  3. Those Indonesians have good taste!
  4. Well said, couw. Jimmy, The best thing I did around here was to stop posting in and avoid the political forums. I came here to talk music anyway. I know how you feel being the only jazz lover in your area. A lot of the joy of this music is in sharing it and learning about it for me. I hope you stick around. :rsmile:
  5. At this point, I'm only into the Dead for the music. I would never give up listening to it just because of some overly self-involved Deadheads. It's pretty funny though, there's a bulletin board for the gdlive.com site, but all they do on it is trade cds and fight. They don't really talk about much. You bring up Quicksilver. I love that group. I couldn't imagine getting to see both bands play together. That would have been amazing. The interplay between the guitars of John Cippolina and Gary Duncan was amazing. I just wish they would never have added Dino Valente to the group. I like some of the Just For Love album, but I don't like much after that. I've been able to find some live QMS shows using the furthurnet.org site. :rsmile: :rsmile:
  6. That's a good album! I hope you win the auction. :rsmile:
  7. Welcome back to the bus, Lon! I love the songs from Wake of the Flood. I just found out that Dick's Picks 28 will be from February 1973 when many of these songs debuted. One of my favorite things is listening to a live version of Eyes of the World on a sunny afternoon. If you're interested, www.gdlive.com has some Wake of the Flood outtakes on it for download. It looks like the site is down right now, but it should be back up soon. :rsmile:
  8. I like the Kentucky Fried Chicken head. You can't beat that! mmmmm! I was watching tv last night and I noticed that George from Seinfeld (Jason Alexander) is now doing KFC commercials. I guess he had a good run while it lasted. The KFC by my house sort of creeps me out. It's staffed by a bunch of stoned teenagers who don't seem quite trustworthy. I went there once, but I haven't been back. I just have a bad feeling about getting something other than chicken in my bucket. Yuck! :rsmile:
  9. H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y !!!
  10. Thanks guys! I was going to buy the new reissue the day it came out, but was warned away from it. I appreciate your recommendations. Now I just have to find some cash.
  11. I chose Django. I really appreciate Charlie Christian. This is one of those really hard choices. I can listen to Christian all day. I love his playing, solo and with Goodman. I've only heard Lonnie Johnson's later stuff and it was good. I dig Tiny Grimes too. I believe he played a four-stringed guitar like Eddie Condon? But, Django to me is amazing. I listen to his stuff in amazement. I play guitar, but I only dream of being able to play like Django. The fact that he played the way he did with a damaged hand is even more frightening. :rsmile:
  12. What I've seen around here lately makes me even happier I stuck with this board. This is a great place with great people! :rsmile:
  13. No! But I still have all the Obi strips. As Herman Munster so wisely put it, "Darn, Darn, Darn, Darn, Darn!" Did you get one, Ed? :rsmile:
  14. I was starting to wonder if Musicboy might be Tomatbluenote. Or that stupid Blue Note Central Scrutinizer they had before they closed it down.
  15. Thanks Lon! I highly respect your opinion. I believe it is the same remaster as the box. Now I can finally get my Blanton Webster fix!!!!
  16. I got on the connoisseur bandwagon when the first series was released. I remember the excitement I had about that series. I purchased all the cds and most of their vinyl counterparts. I've kept up with the releases and I have them all except for three titles which I already had as TOCJ's. I just couldn't justify buying them again (especially when I had paid so much for the TOCJ's already). Now I wish I would have bit the bullet and bought the conn. versions too. I can't wait for the next batch. :rsmile: BTW - I loved that West Coast series. Too bad it didn't do as well as they had hoped.
  17. This is a great set of discs. If there is somebody out there still looking for these two volumes. Half.com has volume 1 for $6.98 (plus shipping) and volume 2 for $15 (plus shipping) right now.
  18. I only have the three Columbia volumes, so I don't know how the other versions fare, but I love these sets. This is amazing music. I'm kicking myself because I held off picking up the old RCA Blanton Webster cd set because I heard the remastering was bad. Now I hear the remastering on the new version is even worse. Aaaargh! I don't know what to do.
  19. Neon/Rob, Add me to the Organissimo forum members who want to invite you to return to this forum. You'd be a great addition around here. I appreciate/respect how reasonable you have been in this whole mess. :rsmile:
  20. I'll add another thumbs up for this collection! The music and the booklet are FINE. I'm looking forward to that second volume. :rsmile:
  21. Hey Joe, I'm about 7 hours from San Francisco. I'm in the southern part of Orange County. It would be great to see you guys, but I can't imagine my wife letting me get away. Though, she does love San Francisco.... It would be neat to have a west coast Organissimo event. Get a bunch of us together to see you guys and do a meet and greet. :rsmile:
  22. Mnytime, There is a time when it's okay to be angry as a Christian. It's usually referred to as righteous anger. A good example of righteous anger is when Jesus went after the moneylenders in the temple. :rsmile: slsmcgrew, I dig your post. This is like a family around here. :rsmile:
  23. Wow! emusic has been adding some interesting labels lately. That's great about Beggar's Banquet. My 80's listening included a lot of stuff on their label. I'm not sure which Stereolab they have, but they are one of my favorites of the 90's. :rsmile:
  24. I know I've been raving about this cd for a while, but I just wanted to do it again. I've been out of commission with bronchitus, but I've been listening to this cd while I've been sick. It's been a real ray of sunlight. If there is anybody still on the fence about it, please give it a shot. Maybe it's the medication I'm taking, but I heard the fluidity of Pat Martino in Joe's playing. I wish I could see you guys live. One request: I really dig the sax on the cd, but it would be really cool if you could get Jim Sangrey to play some on the next cd. Since he's a member of the Organissimo family and all. Good luck with your tour! :rsmile:
  25. Musicboy, Joe said it all. We respect each other here. We do have very different beliefs, but we still respect each other. There will be things said that may hurt feelings from time to time, but we still are a group of friends here. There is nothing hateful going on. Just people with different opinions. This is America, free speech and all. I'm glad the moderators here don't automatically shut down every thread where people disagree. I wouldn't come back here if they did. We're adults after all. Please go back to your board.
