  1. ... Glad something semi-useful has come of this.
  2. Man, my Walmart thread's a dud. ... To hyperlink an emoticon, just treat it as you would a word or a picture that you want to use as a hyperlink. Define it and click the little chain-linky thing.
  3. I bet it ends with Pam waking up from a bad dream to find Bobby Ewing in the shower.
  4. I almost got locked inside a thread once. Got out just in time. Close one.
  5. Every once in a while I begin to suspect that illegal terroists immigrants have spiked the water supply with pornography acid. ... Seriously.
  6. If anybody ever figures out what the hell this show was about, please post a 10,000 word synopsis here. Thanks.
  7. Post-game analysts kept touching on the fact that Montreal played a great 'team' game. They played as a unit. And they played within a pretty effective defensive scheme. It wasn't 'just' the goaltender, as evidenced by the number of blocked shots, tipped shots, forced turnovers, and the ability of the Habs to generally disrupt the Caps' offense while patiently waiting for opportunities to counter attack. The Caps did not play a great team game -- offensively or defensively. And this is, IMO, the difference between guys like Ovechkin and guys like Datsyuk and Crosby. Ovechkin is a one-man wrecking ball. Highly skilled and exciting to watch, but he does not play within a disciplined system. And because of this, Datsyuk and Crosby are more effective all-around players than Ovechkin. Face it, the guy ends up literally standing around watching everyone else when Plan A falls apart. That points to coaching.
  8. heh hem .... Ah, I think it's becoming clear what the 'O' in Ovechkin stands for. He was a non-factor in the clutch. And a guy who seems a bit lost when the offense is struggling. A front-runner, in other words. Historic choke by the Caps.
  9. Thanks for sharing those. Love the close-up shots of some of the instruments. Sounds as though you had a wonderful time.
  10. Just received an amazon e-mail promoting 'Really the Blues?'
  11. I was having some trouble with my apple notebook. Touch pad would, after about an hour, stop responding or take on a mind of it's own. Took it in today to my local apple service shop and it turns out the battery, which sits beneath the touch pad, was swollen, putting pressure on the touch pad. New battery, problem solved. The service guy couldn't really explain why they swell (dirt, effect of heat over time, etc.), but swell they do. Anyone else run into this?
  12. Time to drop that bone, dog. Legitimate corrections, fine. They should be (and are being) pointed out. Endlessly needling Allen over preferences on how to list track credits, or the inevitable typos that will slip through in a project of this magnitude, or a single duplicate track among the mountain that he's presented here, uncalled for, IMO. It's a fucking glorious set, obviously a labor of love, and a job well done.
  13. Tons of brilliant stuff here Allen. Most of which I certainly had not listened to before. I love the variation, the shifting terrain, in the way it is all presented, too. On disc 8, for example, the listener goes from the absolutely otherworldly 'Old Time Baptism PT 2' (RM Massey) to Frances Hereford & Jelly Roll Morton's incredible 'Midnight Mama' in the space of three tracks! And upon listening to the opening track on disc 8, 'Every Day of the Week Blues' (Pink Anderson, Simmie Dooley), I immediately thought, "Well, I now know where Dylan came from."
  14. Yeah, the pitcher over-reacted, but there are all kinds of unwritten rules in baseball. What A-Rod did was definitely not cool. Either he was unaware of what he was doing, or he did it deliberately. Not sure which would be worse. It's not so much disrespect for that particular pitcher, but disrespect for the way you play the game. And like I said, it's happened before with this cat. ... Just sayin'. But OK, let's move on. Scuse me while I trot across the mound on my way out.
  15. The next A's batter headed back to the dugout from whatever base should simply have trotted over the mound while a Yankees pitcher was on it. What could they say?
  16. A-Rod trotting across the pitcher's mound. Big deal, or not? (wish I could figure out how to embed media) A-Rod, I guess, is claiming he never heard of the unwritten rule that opposing players don't step on the pitcher's mound. He probably did it on purpose to shake up the pitcher, not unlike when he called "I got it" on a pop fly while running the bases in that Blue Jays game.
  17. Wow. They have a Gay Music category. Who knew? Seems to be only one band though -- the, ah, Flirtations. ... Yup.
  18. Just watched the Robert Crumb documentary. Kind of like holding a magnifying glass up to a piece of dog shit for an hour or so, but otherwise enjoyable interesting. Was kind of hoping he'd spend the entire film playing his record collection.
  19. Don't know what to say about the Rays' sweep of the BoSox. The Rays played solid, aggressive. Starters went pretty deep in all four games, which is a good sign. But the Sox were awful in the last two games of that series, although playing a little shorthanded in the outfield -- and it showed. Couldn't hit, couldn't field, couldn't throw out any base runners at all, and the pitching was more than a little shaky. (When Burrell starts banging it around, you know something's up). I like the way the Rays are coming out of the gate so far, but that sweep feels like it has more to do with the wheels coming off in Boston than anything else. Dan?
  20. Disc 7 now. The two tracks Nos. 11 & 12, "Mississippi Jailhouse Groan" (Rube Lacy) and "Sawmill Moan" (Rambling Thomas) are described in the notes as having a "free-floating quality." Relatively simple guitar accompaniment but with absolutely astonishing singing that seems on both tracks to literally reach back in time and transport the listener there (at least this listener). Another gem here: "I Must Have That Man" (Annette Hanshaw). The tune (or the chorus, at least) seems very similar to "A Good Man to Have Around" as performed by Libby Holman. Beautiful. Having a blast exploring this. Don't know how you feel Allen about how this stacks up against "That Devilin' Tune." Each stands on it's own, certainly. But maybe because I'm much less familiar with the music here, or maybe because it's reaching back to something much more basic and essential, this music is really resonating with me. ... Thank you.
  21. A cornucopia! Checking out Weenie Juke Radio now. Great stuff! Thanks.
  22. That weeniecampbell is a wonderful site. Thanks for linking. Just spent the last half hour or so listening to Craig Ventresco YouTube clips.
  23. Congratulations. Outlaws is wonderful.
