ... (not really jazz, per se). ... (where are my bongos?) ...
  15. Wishing you a very happy birthday GA!
  16. Very well said.
  17. Very good. That Oct. 27 show was very good.
  18. I've also had trouble getting KBCS archives to work. Have you succeeded? No. Now listening live. (Morning in Seattle, evening in Manchester.) Ah, well it was the "searching" part that snarled me up. I somehow found that page I linked above by simply going to the day's current menu and clicking the "previous" link in the upper left corner until until it took me back to Monday. The Bright Moments show was one of the options in the menu on the left (the very bottom one listed). I just clicked on that and the track listing for Bright Moments came up as it appears on the linked page. Then I clicked the "Listen to this Archived Show" message in red lettering in the upper right, and it played without a hitch. Simple! ....
  19. I've also had trouble getting KBCS archives to work. Have you succeeded?
  20. Yeah, noticed that too.
  21. Now that's funny.
  22. Bright Moments on KBCS 91.3 archived broadcast from Oct. 27. Excellent (now that I've finally figured out how to access the archives).
