  1. Doesn't look all that likely @ 75 minutes. ...and it didn't happen. A poor English game. Haven't seen Gerrard - apart from his goal - or Rooney. Why on earth didn't Capello play Rooney in his favourite spot?? He looked lost. England favourites for the title? I don't think so, based on this performance. Yeah. I was just going for a little reverse hex. Feel a little bad for Green. I figure his house is probably on fire by now.
  2. Nah. I think the shooter put a little English on that shot. (swoosh) New rule: goaltenders can't use their hands either -- oh wait, the English already play that way. (Gong!) Seriously, I'm guessing England comes out and scores, what, 2 or 3 goals in the second half?
  3. Prompted by Bev's interest in the listening to thread, two Ornette albums I've wanted to pick up for some time: "Something Else" and "Tomorrow Is The Question." Also, John Casimir's Young Tuxedo Jazz Band.
  4. It's just so odd how this is all shaking out so quickly. You just know there were behind-the-scenes talks going on probably for a year or more before the dominoes started to fall. The moves by Colorado and Nebraska actually make some sense from a geographic standpoint. But the Texas and Oklahoma schools to the Pac 10 makes no sense at all (other than the money they'll get, I suppose). The travel costs alone are going to be tricky for the non-revenue sports, not to mention a headache for the student athletes, and the fans. The rest of the Big 12 schools are likely to follow whatever Texas does, so here's hoping they do the right thing and work to salvage the Big 12, a great conference. If all this does fall apart for the Big 12 though, I can't imagine the SEC won't go after Miami and FSU -- maybe Clemson and Va Tech. So then you end up with basically three super conferences, and then a playoff system might get a lot easier to configure.
  5. I'm listening to the Bunk Johnson now, having just received it in the mail yesterday. Just spilling over with joy, this music. But I've only started to soak up some of this stuff -- thanks to you and Jeff, Allen and others -- a natural outgrowth of listening patterns that seem to steadily peel away at the layers, it's only natural I'd end up here eventually. And it seems the further down I drill, the more joyous the music becomes. In any case, I'd love to read more of Jeff's thoughts/recommendations -- or the thoughts of anyone who is close to the music. Kenny, you must have had a wonderful opportunity to dig into this stuff while you were in New Orleans. I must drag my sorry ass over there some day soon. Perhaps this summer. And Chris, I also only discovered the Living Legends series recently. Picked up Louis Cottrell Trio disc recently and just love it. Wonderful stuff. I'm listening.
  6. Real excited about that Condon Chronological Classics, above. Anyone know it? After reading jeffcrom's New Orleans brass bands thread, inspired to order: Eureka Brass Band -- "New Orleans Funeral and Parade"
  7. OK, final price cuts. Anything left after this I'm just shipping to Allen.
  8. Nice thread Jeff. Will revisit as I'm running out the door.
  9. Eddie Condon -- "1954 - 1955" (chronological classics)
  10. Thanks for posting that. Mulling a trip up to NYC about that time.
  11. List updated with price cuts. Thanks all
  12. If you mean neither one of them had any business winding up in the net, yes.
  13. The Big 12 is about to go the way of the dodo bird, and we're headed for a few (three, basically) mega-conferences. Is that a good thing? Or a bad thing? Will it help usher in a playoff system in college football? (a good thing). Where will Notre Dame end up in this reshuffling? (On a related note, I can't say I'm too broken up about the USC sanctions about to come down. Hope Lane Kiffin is enjoying himself now.) EDIT: I tried include a poll with this but it didn't seem to take. Oh well.
  14. PM sent on the following: Fats Waller The Best Of Fats Waller - RCA Original Masters (3 CD), Sony/BMG, $12 Thanks
  15. Anyone notice the similarity between Kane's Cup-winning OT goal and Crosby's gold-winning OT goal?

  17. It's not. Jewel case. No problem Peter. I've got addresses for all but four people. I'll be getting stuff in the mail tomorrow for those whose addresses I have by tonight. Thanks!

  19. OK, a couple of clean feeds are back in the mix. Still need some mailing addresses.
  20. Geez. I had this completely ass-backwards. I thought we were supposed to sell stuff by artists we didn't really enjoy, not buy more. I need to get back over to the Offering-Looking For forum, pronto!
  21. I think I've sorted out who got what and responded to all PMs. Somebody just bought most of the bargain bin, so I'm about to go through that now and mark discs SOLD Thanks
  22. The Fat Lady Has Sung. Thanks!
  23. Done. Thanks for providing this always thought-provoking place. It's been ear-opening, to say the least. James
