  1. I couldn't find it for a while. I found it two ways: 1) Search under album name - conflict 2) In the jazz section, check the new tab. It was there when I looked a little while ago Good luck! :rsmile:
  2. Thanks Rooster Ties! I'll check it out. I know this isn't emusic related, but it's mp3 related. Here's a link to a site that has some cool mp3 downloads. Right now they have a live Roland Kirk show from 1970 and a Miles show from 1975. They alternate the shows, so check it out. Darkfunk
  3. I've just finished listening to this album for the first time. I love it!!!! I downloaded it from emusic.com, but I need to buy a copy of this.
  4. I finally downloaded Jimmy Woods' Conflict. I have to say that I'm impressed with the variable bit rate mp3 sound quality. I've only listened to it with headphones on my computer, but I'm happy to say that I don't hear any of the whooshiness that I'm used to with mp3's from Fantasy. The file sizes are a bit bigger, but I think it was a great move of emusic going to VBR. :rsmile:
  5. Congratulations RDK! :rsmile:
  6. You should have listed THIS POLL. I would have voted for it.
  7. Yeah, I did pick some of my favorites. They are pretty hard choices. My personal pick is John Patton's Boogaloo. I have it on vinyl and cd and it's lifted me out of the dumps a few times. I just realized that most of my titles are older Rare Groove releases. It was GREAT being a BN fanatic in the mid-nineties. I couldn't wait for the next batch of issues/reissues to come out. I guess I'm just jaded, but I don't get as excited about the Rare Grooves as I used to. I think for me it's the concentration on Mizell productions as reissues that have taken the fun out of it for me. I'd rather hear the sixties/early-seventies stuff. :rsmile:
  8. You want it? You got it! I created a poll. Rare Groove Poll #1
  9. Whoo hoo!!!!
  10. As connoisseur series500 series requested, I have made my Rare Groove poll. These titles are some of my favorites. I was really tempted to just do a John Patton only poll because they are all very greazy, but I was good included 1 title from each artist. So if you're not polled out, please vote. :rsmile:
  11. pryan, If the expense of a double cd set isn't an issue, I'd recommend the set. I really like it. The route I took with Ayler was through his ESP recordings. I'd recommend Spiritual Unity or Spirits Rejoice. If you have an emusic.com membership, I believe they have the ESP albums. You'll probably get better answers than mine, since I'm not the biggest Ayler expert here, but I think you'd be safe with any of these albums. Good luck! :rsmile:
  12. Thanks for the great polls, connoisseur series500! This was a great idea. :rsmile:
  13. I agree. It would be very wise of BN watch these polls to see which Conns they should re-released as RVG's. Maybe Kevin can give the results to Michael Cuscuna when he talks to him. Everybody should have the ability to buy Tina Brooks' True Blue. I really love that album. I just wish I could vote for more than one item. :rsmile:
  14. Just when I thought I was safe. I want the Captain on video!!!! :rsmile:
  15. I really love the Atlantic set. I would feel very comfortable recommending it. One thing I did was to reburn the albums onto cd with the original track order as twofer cds. I do this with a lot of my box sets. I checked half.com and it looks like they're selling for around $60 there. I have to say that I really do feel hosed by the Impulse set. I had most of the cds on it already, but I bought it anyway. Now that they keep finding alternates, I get more bummed out. I think I've bought some of that Coltrane stuff 3 times already. :rsmile:
  16. Ah, Ken Nordine! I love those Word Jazz albums. My wife's favorite color is purple. I bet you can figure out the next part. I feel like I live in a grape. She can't stop buying purple things. Our bedroom is purple. Our living room is getting more purple all the time. Heck, she usually dresses in purple. I guess I'm lucky she doesn't like blue. She would look like the girl who turned into the blueberry in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. That would just be too much!!!! I'd have to find some Oompa Loompas to roll her away. :rsmile:
  17. Jazzbo, THANK YOU! couw, You mean there's another way to spell that blasted word! aarrrgh!!! Just when I finally got it down. How do you keep track of multiple languages? I only know english (and a bit of poor spanish) and that's hard enough. :rsmile:
  18. Thanks Hans, I'll take it off my wish list (which is quite long anyway). That's too bad that it was a disappointment for your friend.
  19. You're welcome, David! Holy Grail is one of my favorite movies EVER. I just can't help it whenever I hear the phase "and what is your favorite color" - Great film! :rsmile:
  20. Yes, I have spent a lot of time with Trout Mask Replica. That's one of my favorites too. The only Beefheart I don't really enjoy is stuff like Bluejeans and Moonbeams. The mid-seventies stuff. I wish I had the funds for that Beefheart boxset on the Revenant label. :rsmile:
  21. I'm done for the night. My wife wants me to rejoin the family. Have fun! :rsmile:
  22. Rooster Ties, I hope you like Olé. It's funny, I got into jazz through the music of John Coltrane. For me it was Coltrane and Mingus who were my first 10 or so jazz albums. I've got every Coltrane cd I could get my hands on (except for a few of the Prestige dates). I've got the box sets (Impulse and Atlantic). So you can see that I'm quite familiar and a big fan of his music. The thing is: I rarely listen to Coltrane anymore. I can't say why. My love of his music hasn't diminished in any way, but I just don't find myself listening to him as much. I think one reason for me is that I can't just put him on as background music. It's hard for me to find time to sit down and really listen to music anymore, so that could be a reason why I don't play his records as much. I think Olé should be an enjoyable AOtW because it is his last album for Atlantic. It was recorded early in his time with Elvin Jones and McCoy Tyner. You've got both Reggie Workman and Art Davis on the bass. Plus you've got Eric Dolphy and Freddie Hubbard. I know it's not his highest rated album, but I really love it. One interesting thing that I've found in my Coltrane listening is my appreciation of his music from the last year of his life. I love the way he was playing his horn. The vibrato he used at times really gets to me. I find myself being drawn deeper into his later music more and more. :rsmile:
  23. Argh! I think you guys are going to catch me tonight!
  24. Whenever I hear this question, "What is your favorite color?", I can't help but think of the bridge keeper at the Bridge of Death in scene 23 of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. GALAHAD: There it is! ARTHUR: The Bridge of Death! ROBIN: Oh, great. ARTHUR: Look! There's the old man from scene twenty-four! BEDEVERE: What is he doing here? ARTHUR: He is the keeper of the Bridge of Death. He asks each traveller five questions-- GALAHAD: Three questions. ARTHUR: Three questions. He who answers the five questions-- GALAHAD: Three questions. ARTHUR: Three questions may cross in safety. ROBIN: What if you get a question wrong? ARTHUR: Then you are cast into the Gorge of Eternal Peril. ROBIN: Oh, I won't go. GALAHAD: Who's going to answer the questions? ARTHUR: Sir Robin! ROBIN: Yes? ARTHUR: Brave Sir Robin, you go. ROBIN: Hey! I've got a great idea. Why doesn't Launcelot go? LAUNCELOT: Yes. Let me go, my liege. I will take him single-handed. I shall make a feint to the north-east that s-- ARTHUR: No, no. No. Hang on! Hang on! Hang on! Just answer the five questions-- GALAHAD: Three questions. ARTHUR: Three questions as best you can, and we shall watch... and pray. LAUNCELOT: I understand, my liege. ARTHUR: Good luck, brave Sir Launcelot. God be with you. BRIDGEKEEPER: Stop! Who would cross the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see. LAUNCELOT: Ask me the questions, bridgekeeper. I am not afraid. BRIDGEKEEPER: What... is your name? LAUNCELOT: My name is 'Sir Launcelot of Camelot'. BRIDGEKEEPER: What... is your quest? LAUNCELOT: To seek the Holy Grail. BRIDGEKEEPER: What... is your favourite colour? LAUNCELOT: Blue. BRIDGEKEEPER: Right. Off you go. LAUNCELOT: Oh, thank you. Thank you very much. ROBIN: That's easy! BRIDGEKEEPER: Stop! Who approacheth the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see. ROBIN: Ask me the questions, bridgekeeper. I'm not afraid. BRIDGEKEEPER: What... is your name? ROBIN: 'Sir Robin of Camelot'. BRIDGEKEEPER: What... is your quest? ROBIN: To seek the Holy Grail. BRIDGEKEEPER: What... is the capital of Assyria? [pause] ROBIN: I don't know that! Auuuuuuuugh! BRIDGEKEEPER: Stop! What... is your name? GALAHAD: 'Sir Galahad of Camelot'. BRIDGEKEEPER: What... is your quest? GALAHAD: I seek the Grail. BRIDGEKEEPER: What... is your favourite colour? GALAHAD: Blue. No, yel-- auuuuuuuugh! BRIDGEKEEPER: Hee hee heh. Stop! What... is your name? ARTHUR: It is 'Arthur', King of the Britons. BRIDGEKEEPER: What... is your quest? ARTHUR: To seek the Holy Grail. BRIDGEKEEPER: What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? ARTHUR: What do you mean? An African or European swallow? BRIDGEKEEPER: Huh? I-- I don't know that. Auuuuuuuugh! BEDEVERE: How do know so much about swallows? ARTHUR: Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know. :rsmile: So my favorite color is Red. No, blue-- auuuuuuuugh! :rsmile:
