Digression thread: Coherence is overrated

"I can read women." "If I'm not back in an hour, sublet my apartment." Woody: "What are you doing Saturday night?" Woman in museum: "Committing suicide." Woody: "How about Friday night?" "You have the most eyes I've ever seen." Where's the film thread? -
How 'bout this: the Rays went 1 for 25 with runners in scoring position against the Rangers and still won the series (although got shut out today).

Laughed my keester off at this story this morning

Life Coaching Similar to "team building" in that both focus on behavior modification, with roots in biz-speak. Put more simply, "bullshit". Ah, well, maybe it's a good fit after all. -
This one, yes? (slightly different title -- "Paris Sessions").

OK, I have a simple question: Is the "Live at the Monterey Jazz Festival" 2-CD set available anywhere for a more reasonable price than amazon? Or is that a reasonable price ($70) for a used copy. OOP and looks fine. But ... not having heard it, of course, thought someone here might know the score. thanks.

There's a certification program for being a "life coach"? For those who don't recognize the name, this was the NYT reporter who got canned a few years ago for plagiarizing nearly everything he ever wrote for the Times. Yeah, no kidding. I'm all for second chances and everything, but "life coach?" First of all, wtf is it? Second of all, I would assume you might need some successful "life skills" of your own before you start coaching 'em up at the old mental heath clinic. -
Happy Birthday hammondcheese!

Eat some cake, ham! Happy birthday ... -
You lucky guy! The Prestige stuff is a real highlight of Monk's career, and since he was on the label for such a relatively short time the material can be taken in almost all at once, in a white heat of enthusiasm and discovery. And it sounds like you're going for it! Yes. Arrived earlier today and I've been listening to the first two discs. Wonderful.

Any board members were at the orignal Woodstock?

In the film it's his opening, then he goes into Purple Haze. (I think) -
I feel like the whole world's in front of me Isn't duplication an issue with some of you guys?

I've been snagging some Garland titles lately and fwiw, I'd go with Soul Junction before Weather, which is nice, but Soul is just more dynamic, with Trane and Byrd. For trios, I preferred Red Garland's Piano and Red in Bluesville over All Kinds of Weather, but YMMV. Don't know Prelude, but will check it out.

Do I remember it correctly, that Favre has a less-than stellar record at the Humpty Dumpty Dome, or whatever they're calling it now?

If any of you ornithologists are interested, since I now have the complete birdland box on ember, I have this 2-disc ember set titled "At Birdland, Vol. 1," if anyone wants it. Trade, buy, whatever. It is NOT the 4-disc complete birdland ember box, similarly titled Volume One. I have it listed in the 'offering, looking for' threads for $18, but I'd take any reasonable offer, including trade, since it's duplicate material to me. (used copies at amazon start at $49, fwiw.) It includes the February 14, 1950 and May 15/16, 1950 Birdland dates.

Continuing my recent journey into Monk's music: Thelonious Monk -- "Complete Prestige Recordings" (Haven't received the Lands or Byrds yet. Maybe today. The Monk stuff is all wonderful. And yes, "Monk's Music" is genius -- raw, crazy, beautiful, jarring.)

I'm in. Sounds like a fun one. Download is fine. Thanks.

Happy Birthday Soul Stream.

This seems like a self-defeating argument. To use your words: Why do you pretend that the very same evidence you blast Ortiz with isn't the same reason we can assume Bonds was on steroids? Now granted, the evidence against each seems to be quite different, in both scale and possibly substance, but you don't make that distinction in your question. It's late. Just asking.

Well, I'm a few years late to the party ... Monk's music is magical. ... Not sure why I gave it all such limited attention prior. Something to do with my bass-ackward ways, I figure.

I am looking forward to the Monk, one of several I've ordered recently (including The Five Spot quartet dates with Griffin, and a few of his better-known Columbia recordings). The personnel on "Monk's Music" looks unreal. And so ... I have sadly overlooked a lot of Monk until recently, other than his "Genius of Modern Music" discs, "Brilliant Corners" and the Carnegie Hall with Coltrane release. I don't know why I hadn't delved more deeply, because I enjoy each one of those. I realized the other day I had just one Byrd-led date (not counting the Jazz Lab discs with Gryce) -- "Byrd's Eye View," which I was digging a great deal, so had to scratch a little bit more into that man's catalog. Been listening to Land and Garland a fair bit lately also, and have had my eye on those titles for a bit. Anyways, thanks for your comments. I'm looking forward them all.
