After scrolling only so far as about the middle of the alphabetically listed album titles last night (a lot of dreck), I ended up snagging this: Sal Giorgianni -- 'Blue 'n' Boogie' I know zilch about the fella, but he seems to have been around. He plays tenor, here in a trio setting. Music has a bit of an edge to it. Falls into the category of, "It's free, why not?" Enjoyed it.

So is anyone grabbing anything with these credits? I'm just leafing through all the $4.99 and under jazz stuff and there are plenty of good albums there. Going to have to pick one before midnight Pacific. 7,639 to choose from :eye: ... for instance: Lester Bowie -- The 5th Power

Mad As Hell: Airport Security Screening Protests Mount
papsrus replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Story in tomorrow's Times about how the whole thing was basically a non-event. (Their take, not necessarily mine). A news event that fed on itself while air travelers went about their business with little or no regard for the "outrage." Stray TV crews wandering around airports looking for pissed off people and the closest thing they could find was a crying baby. -
Dang, I was close (35) ... well, I'll consider GA's tip about the mp3 freebies at amazon as a second- (or third?) place consolation prize! Congrats Bright Moments!
-
I think amazon has their own little download app. Check this link for further info. If I remember right, you download the download app, then download the song or album. The mp3 file(s) will appear in the amazon mp3 downloader application window. Then just double click on it in download application window and it opens the files (to your desktop, or iTunes, wherever you direct it.)

Thanks GA. I have several wish list items 'no longer available' but available in mp3 format.

The "round-midnight" thread

Just got home from work. Wired. Louis Cottrell on the music box. It'll be a while. -
I have this one but it's failed to capture my imagination. I'll have to give it some more listens. FWIW, it's on this chronological grab-bag of the 100 best jazz recordings (London Telegraph). .. No. 80. EDIT: Happily listening to it again now. Capturing my imagination. Thanks for bringing it up. Although I don't know his playing well, Zoot seems in fine form. Which track was it that caught your attention?

Congratulations Erik. Well done!

Cheers Bill! Happy birthday (belatedly, it seems ... nonetheless).

Nice story. Sounds like a fascinating woman, too. Thanks for posting it.

Baby Grand! Merry Christmas to me!
papsrus replied to slide_advantage_redoux's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I don't know the first thing about baby grands, but this seems like an extremely low price for an instrument like that. Well done! -
Archie Bunker? The character was a cereal offender Smothers Brothers. That was Tom's schtick, wasn't it?

Me watching the old calories and all, if I ever get the urge for a midnight snack, I'll just fire up this thread and meditate a bit on some of those turducken photos. Yeesh. My sister got one of these a few years ago. It did turn out a bit dry. Give me straight up turkey with stuffing. Much better. At a certain point, combining flavors just doesn't work. Particularly if they're somewhat similar flavors. There is a place here in Sarasota that specializes in these things and was featured on some TV show a few years ago -- possibly the one referenced above, although I'm sure this thing has been on more than one food show.

That is the same prediction as GA made. Cold weather. I'm going to go a little bit low. Montreal, total 35 points.

Many of the tracks are covered in the Proper box, but all the hearty recommendations for 'Hollywood Stampede' prompted me to order a copy.

I am so sorry to learn of this. My sincere condolences to you and your family. -
I will. Nice band. AllMusic likes both of those releases, fwiw.

There's no issue with the fidelity of the recordings, to my untrained ears. They sound fine. It's a nice box for what it is -- a generous sampling (over 80 tracks) presented in an orderly, chronological fashion, and accompanied by a very nice booklet. Just to elaborate on the packaging, the individual discs (at least in my copy) come in those cardboard slips, not jewel cases. It doesn't bother me but you just need to be a little careful in handling them.
-
You're probably already aware, but there's a Proper box that focuses on this period, beginning in 1939 with 'Body and Soul.' The packaging's less than ideal. Comes with a nice booklet.
