Just listened to the Blackburn sessions - very nice - one of the best Conns I've bought in the last few years. Good tunes, tasty solos, great sound - the complete package - plus the disc goes on forever - I told my son he could flip on the TV when the disc was done and it practically killed him "Aw, it's only on track 11!"

I getcha - similar lineup and sound, different repetoire - cool.

I don't think this CD is considered the EBB. I am curious to find out more about the EBB cd in the can that was mentioned earlier in this thread. I've been getting into Motian's stuff recently, picked up this, the first EBB cd with Joshua Redman (very nice), Trioism (Frisell, Lovano, Dewey Redman on a track), and I Have The Room Above Her (Frisell, Lovano) - all great stuff - definitely looking into other titles as $$$ permits

Just got the Hill, McLean, and Blackburn at my local brick and mortar - listening to them later today (as its raining, and all my kids' afternoon activities will be cancelled)

Just pre-ordered this! Can't wait!

I just tried to change my avatar and when I upload it, it doesn't change. I tried deleting the current one, no dice. Deleting, then loggin off and back on, still goes back to old when I try to update image. The image I'm using falls within the criteria for an avatar image. Help!?!?!

There's sound clips of this release (which I think covers some of the Conn) on HMV and the Toshiba Emi website, though I couldn't get the HMV ones to play. All the Toshiba site has is Stella By Starlight, which is the tune I was least interested in hearing. Still, good stuff.

Wow - I'm all about these releases - June is bustin out all over. What can you tell me about the Ilori? More Mclean and Hill is always good for me, and I'm intrigued by the Blackburn set.

It's not just another chops record, but an album featuring some great tunes, a great ensemble, and a very cohesive feel. Fave tunes: McKinley - nice staccato bass/guitar groove with a catchy flugel/alto sax melody over the top that I can't get out of my head Deco - very cool head with some great solo work Stoplight Won't Change - head with a Dixie Dregs/Aquarium Rescue Unit/Flecktones type of vibe Brian's got chops to spare, but uses them tastefully, so when you hear a multifinger tapped run or chords/bassline or melody/bassline, it fits seamlessly into the flavor of the tune. All in all highly recommended. You can get it through CD Baby or iTunes. Listening to this CD now for a couple of days has inspired to practice my bass (man, my fingers are sore)

It's been 16 years since I last saw MF, and he's changed a bit. He's still the same fun lovin' old coot he always has been (for me in my lifetime, anyway) who can play ridiculously high and still have a fat tone, but he just does it a lot less. But y'know what - he's still awesome and I'd see him again in a heartbeat. When he took a solo, it was filled with classic Maynardisms that you wanna hear - screams, shakes, some bop licks, and the kiss-off note pulloffs - all thrown together in a potpourri of pure MF goodness. The band was incredible as usual - tight, swinging, and LOUD. Except for an out of tune piano (with keys that produced only percussive splats and not actual notes, and some that made chords of their own) the band sounded phenomenal. The lead tpt player was playing some of Maynard's licks in the MF hit medley - and though the super screams were there, you still longed for the power that only MF could put behind them. Rhythm section - sick, that's all I gotta say. North Texas guys who tore. it. up. (check out my post about Brian Mulholland's cd in new releases) All in all, an excellent show and I'd recommend seeing them when they come to town.

As a former Seattle resident living in Green Bay, it was hard for me to score up some new 'Hawks gear to wear and display this weekend, so my mother-in-law in Portland, OR sent us a box of stuff. The now coolest thing in that box - an officialy licensed 8" magnet with the Seahawk logo and "12th Man" slogan. Displaying it proudly. Oh, and I just copyrighted the internet message abbreviation "lol", so I bet a lot of you owe me like $5 or something. I don't mean to offend anyone here, but Texas kinda scares me a little. But anyplace that is the home of Jim Sangrey can't be all bad
