Bah! Was pulling for Ohio State tonight. Poor old Big Ten has been taking it on the chin lately. Thought they had it until SC marched down the field at the end there. Okla. State? wtf? Michigan-Notre Dame -- eh

Celebration on the Grand
papsrus replied to Lazaro Vega's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
And I was there. Hope you finally get to come back again. Yes! Get yer groovin' selves back down here! -
But if part of the attraction of these sets in the first place is that they are limited editions, I would think that Mosaic would, and should, do everything they can to ensure that they remain so. Otherwise they'll have to change their sales pitch to, kind of limited.

Yeah. What's up with that? Yep. But it's just a blog and he's just kind of riffing on Mobley, so that's cool, I guess. Nothing earth-shattering either way. He also takes a swing at everyone's pal, Gorlick, covering well-worn terrain in an earlier post.

Sorry to hear Mosaic is the victim of some ham-handed move here. A small silver lining for them may be that this unfortunate event seems to have sparked quite a buying frenzy.

Sounds wonderful (aside from the hallucinations). Really, really looking forward to this one.

Great shot. Yes. Thanks for that. I'm once again loving reading about the festival in this thread. Maybe next year for me.

I think the Pats would rather trade a player with some years left than hold on to them until they decline. The pick the Pats got from the Raiders may turn out to be a good one, as long as the Raiders continue to stink for two more seasons. Good point - they sure picked a good trading partner. Seymour is getting older, and probably doesn't have much left in the tank - Conn probably knows better than I do about that. But getting a first-rounder out of the Raiders is gold. Yep. And the Pats are good at plugging new players into their system when established ones move on. It's probably not the loss for them that it would be for most other teams. They don't seem to miss a beat when they cut loose high profile players.

I have NO idea why they made all those substitutions and ran all that time off the clock- very poor clock management. Which points back to Bowden, I'm afraid. Great game.

Went to the beach with some friends Sunday. Packed. Lots of brightly colored umbrellas and tents. Spent a little time on a sandbar off the beach soaking in the scene, floating in the surf. Did some kite flying with the kids. Capped off the day at the beach listening to a sunset drum ceremony (very primal, a tradition here) and, after getting back from the beach, sushi and a game of scrabble. Spent the early part of today just splashing around the pool at a nearby hotel where friends were staying and noshing on finger food. Going to just relax and listen to music tonight, maybe keep an eye on the Noles-Canes to see if a football game breaks out. (Dan, you're a sly one!)

Couple of discs from the Oldies.com sale: Bud Powell -- "Paris Sessions" Johnny Hodges -- "At Sportpalast, Berlin"

ESPN had him rated as the #2 RB for the next draft(Of course a million things could happen between now and then), so that punch may have coat him a mil or two. What a stupid thing to do! That said, I was figuring a game or two suspension, not a whole season. Yes. Miami and FIU and I don't think anyone was suspended for the remainder of the season. I think one guy was suspended indefinitely (don't recall if he was reinstated) but everyone else got a single game. And it was way worse, IMO -- kicking, body slams, fists of fury, an all out brawl.

Yes, it is a three-fer. Looking forward to that one.

Liked Bama a lot. They look tough, yes? Ohio State struggling a bit vs. Navy is not a good sign for next week (USC). Cal is looking solid against Maryland tonight. Oklahoma is in deep doo-doo without Bradford. Florida had its predictable opening-day practice. Ditto, USC (I guess. Only saw the score). Nice win by Oklahoma State over Georgia. Gonna go home and try and find the LSU-Washington game on the tube or the internets.

Sonny Criss -- "The Complete Imperial Sessions" Thelonious Monk -- "Live at the It Club" Don Byas -- "A Night in Tunisia" Horace Tapscott -- "Dark Tree" The last one's a remastered Hat release I hadn't been aware of until yesterday. Was available for "pre-order" from Jazzloft (through amazon) for a fraction of the price it would cost to acquire vols. 1&2 today, used. Keeping my fingers crossed.

The "round-midnight" thread

Why can I only find this thread at noon? (miscellaneous, non-political; miscellaneous, non-political; miscellaneous, non-political ... got it.) -

Oh yeah. There's really a different vibe to listening to music very late at night. The sound in the night and all that. Everything seems just a little sharper. Have Adderley's "Somethin' Else" on now. Beautiful. -
It would be nice to have some sort of communication from Mosaic giving a rough idea about when these boxes will be available again. Benedetti is at the top of my list.

Just got home from work, walked the dog, settled in and put on Mingus' Blues and Roots. Sounds mighty fine for that slightly disheveled state I'm often in after a shift at the old salt mine. -
Can Jazz Be Saved?
papsrus replied to mjzee's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Try "dance" band ("with a jazzy sensibility" in the fine print). -
I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I enjoy watching Favre play. Judging from the preseason game in Houston, he looks just fine. He didn't have much in the way of a deep ball, but that'll come. Also think Harvin could add a lot to that team this season (once he masters the art of catching the ball on the deep corner route). I'm liking the Vikes this year. And the big screens in Dallas are ridiculous. I can't believe they won't be more than a little distracting for the fans, and the players.

Some threads should be required reading. This one qualifies. Lots of great insights here. Thanks all.

Just noticed a single used copy of "Complete American Small Group Recordings" (definitive) pop up at amazon for a cool $149.99.
