Thanks Scott! Couw helped me with the animated nose. I didn't have the software to make animated gifs at the time.

Yes!

I think you were watching the Crossroads Guitar Festival. When I was young, I used to love events like that. As I've gotten older and more jaded, I stopped watching these types of concerts, but I saw this on PBS last week and it was a good show. Heck... Clapton even played well. Maybe that Cream reunion won't be so bad...

Hmmm... I wonder who was in charge of this exercise? Maybe it was... -
There's a bonus track on the CD reissue of This Nation's Saving Grace by The Fall called "I am Damo Suzuki" and it's basically a cover of "Gommorha". Lyrics are basically a name-check of Can tunes. (Ex: "What have you got in that paper bag? Is it a dose of Vitamin C? I am Damo Suzuki...") I have got to hear that.

akanalog, I'll have to give Future Days another listen. I've been guilty of the past in not giving an album a chance to grow on me before I file it away. I love "spacey", so it's got to be good. I'll look for some live stuff. Thanks for the info. I do have a Can bootleg called Mother Sky, but the sound quality is awful. :rsmile:

Thanks Clem, I'll just stick with my current Can cds. I've got a few of the albums on vinyl already, so I'm set. Delay 1968 is great. I DIG Malcolm Mooney. I've got all the Can albums, but Ege Bamyasi is the last one I really liked. Give me Delay 1968, Monster Movie, Soundtracks, Tago Mago and I'm a happy cat. Oh yeah, I do love the track "Gommorha" off Unlimited Edition. Speaking of Can, since I'm a little younger than some around here, I only discovered them in 1989. My first exposure came through a band called Loop who did a cover of "Mother Sky" - back then, Loop and Spacemen 3 rocked my world. Any Loop fans here? We need a Krautrock Korner around here... There's got to be some Cosmic Jokers fans around here.

I have the early 90's Can reissues. Are these worth the upgrade? (Of course I know the answer will be yes - oof!). I'm with you - I love Tago Mago.

Modern Rock - what do you like???
AfricaBrass replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous Music
The first 2 Supergrass albums are solid SMOOOOOOOKE! The third was wasn't as strong IMHO. They have a nice balance of pop and noisy rock. It's funny... I actually prefer their newer stuff. I think they've had a very interesting evolution. I believe they are currently recording their next album... I'll buy it the day it comes out. -
Modern Rock - what do you like???
AfricaBrass replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Rooster resurrecting threads... I don't remember if I posted on this thread last year but... I like a lot of modern music. I don't listen to any radio, but I still think there's a lot of incredible music being made. It just doesn't sell anymore. I'll add more later, but my top two current rock bands are: 1. Radiohead - I have loved everything they've done from OK Computer on. To me, they are the Pink Floyd of these times. IMO, they are the most interesting group in music today. 2. Supergrass - I only started listening to them 1 1/2 years ago with the release of the last album. Since then I've bought every album they've released. On a scale of 1 to 10, they are a 10 to me. -
That's cool. I ended up using the "used and new" feature at Amazon for some of my titles. They were pretty reasonable. Truthfully, I snuck my cd order in with the Christmas gift order. I know I'm living DANGEROUSLY. I'm just hoping it will be easier to ask for forgiveness than it would have been to ask my wife in the first place.
-
No help here, John. I ordered from Amazon. I think I was the guy that got the last copy of a few titles (sorry!).
-
Thanks for putting those up, Couw! It was a kick going through your animations.

I'll second that recommendation. I forgot about all the great blues and other types of music that Fantasy has. Man, this could turn into a really big bummer. There's a lot of great stuff that could go out of print. Here is one of their blues titles that I've liked for a long time, plus it has T-Bone Walker on it. Jimmy Witherspoon - Evenin' Blues

yea, is it as loosy-goosy as some people lead me to believe? can you comment on how focused you feel the sides are? i've stayed away from -all- of the jam session series, but the thought of being able to have them all in one place is very tempting. plus it's not in a sardine can like the parker set... -e- Of course it isn't as focused as some of the classic Verve sessions by these performers, but it is very enjoyable. But I'm biased, I love this kind of stuff. I figure if it says "Jam Sessions" on the box, then I'm going to get some jam sessions. It's funny, the first time through the set, I hadn't read the liners yet. So, I was guessing who was who as I listened. It was a lot of fun. I did pretty good with my guesses, but not as good as I had hoped (my jazz ears have gotten kind of rusty). Plus... the price is right... and the packaging is decent (for Verve). I'm a little nervous about the bottom of the set getting beat up, but I'm sure with a little care it will be fine.

How's the box set, Jeff? I think it's great! I've been doing a lot of driving lately and I've really enjoyed listening to the set on my road trips.

I'm with you. I ordered 15 OJC's yesterday. I got my first four today in the mail. Tonight I'll be listening to (in no particular order), Harold Land, Benny Golson, Arnette Cobb, and Yusef Lateef. Fortunately, I hadn't taken the OJC's for granted during much of the time I was on my jazz buying sprees in the past. I only started taking them for granted when I had unlimited downloads at emusic. I think I downloaded close to everything they had. but... The sound quality of the emusic mp3s was pretty bad and it kind of soured me on OJC's. That's when I started taking them for granted. If Universal will be in charge of distribution, my guess is that most OJC's will be true limited editions. The only caveat I can see is that between all of us here on the forum, we probably have every OJC. So... when they're out of print, let the trading begin.

Wow, Jeff--I want some of what you're having!

There's nothing wrong with Julie London covers...
-
I'm not taking any chances. But... this coming from a guy who has almost all of the Blue Note Collector Choice titles. I never figured I'd see them eventually replaced by superior sounding RVG's. I've always been pretty happy with the sound of OJC's so I'll live with it if there is an upgrade. It looks like I'll be having an OJC Christmas.

You guys "sleigh" me!

It glows more with each glass of gin he consumes. Actually, he's been drinking too much Bailey's. It keeps him warm at night. Without his little Star Trek uniform, he's freezing.

I wouldn't be surprised if the nose lit up around Christmas. For now, he's keeping it off because of the problem with Yukon Cornelius. I know they're buddies, but ol' YK has stalker tendencies and he just can't leave our hero alone. Heck, he's even creeped out the Bumble. It's so uncomfortable that Hermie the dentist doesn't even come around much anymore. It's so bad, YK doesn't even go out looking for tinsel anymore. In this light, since the nose basically functions as a beacon, it's staying off until later this month.
