Kicking myself for not having seen this. No DVD in our household yet, Sidewinder, unfortunately. Well behind the times Could it be though that the BBC4 programme is going to include the same material I wonder.

Paul - welcome! Cleopatra's Needle has been mentioned before as being worthy of re-issue on CD and the Giles Peterson compilation engendered a number of favourable comments for including the title track. Are you still in touch with your friend who was Ronnie's secretary? Would she be willing/able to help with our website www.ronnieross.com in any way do you think? Perhaps she might even have gig diaries or something like that? Or just be willing to share her memories?

Thanks to all for the above re One World Jazz. I did have the numbers for both Columbia and Philips. Both the new pictures are now on the site and looking good.

Friday 4 February JAZZ 625 Friday 4 February 9pm-10pm; 2.40am-3.40am; Tuesday 8 February 11pm-midnight Performances by some of the stalwarts of British jazz including John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, Victor Feldman featuring Ronnie Scott, The Tubby Hayes Big Band, The Johnny Scott Quartet, Annie Ross with the Tony Kinsey Quintet and Bill Le Sage's Directions in Jazz. This one? I will have to look into how to get it. Something I haven't tried yet. Pity it looks as if it might be quite short though, but anything's better than nothing. I wonder if each hourly session is simply a repeat.

Sidewinder - Should have looked myself first - found it easily enough - LK4087. Thanks for the tip about the Beeb - I haven't found that place yet. Will do a search but may come back to you if I get lost . Sounds very interesting.

Give him the money, Barney! All I have is a picture of the Jasmine CD. What you've now given me is the original LP cover by the looks of it. Brilliant! Do you have the LP, Sidewinder? The only thing I am missing is the Decca number. But it is already on the site anyway, above the Jasmine which looks a little dull in comparison. Many thanks again.

Another picture has been found, this time by my good friend Jazzman4133. I had a picture of the EP version which appears to have only one of the tracks on this one, the LP. Both pictures are now displayed on the Ronnie Ross site - same cover but EP has tracks listed on the front. Total still sought remains the same - thirty six - but progress is being made. Good find, Jazzman4133 - thank you!

Welcome aboard! The trouble is there is not an awful lot readily available but there are some albums. You should be able to obtain "Introducing Tony Kinsey/Jazz at the Flamingo" fairly easily and a place in Germany (?)called "Wewerka" has "Unforgettable Ronnie Ross" and "Night Bounce" on offer I think. PM me if you have no luck or would like more. If you can find some pictures I'm looking for....

Another picture, from Sidewinder this time, posted on the "Cover Scan Question" thread but I'm putting it here for convenience and so that it can be admired by all. I already had a version but this is much better and is on our website www.ronnieross.com now. Thanks to Sidewinder.
  10. Yes, a better picture, Sidewinder. Thanks a lot. It's on the site now. Posting at other thread too.
  11. Going back to the question of electric storms, I suffered once with a burnt out computer. Harddrive, CPU, almost everything, but insurance paid. However, I'm now supposed to be fully protected with a Surgemaster II power strip from which sprout umpteen power cables, antennaes and phone wires. Never been tested yet. Does anyone know how effective these things are? Can they be relied upon? I switch everything off when not in use for a few hours. Don't like the noise of the fan in the computer all the time and ever since I tried to download a huge file and left it unattended for a lengthy period - came back to find the harddrive kaput. So I'm superstitious about it now and "supervise" everything.
  12. Happy birthday - a beautiful day too.
  13. Thanks, Sidewinder. Yes, I do have that LP and a picture at our site but it may be that yours is a better one. I will compare later. I have transferred this aspect of this thread to the Ronnie Ross thread in the Artists Forum as I thought that was more appropriate but either location will do of course. Still looking... See my list of sought album covers pictures in the other thread.
  14. First of all, thanks for the great fun this disc brings me every time I spin it! But I do have a few questions: 1) Where is Oscar credited as the leader of this date? Or is this just an assumption of yours? Crow eaten here: I was going strictly by memory as far as the leadership goes. I made a CDR of this track from the library’s copy of the Coltrane Bethlehem disc. For some reason, the Blakey sessions didn’t do that much for me. In fact, this was the only song of that whole set I really dug. Anyway, I could’ve swore it said “The Oscar Pettiford All-Stars.” If it didn’t, then it must be a band-name I dreamt up just to give the track an artist name on my disc! Does this throw any light on the matter?
  15. George is on four of the eight tracks on this one, with Jon and J R Monterose. Nice stuff - listening to it now. The other pianist is Pete Jolly so he's in good company on the album.
  16. Nobody else yet? I will get my little bit in first then. At first hearing I thought there were a lot of things I didn’t much care for but when I listened the second time, properly, with both ears, I found a lot I liked. 1. This one is clearly well known to someone but I am not familiar with it. It sounds like Duke Pearson with James Spaulding and perhaps Donald Byrd. Can’t think who the trombonist might be though. I like this kind of music but in small doses. Don’t know the tune at all. 2. Moanin’ – don’t know the organist but it sounds like Lee Morgan on trumpet. The tune is almost hackneyed now I suppose but I always enjoy it still. I didn’t like the organ solo very much and the trumpet solo didn’t do much for me either. 3. More funk – what is that tune? Just can’t remember the name and yet I have heard it many times I know. Silverish? If I can’t remember the name of the tune I try to think of the name of the player it reminds me of but the trick won’t work in this case. 4. No idea – tune is familiar but no name. 5. Sounds like movie music – no guesses. 6. ditto 5. 7. Quite exciting but not really my kind of thing. I’ve never been keen on voices intruding, which is the way it seems to me. 8. NMCOT . 9. Blues - no guesses, but I enjoyed it moderately. 10. Very evocative – laid on a bit thick. No idea who or what. 11. I seem to remember this – British voice but I didn’t take much notice of it at the time so can’t identify anyone. Poetry and jazz pass me by. 12. Funk - blues – must fall back on NMCOT again. 13. Funk yet again – sounds like Ahmad Jamal I think. 14. Work Song – as the harmonica is an organ of the mouth variety, I rarely listen to anything which features it. Toots only on guitar for me. No guesses. 15. Funk – brings Comin’ Home Baby to mind. Can’t identify the trumpet player. 16. Willow Weep for Me. Nice track. I wish I could think who it might be. 17. America the Beautiful. I liked this one. Can’t identify anyone though. 18. Bounces along nicely – no guesses. 19. Country music? Not familiar at all. Small doses again. 20. Where or When – don’t listen to this kind of thing nowadays – no clue. 21. Avant garde – can’t say anything sensible about this. Not much of a contribution I’m afraid, Dana. I do everything by just listening rather than looking it up anywhere, which I find too laborious anyway. If it turns out I’ve got just one guess right I shall be pleased and not a little surprised. Now bring on the experts!
  17. no other takers in the UK yet I will have to fly the flag as best I can.

So this is my up-to-date list of album cover pictures not yet obtained. If any kind folk happen to see copies on their travels around the web, or gets even a sniff of where any might be available, I will be very pleased indeed to hear from them and follow it up. Many thanks to those who have helped so far. List removed as superseded.

One more found and this does reduce total now sought to only thirty six.

Another picture found on the web, although this is an earlier issue of one we had already - Big Band Explosion - so does not reduce the total still sought which remains at thirty seven.
  21. Happy Birthday!
  22. I have just got the JMY Cote Blues CD and was puzzled to hear the first tune as So What rather than All Blues as stated. The last tune is also So What again but a different version. Everywhere I look, All Blues is stated as the first track. Timing given is right, just the name of the tune wrong. Have I got a rogue copy or is this a mistake nobody has noticed?

Yet another new picture - from your source, Jim. Much better than the one I had so I have replaced it.
  24. Any takers in the UK? Email/PM me - I don't mind which.
  25. Happy birthday!
