Thanks for all the work, Flurin - a really enjoyable and interesting BFT disc.

Yet another cover picture from eBay, so now only thirty to find.
-
Because some albums have been cut from the discography on the grounds that they are probably not jazz and also because at least one new cover picture is on the way I hope, the looking for list has now reduced to a mere thirty one. See below for up-to-date list. So on your travels, please do keep an eye open for any hint of pictures relating to the above. Still making slow but encouraging progress.

Rooster's official "BFT #25" sign-up thread
tooter replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Blindfold Test
Include me too please, Rooster. PM will be sent forthwith. Woody sounds goody. -
So it was Golson on 11! I'm listening again now - yes, there's a Golson trade mark - now I know it's him I can hear them. The pianist - Kenny Drew? Could the bassist be NHOP?
-
1. No ideas. Can’t even think of the name of the tune. 2. - 3. Sunny Side of the Street – don’t know. 4. Heard the tune before but …. No guesses. 5. Very atmospheric – don’t like this too much. Clarinet sounds weak. 6. Basin Street – no clues. 7. Mood Indigo – blank for any guesses. 8. Blood Count. Like this one. The players? - nobody comes to mind. 9. Blues – can’t guess anything but I liked the track. 10. Fly Me to the Moon – nobody sounds at all familiar. Getting stuck in a rut here. 11. Whisper Not again – tenor sounds a bit like the composer but don’t think it is. Best track for me. 12. Body and Soul – no names still but I like this one too. 13. – 14. Ja-Da – the end already and no names at all I can put forward. Lots of variety and points of interest but too difficult to guess anyone for the likes of me. At least I can now read comments to get some ideas.

1. Old Folks, I think – lovely tune. Lovely playing too – I like the pianist even if I haven’t a clue who it is, or the tenor. 2. Nice – that exuberance! Contrasts well with 1. No guesses. 3. At this stage I thought I would have no chance of guessing anything because all would be from earlier eras than I usually listen to. No thoughts about who here either but it went down well. 4. I’m in the Mood for Love, clearly. Masterly. Again I liked the piano backing. 5. Heard the tune before but can’t think of the name. Sounds boppish but not the solos or the rhythm. 6. This tune immediately reminded me of Donald Byrd and Pepper Adams. I think it’s called 6 m’s – a blues - written by Donald Byrd. I don’t think it’s him on trumpet though and I can’t guess any of the others. Very enjoyable though – has much the same feel in the tune as on the Adams/Byrd album I know. 7. The only singer I know who sounds anything like this is Karin Krog. Wild guess. Like the voice anyway, and the style. 8. Whisper Not – not in any doubt about that. One of my best ten tunes. Benny Golson – marvelous composer. These are instruments I don’t listen to much but I would say at least one of them is an accordion but is the other a harmonica? So Toots? Good dynamics – I thought it was fading out but thankfully not. 9. Can’t think of the name of the tune and neither does it suggest anyone to me. Pleasant track. Stuck. 10. Can’t say anything much about this one – no clue. Not into this music. 11. More “accessible”. Strange tune – bits of it are very familiar but not the whole. Is this plagiarism? Don’t think the players are known to me. 12. This one goes beyond me too. 13. And this one. 14. I like this track but don’t know what or who. 15. Here is a French horn I think so I would guess at Julius Watkins. Bass clarinet too – always like the sound. Very enjoyable music. 16. At first I was sure I would not like this but as I listened it became more attractive – interplay. Only a very wild guess – Kenny Wheeler? 17. The kind of guitar playing that I go for is Burrell, Kessel, Pass, etc. Those who play more elongated notes, languid I call them, I avoid if I can. Not that this one is as bad as some but NMCOT for sure. Thanks for a very enjoyable disc, Ubu – some parts don’t suit me but that’s always the case and they are more than balanced out. Not any real chance of a correct guess here – wonder if disc 2 will be better for me.

And thanks also to Couw for the picture, which was far better than my effort to scan the cover

Thanks to Sidewinder , I now have another album including Ronnie Ross and it has been included in the discography at our site ronnieross.com. Picture has been put up too but this does not reduce the total still sought of course because it was previously completely unknown to me. Hoping everybody will be keeping an eye open like the alert Sidewinder. Thanks a lot.
-
I can't find anything at eBay, only one reference at a Japanese site from Google. Tell me more please, Sidewinder. Do you have the album then? Can I get the details - personnel, tracks, etc? A straight picture of the cover would be very welcome too.
-
No, Sidewinder, haven't heard of that one. I will look into it. From the picture looks like an eBay item. Thanks a lot - good going!
-
Thanks, Couw. Even to my inexpert eye I can detect some difference I think. Will replace at the site www.ronnieross.com.
-
So here's my up-to-date list again, now only thirty four List removed as superseded.
-
Got another cover picture today. The long awaited Don Rendell Quintet which is for sale on eBay now.
-
Thank you, Your Majesty! Discs have arrived. Over half way through 1 already - enjoying this immensely. Decidedly ecletic.
-
Happy birthday.
-
Happy Birthday Al.

It appears that you may have transposed your guesses for tracks 9 and 10. At least I hope so... Mmmm... perhaps the inconnect has a built in delay mechanism but that's no excuse.
-
Bingo! Go ahead and trust your ears as to the G-G-uitarist on tracks 4 and 12. B-) Too bad it took awhile for your discs to be delivered, tooter, but it's great that you still participated. And I was not even the last one, to my surprise. I like to put my bit in early, if not first, on the basis that if I'm going to make a fool of myself by the time it all comes to and end everybody will have forgotten. It's not so much my ears that fail me but my memory, Jim. Do ears have a separate memory device all of their own, probably working in both ears rather than independently ? Thanks for the encouragement - at least I got one right that I know of so will persevere. Just have to get a new interconnect between ears and brain Late delivery - one sending went missing entirely this time - is something suffered by everybody at some time or another I guess. All recipients are aware of the enormous effort required to produce a BFT, even those of us who haven't done it yet, so not to give it one's best shot would be a disgrace I think. Long live the BFT - it's great fun and thanks to those who thought it up.

Tail end Charlie here again. Don’t suppose there will be anybody reading this now the party’s just about over but I will have a go anyway. 1. These players do not sound familiar. I like the track although it’s not my usual listening. No guess as to the tune even. 2. Similar to 1. in that the same comments apply but much different music. Didn’t like this as much as 1. though. 3. Vibes make an appearance again, which is good. Still no ideas as to who or what. 4. I tend the avoid the organ as much as I can – just don’t like the sound, which I once heard described by a musician I respected as “an electronic stomach”. They still had one in the band though. But I’m sure I know this guitar player – sh.. – failure to conjure up a name yet again. 5. Organ again – still singing the same tune. 6. “Memories of You” – no revelations here for me either. 7. Don’t know the tune. Piano leads off so may be the leader of the session. Sounded a little Silverish sometimes. The trumpet sounds like Donald Byrd to me but not sure. However, the alto I would say is McLean – the last time he was on a BFT I said James Spaulding so this is probably Spaulding. There, I’ve got two choices now! 8. No idea – nice track. 9. At last – a name I can try. Herbie Nichols. Sounds very like him to me – if it isn’t I will probably retire from BFT’s 10. Don’t know any organists – could be anybody for all I know. I think the guitarist might be Grant Green though. 11. Woody Shaw – “The Moontrane”. Very nice too. Everybody got that. 12. Samba de Orpheu – Bonfa. Think I should know the guitarist but doesn’t strike a chord still. 13. Is that a Jews harp in there? Just a wild guess that it might be Tom Harrell. Certain I’m wrong. So at last I can read the comments and see if I’ve got anything right. I don’t even know if the answers have been posted yet. Thanks a lot .:. for two demanding and stimulating discs to audition – worth the wait, certainly.
-
Can’t even give much in the way of guesses but at least I can have a look straight away after I’ve posted this to see what the answers should have been – no waiting. Not looking at anything – previous comments, AMG or anywhere. 1. Know this tune well but not the version here. “Bebop” or “Dizzys Fingers”. No guesses at who the players are, although that last arpeggio on the vibes sounds quite familiar. Just can’t pin it down though. 2. Know the tune here too – “Green Chimneys” by Monk. Is it him playing it? 3. Another Monk tune – “Ask Me Now”. Definitely no chance of names here – bass clarinet. No clue. 4. Drum solo – leaves me unmoved I’m afraid. No ideas. 5. Liked this much better. Can’t guess at it though. 6. No idea who is playing again. The tune is hauntingly familiar but so distorted that I can’t say what it is. 7. Weird – ethereal – intriguing, but I have no guesses yet again. 8. Like this one. Front line people don’t sound like I’ve heard before. 9. Don’t know the tune. I love the vibes as a jazz instrument but I still can’t put a name forward here. I thought for a while that the guitarist sounded like someone I know but then changed my mind. No guesses again. 10. Blues – plenty of vibes – good. Scratching about for at least one guess – could it be Jay Hoggard with Kenny Burrell? Doesn’t sound like the latter. 11. Another blues. Nice track but no clues. 12. So slow – takes some doing I should think. Didn’t like this one too much. 13. At least I know the tune – “I Should Care”. Interesting but still… 14. “Round Midnight” of course – I don’t know anyone here. Don’t think the trumpet on the intro is familiar. 15. No bells here either – can’t pick out the tune even. Quite like it though. 16. Blues with organ – still at a loss. So that’s all I can come up with. Hope I do better on disc 2. Plenty I like in this one however. Thanks for an interesting listen. Onward…

They came - thanks, .:.impossible. Arrived on Friday and I've been working on my modest contributions to the discussions since then. Will post soon I hope.
-
Happy Birthday, NOJ, and many more to come. All the best.
-
Tune two is confirmed as Sugar Plum. Thanks again both Daniel and Couw. I will note at my site. Still hoping someone will know the other two. Both sound familiar to me.
-
Thanks, Couw, but I just got blank pages for some reason. Something weird going on.
