  1. ^^^ That was great.
  2. I wondered if you'd weigh in here, Dan. I started my comment then got distracted for a bit, and now it looks lame in the wake of your informed perspective.
  3. Awkward! I think Shatner proved his point.
  4. Well, hopefully the athletes who feel that way will at least watch this documentary.
  5. They haven't played a game, and some clowns are saying the Lakers will beat the Bulls 72-10 regular season mark. I'm still not buying they will have the chemistry or the depth to beat OKC much less Miami, and will believe they're a great team when they prove it.
  6. I think the only thing that matters is making good songs with beautiful, memorable melodies and rhythms and moments. The medium or category or genre is beside the point. Make enjoyable noises. Innovations, schminovation. Make music to the best of your ability based on what you know and where you want to take it. Let the fuckers who need everything to move forward sort it out.
  7. It's like going to the bathroom at a club! $10 a month to lose the commercials. I'd rather put that toward adding to my collection and not sink $120/year and walk away with nothing. And, if $10/month is the introductory rate, eventually it will rise up in cost just like an eMusic membership. They'll make it $25/month and start limiting the number of listening minutes. There will be extra charges for "lightning fast, guaranteed streams" and other bullshit. No thanks. I'll take my guaranteed commercial free iPod, loaded with tracks off MY compact discs and vinyl.
  8. Really cool memories shared there by Malone. And his take on Jimmy Smith's gruff demeanor shows that there was another side to his personality. Maybe it depended on how one reacted to the first taste of Smith's abrasiveness, because it seems like Malone was able to get past it and gain Jimmy's favor.
  9. What was the Motor City Miracle? The Music City Miracle... Whoops. The Onion, on the ball as usual.
  10. Your top ten has The Holy Roller at #10, Tuck Rule at #2. The Motor City Miracle was also a farce.
  11. I agree - worst call EVER!! It's not even close to as bad as The Tuck Rule.
  12. Brutal hit. These replacement refs are letting a ton of head shots go in the games I watched today. Hope he's okay also. Just saw a replay in which Darrius raised a hand to acknowledge the crowd. I'm relieved. Brutal week of picks for us, Matthew.
  13. I hope Raiders receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is OK. He was carted off the field after taking a shot to the helmet on a crossing pattern. He showed no signs of movement. Sending positive vibes his way.
  14. Van B yet to submit picks again. Hope he's OK.
  15. I really like it, TTK. Nice consistent groove through the whole thing. "Come Down" is another standout track, and there's a great instrumental called "When She Made Me Promise" which closes it out.
  16. Some gems in there, for sure.
  17. Also in for the $30 option! If anyone hasn't bought any of the organissimo albums, the $50 option for a box set is a real bargain for a lot of great music.
  18. I'm three degrees from Kevin Bacon, via Edward Furlong who I once burned a doobie with.
  19. I believe you are correct. The Raiders are officially the worst team in the NFL. Someone make sure Conn is OK in the wake of his Pats' disastrous loss to the lowly Cardinals. Cowboy fans also on suicide watch following a meltdown to the Seattle Sleestaks. Wish I'd been watching that Giants/Bucs barnburner earlier. Game of the day.
  20. A quantitative tally of qualitative rankings might be the only honest approach. Listen to one's entire collection (!) with a scorecard for every musician and give points for quality songs and solos (!), while all the while referencing composer credits (!) and personnel lists for leader dates and sideman appearances (!), and remembering to judge them all with the same criteria the whole time. Then each scorecard could be measured against the other to determine rankings. Tiebreakers could include a wardrobe grade based on photos or whether or not the musician had a hot wife or bad ass husband. I nominate JSngry to tackle this task first. I trust he'll check back in with his results when he's finished listening to his entire collection several decades from now.

    Unplayable cdrs

I've had DVD-Rs that won't read in one computer, then read in another. I have this whole cabinet full of CD-Rs of albums I downloaded from emusic, most of which I can hear on my iPod. This thread makes me wonder how many of those have become useless wastes of space. Only one way to find out...
  22. Hey, I picked the Raiders week one. Based on how poorly they played, I'd say I've got the heart of a lion. Or I'm just a pathetic Raider fan optimistic enough to think his team would actually be decent this year.
  23. This is my favorite version of Night Walk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDf_8rnkCHE
  24. Ditto! These replacement refs better not mess up my picks.
  25. Have you had Roscoe's waffles though? The chicken is an afterthought.
