  2. Streisand Announced First Live Tour In Decade October 4, 2006 12:18 a.m. EST Megan Shannon - All Headline News Staff Writer (AHN) - Barbara Streisand will hit the road for her first live tour in a decade -- something she said she would never do again. The Grammy winning singer and Oscar-winning actress will tour 16 cities and give 20 performances -- the biggest tour of her career. Not only is she expected to rake in $90 million from the tour she has also pledged about $10 million of the proceeds to her favorite charities, including $1 million to former President Bill Clinton's Climate Change Initiative. She also plans to donate to health and education charities. Ray Waddell of Billboard magazine said, "She's an icon It's kind of like the Super Bowl of concerts, particularly for her fans. You don't get a lot of chances of see Barbra Streisand live. She doesn't tour very frequently at all, and when she does, it's a limited engagement." And fans are willing to pay the price for what could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Average ticket prices for her concert is $275 but individual seats can cost nearly $800. Seats for her last tour in 1993-94 sold as high as $350. The tour brought in $60 million gross. Gary Bongiovanni, editor of concert trade publication Pollstar said, "It could be that her core fans who looked at her tour in '94 and again in 2000 as ... the chance of a lifetime to see her have opened their wallets and done it once and aren't as ready to do it again." http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7005063125

    Albert Ayler

This morning I've listened to Witches and Devils. Beatiful music and one of Ayler's best, IMHO.
  7. In general I agree with you that Miller sounds better when he's not the leader. I think everything he recorded for Landmark worth listening. Another one which is a favorite of mine is *With Our Own Eyes*, a trio session with bassist Richie Good & drummer Tony Reedus. I had the pleasure to see Miller more than 10 years ago. He came to play at the Red Sea Jazz Festival with Benny Golson and Curtis Fuller. It was a memorable experience.
  8. The more I listen to Freddie Redd, the more I'm convinced its pity his recordings are sparse. The man is a killer pianist and composer. On Everybody Loves a Winner he plays with the great Teddy Edwards and with trombonist Phil Ranelin. One of the best CDs I've recently listened to.
  9. No. Judy Garland died on June 1969. She was 47.
  10. Dame Julie Andrews is to be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Screen Actors Guild, the US actors group said Tuesday. Andrews, 70, came to worldwide attention as the star of Mary Poppins, for which she won an Oscar in 1964 and followed by a starring role in The Sound of Music. More recently she appeared in The Princess Diaries and voiced the role of the queen in Shrek 2. “Julie Andrews is a woman of great generosity, creativity, courage, elegance and wit,” said SAG president Alan Rosenberg in a statement. “She embodies and transcends the memorable roles she has created.” The actress, who has been married to director Blake Edwards for 37 years, was named as a Dame of the British Empire in 1999 and is a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Development Fund for Women. http://www.ecanadanow.com/entertainment/20...ievement-award/
