I'll bet there was some mighty fast dancing going on at that concert! -

Reading the topic title again, shouldn't this be in the religion forum? -
I say, take the money if any one person in the cab doesn't want to risk it. And if it's under $1,000. Anything over that amount, yeah ... TAKE THE MONEY! YMMV ...

Exactly. I do think it's a great show for the whole family. You get to play along and people-watch all at the same time. Ben Bailey is a riot.

I hate to say anything bad about Mosaic but I don't like the "new" look of the catalogue and it's full of typos that make some sentences difficult to understand. They may be suffering from the credit crunch. Having orders you can't fulfill suggests their bank won't extent any credit. Their catalogs are in need of some editing. It's not as though there's a ton of copy to sift through. It should be fairly easy to clean up.

Just started watching it on the Discovery Channel. Pretty entertaining. Laugh-out-loud funny at times. I think they tailor the questions to the passengers. Premise: unsuspecting passengers get in a NYC cab and answer a series of general interest questions until they reach their destination, earning cash for each correct answer. Three wrong answers and you get kicked to the curb on the spot. Fun for the whole family!

Can Jazz Be Saved?
papsrus replied to mjzee's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Can dancing be saved? A central point of contention here is not the music at all, but the appropriate audience reaction to it. As a performer, would it offend anyone here if people got up and started shuffling around and enjoying themselves during your performance? Your solo? (gasp!) If so, there's your answer. I would love to see some spontaneous hootin' and hollerin' break out at the Lincoln Center. The purists would implode. The ushers would start scurrying around with their flashlights. The house lights would go up. The band would stop playing. .... WTF is this? Sit down you philistines! I'm shuffling around right now. To jazz. Feels good. -
I voted for "exchange ideas about music," but not sure that captures it. I find the non-music stuff just as ... interesting. Baseball, politics, buying-selling, polls on why I come here, that sort of thing. So maybe "exchange ideas about a relatively broad range of subjects -- some serious, some silly -- with people who have a similar taste in music as I do," might be more apt.

Dancing is good. The formalizing of jazz performance is appropriate for some musics. But if you want folks to have a good time, dancing is always good. Loud, boisterous partying. Lots of bodies rumbling together. Glasses clinking. Toasts all around! That's what's popular. And I think that's what jazz was, at one time. Now, it's all too often the Lincoln Center, no cell phones, shut-up and listen. Ssshhhhhhh. Oh yeah, and that'll cost you $60. Thank you and be seated. -
You've had some issues there? I hadn't noticed, sound-wise. The packaging is sometimes not the best, with those fold-open, cardboard things. But ... Hey! Move along now. No bad-mouthing the merchandise!

Got most of them -- the Gonzalez, Empty Cage and the Robertson discs -- new, but anything is possible.

done. I initially had more boldfaced, but thought I might be getting carried away.

Should point out for anyone who might be curious about the Clusone 3 discs that the Available Jelly title and, of course, the Michael Moore Quintet CD, are also led by Michael Moore, who leads the Clusone 3, but in a quintet setting rather than trio. (Eric Vloeimans, trumpet; Michael Moore, alto sax, clarinet, bass clarinet; Marc van Roon, piano; Paul Berner, bass; Owen Hart Jr., drums). Send me a PM when you get a chance. Thanks.

Fun, and fairly easy quiz on what we see everyday

16 ... a series of telephone pad questions confounded me. They just kept coming. It was like some IQ test nightmare from Miss Cathabash's third-grade class. I plead caffeine-deprived myopia. -
Jazz CD sales down by 80% since 2001!
papsrus replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Made it by Vinyl Fever in Tampa yesterday with 5 minutes to spare before closing. The jazz CD selection was OK, about a third the rack space of that over at Sound Exchange. Total floor space was probably about a third of Sound Exchange as well. Obviously I didn't have time to check out the vinyl, but from a glance, I'd say Sound Exchange probably has a larger collection. Based on all that, it may be worth your time Dan to check out SE the next time you're up that way. Managed to snag a used copy of Dexter Gordon's "One Flight Up" (not an rvg), which I'm enjoying now. All in all, both places were worth the visit, but not much hidden gold that I could see. (keep in mind, I had very little time at either location.) I'd give 'em both 3 out of 5 stars, with Sound Exchange getting a slight edge simply for having a larger volume of stuff. -
I think the whole thing will eventually be traced to MG trying to log on again.

I received some paperwork and a questionnaire in the mail today regarding my upcoming jury duty. All I will say is that it is a very high-profile case and, therefore, while I'm confident I could be an impartial juror, I doubt I will be selected, judging from the questionnaire. I'll find out Aug. 18th. (no newspapers or laptops allowed in the jury room).

A few bumps here, too. Some kind of database error.
