I didn't. The last time I was in Vegas (2002 maybe?) there was a club out there called the Blue Note, that had pretty big name acts like McCoy Tyner, but the tixs were pricey and so was the food! This time I saw nothing (maybe I was looking in the wrong places) and the Blue Note appears to be gone. And if saw that Ronnie Foster was playing there, hell yeah I would've gone

What stakes did you play at? Guy I didn't play at the WSOP (that is, at none of the 32 events they host) I was just a 'spectator'. The only event I watched was the 'Main Event.' I did sit at a Blackjack table at the Hard Rock with some dude that recently won a bracelet in 7 card stud though. He was German, and I can't think of his name. Over time, ESPN eventually airs all or most of the events, so I'm going to keep an eye out for it.

The Playboy Hotel? I saw the Playboy bunny on the side of the hotel on the way to the Rio, but no, I didn't go. I think they're still building, but I may be wron about that.

Not sure I understand the logic unless you place a high premium on RVG's remastering. New Soil is widely available, Tippin' the Scales is not. Guy I think over time, at least to my ears, the RVG's have drastically improved. And yes, New Soil is widely available, but in terrible sound. Tippin' is nice enough, but I guess I'd rather hear New Soil in improved sound. Just my opinion.

Well I'm back, and I should've come home richer, but luck turned on our second to the last day. Did go to the WSOP Main Event yesterday and I got to meet TJ Cloutier and Todd Brunson while waiting in the spectator line. Got TJ's autograph to boot . Inside, I watched Chris Moneymaker at the feature table for a while and TJ at another. Also saw Chris Ferguson, Steve Dannemann, Robert Varkonyi, and Rene Angelil. Pretty cool!

Ok, So me and the wife and a bunch of friends are going to Vegas for a good ol' time!!! I'll talk to ya guys next week! bYE yA! HG

Probably marrying my wife (10 years in November!!!) and the birth of my second child (because I was in total shock during the first birth!). When I finish my Ph.D. (in two years), that will be up there too!

Great list, except a few, not because they're bad sessions, but because they're good enough sessions to see the light of day at least once, but not great enough to be reissued again (for e.g. Oblique was a great session that deserved to be reissued) or the masters are gone. 1. Tippin the Scales. As much as I love J. Mac., Tippin' is not that terrific. Now having said that, I'm glad I have it, but it's not worth reissuing. Now having said that, New Soil NEEDS to be RVG'd. And also FWIW, I LOVE the Japanese album cover of Tippin' The Scales! 2. Swing Swang Swingin, is also nice but I don't think its necessary to reissue this one either. There's way too other important J. Mac titles to put out like One Step Beyond or 'Bout Soul for that matter. 3. Now, from what I understand, the Jody Grind is not going to get much better, since the master tapes are gone. However, Sweet Honey Bee, seems to have improved from the RVG treatment. 4. Now lastly, you probably won't either see the Blakey/Moody New Sounds either, because its a pretty enoymous session, yet it is still a satisfying set as well (a set I also own but don't reach for often) so don't hold your breath essentially. In fact, don't hold your breath for any 10 inchers because they did not really sell well (a shame because like the WCC's, the 10 inchers were excellent, but they did not generate enough popular interest to get us another reissue). Of course, if this is a wrong assertion, feel free to correct me P.S. Would love to hear High Frequency

Amen to that. Monk WAS Monk and no one could take that from him. Just watch Straight No Chaser and I think you will get the point with the Columbia footage (just watch how Teo interacts with Monk). Monk was one of kind from beginning to end and I enjoy every second of it! No matter what criticisms one may have of Monk's later career, he was was still way ahead of the game. A complete genius from beginning to end, in my opinion!

I also want to second those solo recordings (the 2CD 62-8). Those ARE amazing.

The fact (for us younger ones) that you saw him AT ALL is amazing!

Wow. Interesting. Man, I guess there's two things I enjoy about the Columbia's. One, he always seemed to be able to re-interperete his material in new and interesting ways and two, the players, namely Rouse, were able to express that material in new and exciting ways. Bye ya, stands as an example and I love how its played here than anywhere else!

Did your company offer you a severance package by any chance, because it seems like it was not your fault that you lost your job. If so, that will buy you some time to put together a resume or a CV, depending on your line of work. All of the suggestions of posting your resume on Monster and Career Builder are spot on. I can make a suggestion based on a friend's experience. A friend of mine lost his job a while back and he got a head-hunter to help locate him a new job- and he even didn't have to relocate. Of course, the down-side is that you have to pay him a fee to search, but if I recall you do not have to pay him until you have a job, and he found a new job relevtively fast. I hope that helps. Picked up Foster's Manhatten Fever earlier this week, and this one is a very enjoyable set. I mean, there's nothing earth-shattering here, but its not always necessary for me for everything to be revolutionary. Love the first tune (going by memory) "Ms. No Nose" and I think Mickey Roker's contribution to not only that tune but the entire album is what makes this disk essential listening. Man, that dude can swing! What an excellent drummer (and I liked him from the time I heard Sweet Honey Bee, but now I like him even more now.)

With cover art by Vinny Golia! That's Vinny Golia's artwork? Didn't know that! Besides the fact that I dig his music (those Nine Winds are becoming harder and harder to get) I respect him now as an artist!

As long as it's up--how is that Holland/Phillips album? I've seen it everywhere, but I'm somewhat tentative on what seems (up front) like it could be mismatch. This album is (surprisingly) available on yourmusic.com, so you can try it out for cheap. I have it but haven't listened yet. Guy I've finally gotten around to listening to this. Very nice! Recommended if you like this sort of stuff. Guy I also like this one quite a bit. Kinda wish the Bailey/Holland would make it to CD, but I'm not holding my breath. FWIW: Love the Barre/Holland album cover too.

This is a nice list of RVG's if you don't own some of these. Its nice to see some of those elusive CC series and Conns getting the RVG treatment. Will pick up Davis Cup (initially passed on this one 10 years ago and never really made an effort to seek it out, but at mid-price I'll get it) and upgrade my prehistoric copy of Delightfulee (even the booklet is turning light brown). If we're going to start a list of what to cram in the reissue program before EMI explodes, I'd like to add: Total Eclipse New York is Now Love Call New Soil

Well, I picked this one up last week and I'm glad I did! Overall, the quibbles with this set are so minor that I don't even find myself paying attention to them, and Woody N' You does cook! By and large a mostly satisfying session.
