  1. Same old versions, just more sun tans and shorts. And dinner at 4 ... p.m.
  2. It doesn't look all that bad for Texas. I don't see any team running away with the wild card spot, Boston & Tampa Bay cannot seem to break off a big winning streak, so -- you never know. It would be nice to see someone other than Boston or Tampa Bay get that spot, heck, Seattle is only 6.5 games out of the wc spot. Re: Boston. If they don't at least split the Yankee series, their season is in serious trouble. Tampa's got three at Seattle and three at the Angels coming up. And six games left with Texas, including a three-game series at Texas in late September.
  3. Here's another chance! The player on the right has samples.
  4. Have a great birthday!
  5. Tough start for Boston, losing in the 13th when Longoria jacks one out for the win. This might be a very difficult week for the Red Sox Nation. That was one wacky game. Nice pitching duel for the first six-seven innings, then BoSox rip through their entire pen, including two innings from Papelbon. Rays empty their bench and leave all kinds of runners on base, including bags loaded with nobody out. Opportunity after opportunity. Then that weird, wild throw into the Rays bullpen with a runner halfway home and another on the way, but the umps (correctly) call a dead ball when the ball lodges in an equipment bag, forcing the base runners back to the pads, where they're stranded. The Rays announcers were going bonkers on that one, with the rule books flying and visits to the booth from some umpire supervisor guy. Then they give Longoria something to hit in the 13th?
  6. Man, that is nice. :tup :tup
  7. I'd love to know what she's up to. Kind of slipped off my radar the past year or so. A little something from July 29, 2009...Matana Roberts Actually, this link is quicker:Matana Roberts Thanks. I guess I meant, what she's been up to performance/recording-wise. Interesting post though. Appreciate it. I seem to recall her web site lay dormant for long stretches. Can't blame her for that. But I'll check it out.
  8. I'd love to know what she's up to. Kind of slipped off my radar the past year or so.
  9. Happy birthday Lon! You've got a lot of candles on that cake now. I'm right there with you though. Fifty (or 54) is the new 30, or so they say. ...
  10. I kind of started it, I guess. Meant it to be lighthearted, not an opportunity to take pot shots. A thousand pardons. Agree or disagree, I enjoy Dan's posts. The man knows his baseball.
  11. I think a combination of too informed/inside dope probably. From what I've read, anyone who brings any insight or knowledge of the issues in contention would make it past the selection process. You mean "wouldn't," yes? ... It would be interesting to know what one of those jury consultants thinks about the "ideal" juror.
  12. One of those instances where it's best not to turn the other cheek.
  13. Oddly enough I was also considering the Ellington. Go for 'em both! Or at least plan on getting both. They're ones that get played rather than just looking sharp on the shelves. I agree. They're both keepers.
  14. Rays had Bartlett hitting leadoff today and Aybar replacing Burrell as the DH. Worked beautifully against Greinke. Kapler played instead of Upton and hit ninth. Would like to see Upton moved down in the order -- maybe seventh, behind Aybar. I like Bartlett leading off way more than Upton. He's a much more disciplined hitter and seems to make fewer mistakes running the bases. Maddon said he was going to give it some thought in the post-game, but he had that Cheshire cat grin that you knew he liked what he saw today.
  15. Just got a summons for jury duty Aug. 18th in the mail today. I doubt they'll select me because I work for the local newspaper, even though it's in the sports department. I've never really understood the rationale for rejecting media people. Too informed? Biased? Got the inside dope? What's the beef?
  16. Maybe it's the post-comeback, late era? Or the, "Am I late for the post-comeback era?" Or simply ... "Err, ahh, I'm late. I'll come back."
  17. Words fail you? :rfr
  18. Couple more ordered this afternoon: Monk -- "Thelonious In Action" (just picked up the companion to this last week, "Misterioso") Elmo Hope -- "The All Star Sessions"
