Thanks RDK, I know there's a lot of variety on it, I've been lusting after the set since it was released. I know i'll have hell to pay, but it will be worth it.

As someone who was tone deaf and lacked rhythm (when I began playing guitar), I just want to say that I believe you should tell him about his problem with time. I have found that I have been able to overcome these things by continuing to practice and play. I've been playing for 20 years now, but now I have great pitch and have no problems with time. I believe he can overcome this with practice. :rsmile:

I feel the same way about Hammonds. I know what you guys are talking about... My wife wants me to find a 12-step program for my guitar addiction.

Well, I just had to do it. I've been wanting that T-K-M set forever. I've been so good about not buying jazz. I'd gone two years without a new Mosaic set and I've gone months without buying single jazz cd. So, I figured since I was going to get in trouble for charging the T-K-M set.... .... I ordered the Capitol Jazz set too! This should hold me for a while.

I'm more of a twangy/roots/country guitarist than a jazz player, but my favorite guitar when I'm playing jazz is my American made Epiphone Casino (top photo - guitar in photo isn't mine, but is the same model). I dig this guitar because I love the P-90 pickups in it and it is completely hollow. It's also cool because it's (in essence) the same guitar as the Gibson 330 that Grant Green played. One of my newest additions is my Gretsch 6118 (bottom photo - guitar in photo isn't mine, but is the same model), I know it's more of a rockabilly guitar than a jazz guitar, but the filtertron pickups are great for that Chet Atkins sounds. Truth be told, I find I can pretty much get any sound I want on my various Telecasters, especially my Tele with the mini neck humbucker. Guitars are fun! I just wish I could afford a nice Gibson L5 or something like that.

Clem, I haven't seen that Hopper film, but I'd love to find of copy of his "The Last Movie", I saw it once and I really dug the music in it. I can't believe you remember the Wynn Stewart discussion. Yeah, I dig all that Bakersfield and SoCal country stuff. That's pretty much my biggest influence in my own guitar pickin'. I recently got the Gosdin Brothers SOUNDS OF GOODBYE cd. It's pretty cool, but I dig Clark's cd more. I've got almost all of Gene Clark's records/cds, and I have to day my absolute favorite is the first Dillard and Clark album, THE FANTASTIC EXPEDITION, fortunately I got it as a twofer cd on Mobile Fidelty coupled with their second album. Like Brandon, I've also been checking out Teenage Fanclub again. I think their recent sampler disc is a nice way to hear them. The track "I Need Direction" off their HOWDY! album is my favorite. I agree about McGuinn, I think he really peaked with THE NOTORIOUS BYRD BROTHERS (which is my FAVORITE Byrds album). I went through a huge Crosby phase when I was in my late teens / early twenties. I agree with Bev about Cros' great chords. "Everybody's Been Burned" is my favorite Byrds track. As a person, he kind of bugs me. I was watching the Monterey Pop Festival DVDs recently and I don't blame McGuinn and Hillman for firing him. He really made an ass of himself IMO. The whole ego trip of CSN kind of wore on me, but I still dig the music.

Ghost, Timeless Flight has been out for years. I've had my copy for a long time. I LOVE the Byrds. I dig the early stuff and the country stuff. I think that band has had more influence on me than any other. They got me into jazz with "Eight Miles High". I read Crosby's biography years ago, and his stories about listening to Coltrane made me buy my first jazz album, Africa Brass. They helped me develop a love of country and bluegrass by mixing them into their YOUNGER THAN YESTERDAY and NOTORIOUS BYRD BROTHERS albums. SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO was my first real country record. I now am a HUGE country fan. The later Clarence White era has been a large influence on my guitar playing. I'm having a Parsons B-string bender Telecaster built right now. For years, my main guitar was a Rickenbacker 12-string. I was really into the McGuinn thing. I'll admit the early incarnation wasn't a very good live band. This opinion comes from the boots I have heard, but I believe they were a great live group when Clarence White was in the band. I love the LIVE AT FILLMORE cd that was released a couple years ago. White is playing circles around everyone. I think I have recordings of every offshoot of the group. The GENE CLARK WITH THE GOSDIN BROTHERS has long been a favorite. I better stop, I could gush all day about the Byrds.

Man, I wish I would never have read this thread. So, what credit cards does Mosaic accept?

I've been wanting to do the same thing for ages, but I just haven't had the courage (or space and time) to do it. I look forward to seeing how this works for you, Moose. It's probably what I'll do when I move in the fall.

I had a pet rat about 10 years ago named Gilda (after the Rita Hayworth movie). She was a cool pet. She loved Cheetos. But, my stupid roomate decided to be "snake guy" and bought some pythons and boa constrictors. I think it traumatized her seeing members of her species being consumed by those stupid snakes. She passed on soon after (and no, I didn't let him feed her to the snakes - he did ask though)

Wow! A year already. I remember that morning logging into the BNBB and seeing the sections of the site disappearing before my eyes. Thank you Jim, Joe, Randy, Use3D for giving us this great home away from home! I really appreciate the people that I have met here. Thanks Lon! I guess that's one thing I'm wrestling with. I can't believe God would be so exclusionary also. I keep thinking of George Bernard Shaw's "Man and Superman". The story of Don Juan in Hell really applies to me. Just as he ended up in Hell because he enjoyed the company there better, I think this applies to me also.

I've been really struggling lately. I keep obsessing on the thought that according to my faith, my son could end up in Hell. If that happened, there is no way I could hold nothing but hatred towards God. Maybe it's time to read some of the Nag Hammidi texts again...

I do the same thing. I find it really difficult to get rid of music. I'm also weary of getting rid of stuff because I have done that in the past and later regretted it. When I really got into jazz about 12 years ago, I thought rock music was worthless, so I sold most of my rock CDs so I could buy jazz. I've been buying back those same rock CDs for years now. I probably have replaced 95% of what I sold (and I sold a LOT of CDs).

I still keep my CDs in the box set, which I think is my downfall. In the future, when I have the space, my Mosaic CDs will be mixed in with the regular population. I don't have any regrets about buying the Mosaic sets, but I just found that it's rare when they release a set that I haven't already bought a good part of already. I've really wanted the Tristano Mosaic forever, but I already have everything on it that has been released outside the set. One thing that I've gotten into doing is making CDRs of my Mosaic sets with the albums in their original orders. I find that's my favorite way of listening to the sets.

Jeez, this must be the norm for wives of jazz collectors! We are in the midst of cleaning out some closets and a storage room and I'm getting the "why the hell do you have to have so many records, I bet you could make some serious money" speech. Admittedly they take up a lot of room, but they just don't get it... You have my sympathies! I hate when she throws out the.... "You have 3000 CDs. If you paid $10 for each of them...." Aaaargh!
