    James Brown dies

Tears welled up in my eyes when I saw the photos of James Brown in his casket. I'm no expert on the history of music or American history or black culture in America, but I loved the music that man gave to all of us. My sorrow at his passing is that of a genuine music fan with a deep-rooted love for all that is funky. I remember going down to Music Plus in Burbank when I was a teen to buy the JB's set Funky Good Time, The Anthology. This was my introduction to James Brown's music. I was blown away. I thought I'd found the holy grail of music listening. I remember playing it for my friends and we all agreed that this was the best band we had ever heard. Now, back then I had heard very little music and to this day have not heard as much music as many on this board--but hell if the JB's aren't STILL the funkiest band I've ever heard. James Brown is the funkiest man who ever lived. Rest In Peace.
  8. I'm sure I mentioned it in the other thread we had on this topic, but Bennie Maupin's Slow Traffic To The Right is a good one in the Headhunters vein. I found it on used vinyl for three clams and just transferred it to my computer for further listening. The cover has a photo of Bennie smiling real goofy-like while seated on a ten speed bike.
  9. Not happy to see the Giants get Zito.
  10. Happy Birthday!
  11. I'll be playing the playlist that has all these again...
  12. Santa connoisseurseries500 sold me the following for a ridiculously low price: Dexter Gordon - Nights At The Keystone Vol.1-3 Art Pepper Mosaic Select Stanley Turrentine - Common Touch Thanks Conn! For watching his dogs on Christmas Eve, my neighbor gave me a $25 gift card to Amoeba. I'm still wondering what I'll get. I also got a Numark TTUSB turntable which I started a separate thread about.

    Numark TTUSB

My folks bought me one of these for Christmas, and I've been having a blast transferring my records to my computer. Fast, easy, and the software seems to have no problems with my Mac. The turntable is very solid in construction and beautiful in appearance. I'm not an audiophile and couldn't care less about a little snap, crackle, pop--but the software is capable of noise reduction (though I haven't really messed with it). This product has my endorsement!

    James Brown dies

RIP, JB. Thank you for everything.
  16. Yeah, that really sucks for Yao. I hope he heals well and fast.
  17. The Raiders will likely be one game worse than my 3-13 prediction. Nowhere to go but up, hopefully. Then again, next year they might only win one game, or none at all. The Raiders have scored 6 touchdowns since week 8. LaDainian Tomlinson by himself has 14 more than that during the same span. Ouch.
  18. Cheers! Happy Holidays everybody!
  19. Happy Birthday!
  20. "Don't Give A Damn" by King Cain/Silvertone Band is a favorite.
  21. No!
  22. The Cavs appear to have some chemistry issues across the board, and I think LeBron has a lot of doubt in his teammates. Chauncey calmly put a couple 4th quarter daggers in the Cavs to extend the lead then dished a couple crucial dimes to put them away last night. I love that guy.
  23. Kenny Burrell - Have Yourself A Soulful Little Christmas Joe Pass - Six String Santa Duke Pearson - Merry Ole Soul Plus a cd I have that has Paul Simon & Steve Martin doing "Silver Bells" and Porky Pig singing "Blue Christmas."
