  1. Dame Julie Andrews is to be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Screen Actors Guild, the US actors group said Tuesday. Andrews, 70, came to worldwide attention as the star of Mary Poppins, for which she won an Oscar in 1964 and followed by a starring role in The Sound of Music. More recently she appeared in The Princess Diaries and voiced the role of the queen in Shrek 2. “Julie Andrews is a woman of great generosity, creativity, courage, elegance and wit,” said SAG president Alan Rosenberg in a statement. “She embodies and transcends the memorable roles she has created.” The actress, who has been married to director Blake Edwards for 37 years, was named as a Dame of the British Empire in 1999 and is a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Development Fund for Women. http://www.ecanadanow.com/entertainment/20...ievement-award/

  17. Dear friends, I'm going to be in Chicago for 3 days in October (14-17). On October 14 I plan to go to Andy's Jazz Club to see and listen to Von Freeman and his quintet. Last time I saw Mr. Freeman was app 15 years ago in Tel-Aviv and I have very good memories from this concert. Any idea who are the members of his quintet??? And do you know what's going on in the Velvet Lounge? When Fred Anderson closed his iconic Velvet Lounge jazz club last April, he vowed it would return somewhere, sometime. Is it still closed or it was opened in another location??? Anyway, I hope someone might have some recommendations for interesting local jazz clubs or artists playing in Chicago on October 15 & 16. Thank you in advance.
  18. I wish you all the best, akanalog, and a speedy recovery to your dad. I hope your dog will continue to enjoy his life.
