What ... you guys aren't watching it either? I have to admit, I can only stomach so much figure skating and cross country skiing. -
Winter Olympics 2010 Vancouver

Apparently ESPN is only vaguely aware that the Winter Olympic Games are happening. I realize it's on "another network," but still, aren't they supposed to cover ... you know ... sports? Judging by the coverage that I've seen on espn, the NBA All-Star game (aka, watching paint dry) is a waaaaaay bigger event. Huge. Enormous. Even the celebrity game and lap-dancing ... errr ... All-Star game halftime show is apparently worth infinitely more commentary on espn than the Olympics. ... Curious. -

Spectacular garden MG. And the Nessas seem to have it figured out. Dan may be right about trying to get an edible yard going in Florida. Citrus trees are easy enough, of course, but you can only eat so many oranges or grapefruits. We had two large avocado trees when I was married (ex got the house and the trees) and it was like bombs dropping on the roof when those things began to fall. They don't ripen on the tree, so they're quite hard when they drop. I love 'em, sliced in half, little bit of oil and vinegar, salt and pepper ... yum. But those trees produced hundreds and hundreds of them. Plus, avocados are kind of the cheeseburger of the veggie world, so ...

Thanks MG.

Well, I'd humbly suggest that those who don't yet have it might want to remedy that asap.

OK, realizing that the above post is over 6 years old, still that's a hell of an accomplishment. How did you do it?! ... (I know, I know -- stop eating).

Heard the title track on Sirius today myself. Very cool. I'm sure there are many, but this has to be a high point for Chuck and the Nessa label.

At the point where a disease is incurable, the patient will sometimes choose to fight it knowing full-well they won't be cured, but rather with the goal of prolonging life and, hopefully, enhancing the quality of life in some way. Or, with some greater goal in mind. I've seen this dozens of times, and it never fails to move me. He fought.

My neighbor has a son who I think must play all of these games. He just came by, drunk, at 11:30 in the morning, a ciggy tucked behind each ear, asking me for $5 so he could get some more beer. ... Couple of months ago he knocked on my door at 3 a.m., drunk, wanting $40 so he could get a hotel room for the night. ... What the fuck did I do to deserve this? Drinking games suck. So do drunks. I'm calling ADT.

pffft. That's nothing. Idiot me put a pillow with a small tear in it in the washing machine once. Then, despite little bits left behind in the washer, put it in the dryer. ... With other stuff. That's when the real fun began. -

Great game! 1. On the coaching thing -- Sean Payton is a lot more hands-on during the game than Caldwell, calling the offensive plays, for instance, while Caldwell relies on his offensive coordinator to do that, etc. But regardless, the coaching for the Saints was superior in terms of both game planning and play calling. The onside kick to open the second half was brilliant, especially given that the Colts only had the ball for a little over 2 minutes in the second quarter and had to be chomping at the bit. Demoralizing for them. 2. Brees put on a clinic. As Steve Young said after the game, Brees was throwing his receivers open and putting the ball exactly where it needed to be to allow them to make additional yardage after the catch. And they were making a lot of additional yardage after the catch. Manning made some incredible throws also, particularly that one to No. 44 where the guy was surrounded by about five Saints defenders and Manning dropped it in to his hands on a deep route to the sideline. Incredible! But Brees was like a surgeon out there. 3. Colts receivers really underperformed, particularly Reggie Wayne. There were some key drops that had nothing to do with Manning, I don't think. If they had made those catches, maybe a different game. 4. The underdog finally won one in these playoffs, and it came at the very end. Amazing. (Yeah, the Jets were dogs in both their wins, but that was it, I think. And they weren't really dogs. Just ask Rex Ryan).

"PARALYZING" Snow Storm for the Mid-Atlantic States
papsrus replied to Chalupa's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Haven't watched him enough to comment on his defensive play, but he does lead the league in plus/minus rating with a +38 (at this writing). Opposing teams probably throw a low-scoring, checking line out there against him a lot of times, so that might be inflating his plus/minus number a bit. Dunno. But in a way, the threat he poses offensively IS his best defense. (as the old saying goes ...). The opposition has to account for him at all times, and having him play up high in his defensive zone might force them to back off a bit when they're attacking. Anyways, hope all you folks who are snowed in find a way to try to enjoy it. Fire up some hot toddies.
