I bought the cd and I've listened to it 3 times already.Great music! It sounds a bootleg though but it's a mighty fine album. No need to sell it at ebay.com...
-
Thanks for the reply.Since it costs only 7 Euros+shipping I'm going to buy it anyway. If I don't like it I can always offer it to someone on this board or sell it at ebay.com

http://www.huuto.net/fi/showitem.php3?itemid=17775351 Take a look at the link above. www.huuto.net is a Finnish equivalent to Ebay and I'd like to know if that cd is a good one or just a waste of money?

www.ayler.com Steve Lacy: One Fell Swoop, 5X Monk 5X lacy It was a pleasure to deal with Jan Ström since he replied to my email really fast and sent me the cds immediately he had received the payment via Paypal. I got the cds yesterday

I listened to its sound samples at amazon.com and I'm not sure if I want to have the box set.It sounds interesting BUT there were some tracks that I'd most likely like to skip. I just love his duet albums with Mal Waldron (I have most of them) and his trio albums such as The Rent (I could play that one forever!).When it comes to his Hathut albums there is no better introduction to his music than his duet with Mal on Dreder set (4cd-set). Now I just have to hunt those all those missing Soul Note and Hathut albums. *sigh*

DVD: Charles Mingus: Live At Montreux 1975 I love it!
-
I don't believe that one's readily available. If I'm wrong, please correct me as I too would like to find a copy. (Last ordered this one from Forced Exposure and got skunked.) I don't know where to find this one either Chaney! I've seen it on a couple of sites but apparently it's OOP at the moment. I was about to order it but since it's obviously quite hard to get I may have to postpone my order.

I've been thinking about buying his 3-cd set "Scrathing the 70s" on Saravah label. Is is any good? I'm not a big fan of Irene though..

How difficult is it to learn another language?
Swinger replied to a topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Che! Finnish is a difficult language to learn but I know at least 4 Brits who master Finnish quite well.I see those persons occasionally and we we usually talk in Finnish and when they can't find the rights words we switch to English. They are all in their late 30s and they can handle Finnish quite well in situations such as buying a ticket in a railway station, communicating with a waiter in a restaurant and speaking on a general topics such as politics and weather. Don't give up! You can always send me a PM if you need some help with translation from Finnish to English and vice versa. -
If you could see one PKD novel filmed right
Swinger replied to nmorin's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I would like to see The Man Whose Teeth and all of his other mainstream novels filmed. His mainstream novels are all alike but I really like them. If only I could find his his mainstream novels that are missing from my collection for reasonable price (In Milton Lumky Territory,The Man Whose Teeth,Broken Bubble and Humpty Dumpty In Oakland). My father bought over 90% of his novels in the 80s (he's a PKD nut as well) but he couldn't find those mainstream novels mentioned before just because they were sold out already. I recall they published only 3000 copies of The Man Whose Teeth for example back in the 80s.They must have gone really fast. -
Oh yeah! Thanks for letting us know Daniel A!

About a year til A Scanner Darkly
Swinger replied to jazzbo's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'm a PKD nut and I'm eagerly waiting for the movie to be released in September. I downloaded the trailer and watched it through. It didn't convince me to watch the movie but since I'm a PKD nut (Am I repeating myself around here?) I want to see it. I've read A Scanner Darkly 3 times through and I want to see how well Keanu can play Arctor. Anyway...only 6 months to go... -

It's worthwhile to check out all of the Finnish Blue Note releases. They're released under EMI, but at the moment I don't know of any sites that would sell them worldwide. - Jukka Perko, Severi Pyysalo & Teemu Viinikainen: "Kuunnelmia" (2004) - Jukka Perko: "Music Of Olavi Virta" (2000) - U-Street All Stars: "Bowling" (2004) and "Helsinki Sessions" (2002) - Trio Töykeät: "High Standards" (2003) - Severi Pyysalo & Antti Sarpila: "New Moods, New Sounds" (2001) Some selections from Fiasko Records: - Kari Ikonen: "Karikko" (2001) - Gnomus' releases - Gourmet's releases. For more electric taste, these two are also worth checking out, essential and influential in the so called "nu-jazz" scene. Dusty Groove has both. - Nuspirit Helsinki: "Nuspirit Helsinki" (2002, Guidance Records) - Teddy Rok Seven: "Universal Four" (2004) ... The FIMIC website has some basic info. ... Here's a few artists I recommend: - Jukka Perko (alto sax) - Eero Koivistoinen (tenor sax) - Teppo Mäkynen (drums) - Severi Pyysalo (vibes) - Jarmo Savolainen (piano) - Jukkis Uotila (drums & piano) - Mikko Innanen (various reeds) Those Finnish Blue Note cds are sold at www.ariman.fi I checked the prices for those cds: Kuunnelmia: 19.50 Euros Olavi Virta: 11.20 Euros Bowling: 11.20 Euros High Standards: 11.20 Euros New Moods: 11.20 Euros They can be contacted at myynti@ariman.fi . They accept VISA,Mastercard and other major credit cards. Some personal thoughts on one Fiasko Records cd. This one is great! http://www.fiaskorecords.com/records/FRCD-19.en.php I heard this about a week ago when they had a gig in my hometown. What a show.Esa Onttonen has composed several songs on that cd and they remind me of Mingus' "Tijuana Moods". Esa is the one who maintains http://webusers.siba.fi/~eonttone/mingus/ . He's a real Mingus freak.I've discussed with him briefly on couple of occasions and he is a walking library when it comes to Mingus, his recordings and life in general. Oh yeah..there are sound clips of Gourmet available at: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/gourmet2

Che: I don't know where you live but if you happen to live in the EU,you can order Reflections at http://www.cdon.com/ If you are looking for Mother Tongue and you are living in the USA, you can order it at Downtown Music Gallery: http://www.dtmgallery.com/Main/index.htm http://search2.downtownmusicgallery.com/Se...cgi?s3.aaltonen
-
As Kari S said, you should also get Mother Tongue (another Finn here?) .Superb playing. I have both of those cds and I've been playing them *several* times in the past 12 months. I've also listened to several other Tum Records cds and while they sound great, those two mentioned above really stand out. Tum Records is a Finnish equivalent to HatHut/ECM---> they release some really high quality music but they are definitely not to everyone's taste.

Wonderful pictures,well-designed site.

Ah! It's finally coming. I talked about this upcoming set with Matthew Shipp in last July when he performend at the local jazz festival.I had a chance to meet him briefly and I asked him about his upcoming new releases. Goodbye money...

Bev: I listened to some excerpts of Amaryllis at amazon.com a week ago and I got hooked.Really magical stuff! I'm definitely going to purchase it sooner or later.
-
Howard Riley: The Day Will Come,Angle I decided to make a "radical" decision and to buy those two cds without knowing what kind of music I'm going to hear.Am I going to hear structured music with improvisations or something between mainstream& Avant-Garde jazz?
-
I just placed an order for the following cds at cdon.com Ornette Coleman: At The Golden Circle Vol 1 &2,Tomorrow Is The Question,Something Else Howard Riley: The Day Will Come,Angle ( 2x 5.95 Euros, not a great loss if I don't like those cds) Horace Silver: Song For My Father Archie Shepp: Four For Trane Jan Garbarek: Witchi-tai-to (I just LOVE this cd!) John Coltrane: Live At Village Vanguad Again Jimmy Giuffre: Free Fall
-
Happy birthday Herbie. I really fell in love with his music about 2 years when I borrowed his Blue Note box set from a local library.I bought my copy of it about a year ago and I have played those 3 cds back and forth endlessly. Those songs have a special place in my heart when I listen to them around 9pm-->midnight.
-
Couw: I got my box set yesterday and I saw the K2 label on it. I had only enough time to listen to 2-3 tracks and they sounded FINE to me!
-
Mikeweil: Since i'm very impatient, could you tell me something about the sound quality in that box set. Are those 3 cds equivalent to any K2 mastered cds?
