  1. Hope some folks with more knowledge than I will share their thoughts on this when they've had a chance to digest it a bit. I've been particularly taken with the string bands. The ukulele playing on 'Meddlin' with the Blues' (disc 3) is phenomenal. Had to listen to it three straight times to catch everything he was doing. Amazing. disc 4 now (which comes out of the gates with a mighty roar).
  2. This gives tantric sex a bad name.
  3. Part of the jet-set now.
  4. Just want to add that the track-by-track notes are wonderful. Pondering if 'Down Home Rag' was "free jazz before there was even jazz" is an apt way to characterize the performance of that tune.
  5. Arrived today Allen. Thanks for the quick shipping! Disc 1 now. Putting the booklet, discog., etc. on CD-ROM is a great idea.
  6. That'll teach her to keep you waiting.
  7. Allen Lowe -- "Really the Blues? Blues History 1893-59. Volume 1 Wilton Crawley -- "Showman Composer & Clarinetist" (jazz oracle) Ted Lewis -- "1929 - 1933" (challenge)
  8. Can't wait to dig into this Allen. For those interested, here's the front and back artwork:
  9. It also might have a little something to do with the fact that he is probably the highest-profile athlete on the planet.
  10. 'Minister' is probably not an example you want to use. No. I think that is exactly the example I want to use. You are are all more than willing to trash Tiger Woods because he cheated on his wife. What I am saying is he is a professional golfer, not the perfect husband or perfect man. Hence, not the next in line to the Pope. Unless you have some issue with his race, it seems to me that you are overstating your disgust in favor of reality. His affairs are a personal matter, not a PGA matter. Tiger Woods isn't a perfect person, but he deserves nothing like the personal intrusion he has edured via the tabloid inspired lynch mob media. I further submit, that if Tiger was White you guys wouldn't even be spending time on his daliances. Tell me I'm wrong. It was a joke. The ministry doesn't have the greatest reputation on the sex scandal circuit right now, that's all. Nor does the Pope, for that matter. But that's neither here nor there.

  12. Yeah I buy that. I think you're probably right that it's due to strategy and TV commercials. West didn't do himself any favors by criticizing how the game was being played, as long as it's within the rules.
  13. Yeah that was tough. Francisco didn't have much at all. Tough way to go down. Watching Joe West's comments now on espn on the slow pace of Yankees-Red Sox games. Yikes. Initial player reaction was along the lines of, "What do you want us to do, swing at balls?" But I'm not sure I buy that response. Do they really throw more balls in Yankee-Red Sox games than the average? I doubt it. There has to be a reason beyond balls and strikes that those games often seem to take longer. Having said that, it doesn't really bother me. Baseball games find their own pace. Now if it was Nationals-Pirates games that were going on 4 hours, that'd be a different story.
  14. The fact that he is using his late father in a plea for sympathy in order to try to rehabilitate his image for commercial gain is a just a bit creepy. If this was a public service ad of some kind, then maybe it might work. But it's a Nike ad, so it doesn't. On the other hand, this is probably one of a series of ads they will roll out over the summer, culminating in an ad with footage of Tiger and his mom in a tearful embrace, maybe his children running up to surround them, rose pedals falling from the sky -- and if Nike can swing it, Elin running across an open field and back into the arms of Tiger. For ever and ever. Amen. Cha-ching.
  15. Googled it and no sign of a House of Blues near Fenway. Just thought I saw a sign for it real quick out of the corner of my eye earlier. Swing and a miss for me, I guess. Garza looked good tonight. Fastball, slider. Four hits over 8 innings. Nine K's. But, you know, Baltimore.
  16. In tonight's rare broadcast of a Yankees-Red Sox game on ESPN, as the camera panned around outside Fenway prior to the game, I thought I saw a sign for 'House of Blues.' Is that correct? Is there a blues bar across the street from the park? Cool.
  17. Yes indeed. That and 'Wonderland' are the extent of my Ellis collection. Slick band on 'Wonderland,' as I'm sure you know. Listening now.
  18. The Uncollected Jimmy Dorsey & His Orchestra, Vol. 1 (1939-1940)

  20. I thought it was a third or fourth.
  21. Happy birthday and many more my friend. (Can't go wrong with a little cake today ... or a big cake!)
  22. President Of The United States. Hey Paps, we are still here. It is nice, isn't it? BruceW Hi Bruce ... It is. It's a beautiful Easter Sunday today and I went to church this morning (late service). I don't normally go, but wanted to today. Almost kind of an anthropological expedition. There were a couple of trumpet players and an organist (of course) up front doing their thing at the beginning. Very nice. Great acoustics. Then lots of Gregorian chanting with audience participation, followed by a generally cheerful message from the head guy (not THE head guy). Might check out a Baptist church next. I hear they really get it going.
  23. President Of The United States.
