  1. It was enough to have me spring out of my chair and stand in a doorway. A noticeable, but brief rumble.
  2. Kwame has the worst hands of any big man in the game. He's nowhere near the basketball player Rasheed Wallace is. I'm baffled too, Bruce.
  3. The main difference is BB King is an artist first. He's selling the blues. Music is his top priority, and he knows when he plays the blues his best it will sell. The "vapid" types Conn is referring to are using music to sell an image. Music is secondary to appearance. The primary concern is making music which fits the image and doesn't distract from the image.
  4. It's a bit of a balancing act. The intentions of the artist must be focussed on creating the best artwork possible, which is what gives the artwork integrity--and also what can make it sell. So long as the "intentions" of the artist aren't used as an excuse to rip the artist off, then I agree to an extent that making money isn't the ultimate goal so much as achieving artistically.
  5. "Beale Street Blues" from Duke Ellington & Johnny Hodges Play The Blues Back To Back.
  6. My autographed copy arrived today, and I'm giving it its first spin. Sounds great, guys!
  7. All discs received today in excellent condition. Thanks Dan!
  8. I almost feel "targeted" by this thread seeing as so many of the recordings on the list are the type of music I like to collect. Good thing I already have them.
  9. Native Los Angelenos such as myself know all the shallow people are transplants from other states.
  10. Thanks for the article... ...and Happy Birthday, Marcel! Keep boppin'!
  11. My favorite was Aron's, which was in the same part of Hollywood and went out of business a few years after Amoeba arrived. Amoeba is such a zoo I tend to avoid it, but I can't knock their selection.
  12. eBay them and finance your next Nessa release?
  13. PM sent on the above. How much for the Art Farmer, Dan? Lucky you Noj, if you have not heard those Sonny Clarks and will be experiencing them for the first time! It will indeed be my first exposure to those Sonny Clark albums, up to this point I've only heard Cool Struttin', Dial S For Sonny, and the Grant Green Complete Quartets, all of which I REALLY like.
  14. I'd also be happy to help out in the way .:.impossible describes.
  15. When did Rick Mahorn stop beating his wife? Kidding, I thought it looked unintentional as well. Clippers landed Marcus Camby to replace Elton Brand, which is about as good as they could expect to do. Poor Clips.
  16. I don't imagine an ice bidet feels too swell on the ol' bunghole.
  17. First place in the worst division isn't exactly promising, Goodz. The Dodgers rarely give up a lot of runs, they've had a lot more trouble scoring them. However, the offense has surged since Mattingly took over as hitting coach. This team may yet go somewhere!
  18. Beautiful performance, Bruce.
  19. Wow, scary! I'm glad you're well enough to post and I wish your mother a swift and complete recovery.
  20. Cool deal, WD45! I ordered the following (also coming out to about six clams and change apiece). George Benson - I Got A Woman & Some Blues (Remastered) Kenny Burrell - A Night At The Vanguard (Remastered) Alice Coltrane - Universal Consciousness (Remastered) Pharoah Sanders - Elevation Nina Simone - Four Women: The Nina Simone Philips Recordings (4CD)
  21. More belated birthday salutations to the resident scientist!
  22. More belated birthday salutations, Tom!
  23. PM sent on the above. How much for the Art Farmer, Dan?
