  1. Thanks again to everyone for your suggestions. As I did in the distant past, I am making a Word document to reference on my computer when I go to buy something new. As I recall, in the previous thread way back on BNBB I had more Grover Washington, Jr. than Coltrane. Virtually all the jazz (and plenty of other music) on my current list is a testament to reading these boards and gaining knowledge from all you guys. MG--it's a 1996 Polygram compilation I bought from the Jazz Heritage Society music club, but it doesn't look like they carry it any more. Here's the track list: Disc One 1. Flying Home (1942) 2. Hamp's Boogie Woogie (1944) 3. Million Dollar Smile (1944) 4. Red Cross (1945) 5. Hamp's Blues (1945) 6. Evil Gal Blues (1945) 7. Flying Home (1945) 8. Stardust (1947) 9. Ribs & Hot Sauce (1945) 10. Blow Top Blues (1945) 11. Hey! Ba-Ba-Re-Bop (1945) 12. Rockin' In Rhythm Parts 1 & 2 (1946) 13. Limehouse Blues (1946) 14. Tempo's Birthday (1946) 15. Jack The Fox Boogie (1946) Disc Two 1. How High The Moon (1947) 2. Three Minutes On 52nd Street (1947) 3. Red Top (1947) 4. Mingus Fingers (1947) 5. Midnight Sun (1947) 6. Chicken Shack Boogie (1949) 7. Central Avenue Breakdown (1949) 8. Drinkin' Wine, Spo-Dee-O-Dee (1949) 9. Moonglow (1949) 10. The Hucklebuck (1949) 11. Lavender Coffin (1949) 12. Rag Mop (1949) 13. I Wish I Knew (1950) 14. There Will Never Be Another You (1950) 15. Pink Champagne (1950) 16. Memories Of You (1950) 17. Time On My Hands (1950) 18. Easy To Love (1950) 19. Twentieth Century Boogie (1950) 20. Dancing On The Ceiling (1963) 21. How High The Moon (1963)
  2. No, the list just needs some more editing. Thanks for catching that, MG. Much obliged for those recommendations, Bill.
  3. Any recommendations will suffice. This is where the real music loons hang, you know? I want blues recs, folk recs, alt recs, soul recs, funk recs...all of the above. I'm looking for that Organissimo/former Blue Note Board/music freak overview, nowhatImean?
  4. Thanks Agg, that's an awesome list.
  5. Thanks rockefeller center.
  6. Hehehe, perfect. Thanks Skid. I knew there would be some comments about that "other" stuff. What can I say? 80s pop is one of my weaknesses. It's my childhood. "Space Age Love Song," baby. I'm starting a new list with the recs. Freddie King Junior Parker Jimmy McCracklin Anson Funderburgh Sammy Myers Jelly Roll Morton (JSP Box/Birth Of The Hot) Louis Armstrong (JSP Box)
  7. I was laid off at the end of June '08, and I haven't been able to find a new gig. Went on several interviews, and I have resumes out all over the place. Best of luck to trane_fanatic, Shawn, and SS1 in your searches.
  8. I'm looking for any comments, Dan! Even just funny ones. Thanks for the suggestions. I do have a bit of Albert King and BB King on my list, and I have some individual tracks by Lowell Fulson. I'll have to check out those other guys.
  9. When I first joined the Blue Note BBS way back when, the first thread I ever made shared this same title. It basically had a list of my entire collection at that point, and many of you were quick to help me out with suggestions. If you click here you'll be directed to a page at my (updated) website where you can download an Excel spread sheet of my music collection. I'd love to receive suggestions from everybody for stuff I don't yet have, along with any comments or questions you might have about what I've got. Comments/suggestions/questions about my artwork are also welcome. Thanks y'all!
  10. It looked to me like McGriff might have had something funny to say there, Chris. I love the images, thanks again.
  11. You're forgetting to bold the occasional obscure name, dropped in a complexly insulting manner.
  12. This one begs for a caption contest.
  13. I just ordered the Dizzy Reece Mosaic Select. I'm excited to hear this one. Thanks to GA Russell, who awarded me a gift card for my lucky guess in his football pool.
  14. Effing double post, shit.
  15. Hey SS1, I have that comp. For me, the Miriam Makeba tune "Lumumba" made it worth keeping. Really cool groove on that one.
  16. Wow, I wonder if the rest of us will get it. I sure used that free code multiple times. I gave it to my mom to use too.
  17. I'll take Arizona, even though I think Pittsburgh will win. Go Cards. Total points 41.
  18. They don't have any archive that I'm aware of other than the analog masters. They probably still have the CD mother stamper somewhere in the pressing plant, but they don't have any kind of library of all the CDs they've ever made. say WHAT? Yeah, that does not make sense. They should have every format version in some sort of master. BUT this is the same company that can't find any tapes of the AEC masters made in 1969 and 1970. Did I ever mention I have tapes? I've been to the Capitol Records building and they have tons of extra cds in a room with shelves, including Mosaics. I wouldn't spend full price for a CD-R.
  19. Down the same path, don't miss out on early Kool & The Gang, The J.B.'s, Fred Wesley & The Horny Horns, Maceo & All The King's Men, WAR, The Crusaders, Ballin' Jack, The Beginning Of The End, Eddie Fisher, Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band, The Meters, Wild Tchoupitoulas, Magnum, The Sugarman Three, Stone Alliance, The Bo-Keys, LA Carnival, Ravi Harris & The Prophets, Marc Moulin, Azar Lawrence, Johnny Pate, some of those Isaac Hayes blaxploitation soundtracks (Three Tough Guys!), Jimmy Ponder, Serge Gainsbourg, David Axelrod, Leroy Hutson, The Bamboos, The Dynamites, Lee Fields, Lyman Woodard...
  20. Very glad to read it, Bruce.
  21. I just heard Organissimo on KKJZ 88.1 when I went to pick up some grub.
  22. Listening now, RT. It has a martial arts film feel to me, pretty cool! I might like it more even slower. Are you familiar with the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTsvs-pAGDc?
  23. It's tough to bet against the All Pennsylvania Bowl. I agree, Iggles vs. Stoolers.
  24. Yeah well can you blame them? I've always been a staunch Eli defender, even at his worst, but yesterday's loss falls on his shoulders. They knew that Philly would stack the line now that they don't have to worry about Plaxico, but they still had a decent running game and defense. All they needed was for Eli to step up a bit with his passing and especially on 3rd downs. Eli's lack of arm strength was really struggling with the wind, but I still think you've got to mix things up if you expect to make first downs and move the ball down the field. A defense as good as Philly's isn't going to let you run four downs in a row for ten yards--plus the Giants needed to score quickly, not grind out a drive... Go Cards.
