Ah, the Golden Sombrero. A highly dubious honor.

Received the Side Steps box in today's mail. Listening to disc one now. I have an extra Red Garland All Mornin' Long (20 bit remaster) if anyone needs it.

Stoked for my boys, especially Ethier who really swung a big bat in the series. Manny finally showed up, the short rest will be good for his ailing hand. Feel a twinge of pity for the Cards, that Game 2 choke was epic. I'm not really getting where the hate for my team comes from, it's not like they've won anything since '88. Go Dodgers! They ought to make the regular season a bit shorter in favor of a seven game divisional series.

Cardinals' starter Wainwright bitterly said it's possible Holliday lost the ball in the waving white playoff towels which were handed out at Dodger Stadium, and suggested MLB do something about that trend. VERY odd to see Holliday get eaten up by a routine line drive without all that much mustard on it, usually a fielder will pick one direction (the correct one) to position his glove and stay with it.

Couldn't believe Holliday dropped that ball. The tension that fell over the Cards after that was palpable. Huge at bats for Blake, Belliard, and Loretta. Wouldn't have bet the Dodgers would be up 2-0 with those two outstanding pitchers taking the hill for the Cardinals. Great outing from Kershaw. Unbelievably lucky win!

Pop / rock songs jazzified -- the best (and the worst)?

I already had the Fearless Leader box, so I went for the other two. Fifteen and eighteen bucks for Side Steps and Interplay, respectively. Great deals, thanks for the heads up!

He played a good psycho in Miami Blues, but I was just laughing my ass off watching the Schweddy Balls skit, and it's not like it's the first time I've seen it. Don't forget his SNL performances as the Boy Scout leader.

Herr Weizen would simply mesmerize them with a peak into his refrigerator which is always stocked with the finest of brews. It effectively disarms 99% of all org board members.

Let's have a contest. What would you have changed the text under Bixie's avatar to? I'm going to go with "Has Mancrush On Kenny Gorelick."

Well, that was an epic game. I have to admit I was pulling for the Tigers (wanted them to stave off the brutal choke), but congrats to all the Twinkie fans!

Unbelievable game!

JaMarcus Russell is making a run at all three of those guys for worst of all time.

The quarterback position is a really difficult one to judge. Those considered "the greatest" all have/had the team around them which enables/enabled them to perform. I was just discussing this on another board in another context, but a great example is looking at the performances of Kerry Collins and Matt Cassell on different teams. On the Raiders, Collins couldn't do much of anything but on the Titans he's able to maximize his abilities. On the Pats, Cassell looked like a Pro Bowl quarterback but on the Chiefs he doesn't look nearly as good. Brett Favre with protection on the Vikes looks great, Favre getting roughed up on the Jets deteriorates to mediocre. Looking across that list above, the superbowl winning quarterbacks on the list all had extremely well-balanced teams and great protection in the years they were able to win. To me the most impressive one on the list might be Marino, whose ability is unquestioned despite never winning the big game. Looking at someone like Joe Montana, who played big in big games and won when he was supposed to, a case could be made that his greatness is lessened to a degree because Steve Young was able to be plugged into that Niners system and perform at the top level as well. Both are great quarterbacks, but there's luck in getting selected by/playing for a great team and a winning situation. There's a similar situation in New England, where Tom Brady was replaced by Matt Cassell and Cassell looked outstanding in that situation too. So, there's a few variables--the QB's individual skills and clutch factor, and then the team around the QB which lets him play his best...

Installed the latest version of the eMusic Download Manager and it is in full freak out mode. It's stalling, every other download has errors, and I think I'm done with eMusic. -
Digression thread: Coherence is overrated

Hell yes. -
Bixie's political posts served only to antagonize others, not to spur meaningful discussion. He was a far right lunatic fringe troll of the lowest order.

Really fun listen, Joe. As the Bonus Track spins, I have only been able to identify the Hendrix cover "Up From The Skies" among the tunes but I don't know any of the artists. Amazing variety, and I really have no complaints about any of it. Thanks!

If someone with bad taste and idiotic political opinions wants to wear it like a badge of pride, let him/her.

I thought Baltimore had a shot at New England due to momentum/injuries. I should have changed that pick late last night like I had the inkling to. Didn't expect Miami to kick the snot out of Buffalo like that, and I thought Tennessee would man up and get in the win column, but should have known not to go against my boy the former UCLA Bruin Maurice Jones-Drew. Dallas looked mediocre as it was and really didn't need to be down to their third string running back. Glad I didn't watch the Raiders, I think I'll make a habit of it.

These are a few of my favorites which relate to this sort of music, but might be too beat-oriented for some of you. I'm a big fan of Kraftwerk and Art Of Noise (I love the Aphex Twin comp referenced earlier), and have delved into some Raymond Scott. I plan on checking out some of the other recs here to broaden my horizons. Just messin' with ya. To rephrase, the Dodgers will need some luck against the Cards, who come in rolling and have taken 5 of 7 from the Dodgers this year. Thanks for the congrats, anyway!
-
NL West Champs, baby. Bring on St. Louis, I've got a feeling lady luck's going to turn in our favor. Go Dodgers! I'm too busy basking in the postseason to worry about teams who are already on vacation.

Where did you read that, GA Russell? 100,000 years seems way too recent, and counters the way I would think evolution works. Cool article and fossil, Johnny E.
