I got on the connoisseur bandwagon when the first series was released. I remember the excitement I had about that series. I purchased all the cds and most of their vinyl counterparts. I've kept up with the releases and I have them all except for three titles which I already had as TOCJ's. I just couldn't justify buying them again (especially when I had paid so much for the TOCJ's already). Now I wish I would have bit the bullet and bought the conn. versions too. I can't wait for the next batch. :rsmile: BTW - I loved that West Coast series. Too bad it didn't do as well as they had hoped.

Sonny Stitt at the High Hat on Ebay
AfricaBrass replied to Brad's topic in Offering and Looking For...
This is a great set of discs. If there is somebody out there still looking for these two volumes. Half.com has volume 1 for $6.98 (plus shipping) and volume 2 for $15 (plus shipping) right now. -
I only have the three Columbia volumes, so I don't know how the other versions fare, but I love these sets. This is amazing music. I'm kicking myself because I held off picking up the old RCA Blanton Webster cd set because I heard the remastering was bad. Now I hear the remastering on the new version is even worse. Aaaargh! I don't know what to do.

Neon/Rob, Add me to the Organissimo forum members who want to invite you to return to this forum. You'd be a great addition around here. I appreciate/respect how reasonable you have been in this whole mess. :rsmile:

I'll add another thumbs up for this collection! The music and the booklet are FINE. I'm looking forward to that second volume. :rsmile:

Hey Joe, I'm about 7 hours from San Francisco. I'm in the southern part of Orange County. It would be great to see you guys, but I can't imagine my wife letting me get away. Though, she does love San Francisco.... It would be neat to have a west coast Organissimo event. Get a bunch of us together to see you guys and do a meet and greet. :rsmile:

Mnytime, There is a time when it's okay to be angry as a Christian. It's usually referred to as righteous anger. A good example of righteous anger is when Jesus went after the moneylenders in the temple. :rsmile: slsmcgrew, I dig your post. This is like a family around here. :rsmile:

Wow! emusic has been adding some interesting labels lately. That's great about Beggar's Banquet. My 80's listening included a lot of stuff on their label. I'm not sure which Stereolab they have, but they are one of my favorites of the 90's. :rsmile:

I know I've been raving about this cd for a while, but I just wanted to do it again. I've been out of commission with bronchitus, but I've been listening to this cd while I've been sick. It's been a real ray of sunlight. If there is anybody still on the fence about it, please give it a shot. Maybe it's the medication I'm taking, but I heard the fluidity of Pat Martino in Joe's playing. I wish I could see you guys live. One request: I really dig the sax on the cd, but it would be really cool if you could get Jim Sangrey to play some on the next cd. Since he's a member of the Organissimo family and all. Good luck with your tour! :rsmile:

Musicboy, Joe said it all. We respect each other here. We do have very different beliefs, but we still respect each other. There will be things said that may hurt feelings from time to time, but we still are a group of friends here. There is nothing hateful going on. Just people with different opinions. This is America, free speech and all. I'm glad the moderators here don't automatically shut down every thread where people disagree. I wouldn't come back here if they did. We're adults after all. Please go back to your board.

I don't know you and I didn't mean to offend you Musicboy. I'm sorry if I did, but I thought I saw veiled threats in your posts. I don't doubt your faith. I'm glad you have it. My faith is everything to me. I'm sorry that you've been kept up moderating your board. I haven't posted on it and I've had no intention of doing so. I hope this can all end. You have my word that I won't mess with your board. As far as your civil rights go, I'm sorry you feel offended. I read things on this board sometimes that really hurt my feelings too, but that's the world. I guess I've found that in being a Christian, I've had to develop a pretty thick skin. I'm not going to argue with you, but I think it's more important that we show the love of Christ to each other rather than being nasty. Maybe people will see the good things about Christianity instead of the negative. Please accept my apology if I offended you.

I went with Bix too. I really enjoy his playing. I still need to get that Mosaic set. I've been digging the Tram series on The Old Masters. I really need to hear more of this stuff. There are some great trumpeters on this list. I feel guilty not getting to pick them too. It's great that we're starting to talk about some earlier jazz. I don't know as much about it as some of you, but I get a great deal of pleasure listening to it.

Album of the week: Sonny Rollins: Sonny Meets Hawk
AfricaBrass replied to AfricaBrass's topic in Album Of The Week
This is a great pick, pryan! I was hoping this would get more votes when I put it up for my album of the week poll. I've just started listening to it and I'm really digging it. I love the album of the week because it's great getting to hear everyone's opinions about it. I've really been focusing on different things in my listening. I'll post later when I've heard it a few more times. :rsmile: -
I've been very sick and stuck in bed over the weekend so I've been listening to music on my headphones. My pick this weekend is the Mercury Rhythm and Blues 1945-55 box that I got from BMG. It was around $30 (after shipping) and it is 8 cds. I highly recommend it. I especially love the sides with Jimmy Witherspoon with Jay McShann. :rsmile:

Favorite guitarist from this list
AfricaBrass replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Recommendations
These polls are tough! There is an embarrassment of riches with these guitarists. I wish I could have chosen half of them. I went with Wes. As much as I dig Farlow, Green and the others, Wes is just special to me. His album Full House was the first jazz guitar album I bought and it is still a frequent visitor to my stereo. Thanks for creating the polls conn! They're fun! :rsmile: -
Sorry Joe, I don't mean to stir up Musicboy and his henchmen to turn the music industry on Organissimo. It just makes me sick that threats like this can be made. Musicboy, Joe's post makes it perfectly clear that their group has nothing to do with this. The nastiest behaivor has come from you. Because of your faith, you should act better than this. My name is Jeff Blake (you can blacklist me all you want). :rsmile:

WOW! I've been sick for the last 5 days and I missed this. Wow! I always miss the fun. I have to applaud Jim Sangrey's reply to Musicboy. I am a Christian myself, but I don't expect anyone else to have my beliefs and behave the way I choose too. I believe God himself gave us free will, Musicboy. You're doing no service to your faith by bringing it into this argument. So a couple people asked some silly questions on your Norah shrine. Maybe if you spent some time focusing on the object of your faith, you would be so uptight if one of your IDOLs (Norah Jones) got a little bit of teasing. It disgusts me that a fellow Christian would resort to threats. What's the big deal? You seem to be dealing with the problem by banning the "troublemakers" - I've had my moments of frustration on this board hearing negative things about Christianity. But am I going to change people's view of Christians by being a jerk about it. I choose to visit this board. I like the people here. If you have a problem with it, crawl back under your Norah Jones shaped rock. It's people like you that give Christianity a bad name.

I'm with you guys, Sal and Scott. The Dead's studio albums (except Workingman's Dead and American Beauty) don't match the live stuff for me either. I do enjoy them, though, because the studio versions are interesting when compared to the live versions. It's too bad they were never able to capture in the studio what they had live. I guess I also like the studio versions because they are all I had for a long time when I was a Dead newbie. This was long before they started opening the vaults, and tape trading was only for those in the know. It's amazing that I can download hundreds of shows off the internet at any time. If any of you out there are interested in live shows. Check out www.gdlive.com or www.furthurnet.org. These are great resources for downloading live shows. If you're not familiar with the .shn format, you should be. This is a lossless compression format. Basically you convert your .wav files to .shn and they are about half the size. The best part is that unlike .mp3, the file quality hasn't been lost in any way when you convert it back to a .wav file for cd burning. This would be a great format for trading jazz also. I hope some of you will give the downloading method a chance. I've got hundreds of Dead shows now. :rsmile:

I still like the stuff before Heavy Weather better too. I'm trying to be as open minded as possible, but that album doesn't really grab me. I do think it's cool that a lot of us are trying hard to open up ourselves to stuff we wouldn't normally have given a chance to. I've learned a lot just since this board started. :rsmile:

Cool! Eric, I feel the same way. I've gotten very hooked on this place. Glad you're here! :rsmile:

Upcoming AOTW - The Quintet at Massey Hall

Red, I'm glad you were nominated. I've had this album for years but I've never really given it the attention it deserves. This will be a fine album of the week. :rsmile:
