States Mull Taxing Drivers By Mile
scottb replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Do you like fresh vegetables at the grocery? A nice choice of clothes at the mall? and yes... Jazz records shipped to your door? If you owned a store, would you want just the people within walkin distance to frequent it? The highway infrastructure is all our responsibility and benefit. -
What really strikes me as odd is that it has been released in Great Britain under the BASRA title. As it was stated before, it's the British troops that are in Basra for the most part. If the artist has a problem with the name now, why does it not bother him it's being released in Britain?

Did my good jazz deed for the day. I was seeing a guy at work today who plays piano. Studies classical piano at the University. One of these guys that's a natural, playing by ear anything he hears every since he was a kid. Plays at church, plays some jazz, mostly classical as I mentioned. Mentioned to him about Jimmy Smith's death, he had never heard of JOS! I promptly brought him into my office and played him a sample of The Champ off the internet. He is currently headed to the record store to pick up any Jimmy he can find. Unfortunately, he may not find any unless he happens into the mom and pop downtown. But the fire is lit! He said he has access to a B3 at church so I hope he catches the bug! The world can always use another B3 player.

That's what I was wondering. Is Blue Note gonna take a hit reprinting artwork and repackaging all these?

You ain't got yer hole dug yet? You're WAYYY behind! I been livin' out of my bunker since Ruby Ridge! My scream for Kevin earlier was not blaming him in any way for the change or the info about the release in the first place. I was calling him for help and additional info much like the Bat signal. And, like Batman, he has come through again with the info. Thanks Kevin.

Being somewhat of a purist, I would rather them just delay it's release instead of changing the title and artwork. Unless they are trying to create a collector's item that will sell on Ebay in ten years for $1 million!!!

I want this album Jim!! Get to work!! The showdown could be a three way with the Dr. and Joey D. if schedules permit. The horns MUST include a trombone and preferably Lou Donaldson an alto. HELL YEAH!!

cd storage for large collections
scottb replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The can-am option is really not that unreasonable. My father does a lot of woodworking / furniture making and we have discussed several options for CD storage. My current "wood shelves" unit was his creation. Recently, we discussed a chest of drawers design similar to the can-am units, only it would be made of wood and a bit more decorative. The hardware alone was going to run a couple hundred dollars and I think our cost estimates were somewhere around $500. -
This is the rationalization I use myself. Perhaps we see the same psychiatrist?

How does it make u feel when u start a thread...
scottb replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Forums Discussion
I usually take it as my question was so good no one knew the answer. i stumped the WHOLE BOARD and then dance around the room in glee. The thing that happens to me is a thread of 1000 replies will drop dead after I reply. I'm a THREADKILLER!! -
At first I thought this was a typo for SATAN but everyone knows Lucifer likes lots of vibrato so I figured you musta meant STAN.

I thought the comparison between DJs was a bit humerous. Ben Young: (this is a generalization) "That last album was Jimmy Smith with blah, blah, blah, recorded on blah, blah, blah, at a time when Jimmy was recording for Verve with big band arrangements by Oliver Nelson, etc, etc Student DJ : (I'll try to quote as directly as I can remember) "That was Jimmy Smith on organ backed by SOME HORNS, playing... soulfully." His commentary is a good example of the difference between accuracy and precision.

I'm pushing twenty but likely will take a jump after hearing some of the Verve issues on the tribute broadcast.

I'm back for more! PM'd you. I'm with Rooster, I've got plenty of extra cases and often they break in the mail anyway. I've even thought about shipping without the cases to save on shipping and you could throw in to a case on the other side.

It occurred to me that I have no appearances of JOS as a sideman. Did it ever happen or was he always THE BOSS?
-
ROOT DOWN and get it!!

I haven't heard a lot of these verve sides. I prefer the Blue Note stuff to the Dynamic Duo dates but THE CAT and BASHIN' are very hip. Such sweet sorrow, I'm certainly saddened by his departure but this broadcast has been terrific!
