  1. As far as I know the son (?) of Aldo Sinesio still owns the catalog, was planning to reissue things but that looks like it fell apart. Considering the depth of the catalog it is surprising to me that nothing has been really reissued. Two proposed Horo albums have been or are going to be issued: Milo Fine (Emanem) and Dave Burrell/Sam Woodyard (NoBusiness). But those never came out in the first place, and I gather that the tapes came from the artists.
  2. India Navigation: rights reverted to the artists after the label dissolved. Not sure what happened with the tapes.
  3. Because you can't download a wooden box!
  4. awesome record, have the original vinyl (although like a lot of my rock LPs it is in temporary storage).
  5. I have the Unicorn edition as well. Great!
  6. cool! I used to have the original of this but sold it to generate some needed cash when I moved. Haven't been able to replace it yet, and would be all right with a finely done reissue.
  7. I believe so? Sad news. I had read that he'd been ailing since late last year. Either way, awful news. RIP.
  8. congrats! This is one of my faves as well.
  9. I was only at the final night's performance (Karen Borca-led big band), but that was excellent.
  10. I am pretty sure I saw him and yet cannot recall the exact circumstances either.
  11. John Fahey -- Requia -- (Vanguard, 70s pressing)
  12. Awful. Goddamn. RIP.
  13. Seems like they definitely missed some titles with these more recent bootlegs -- neither Coursil's Black Suite nor the Arthur Jones have been reissued (although the latter did get rereleased by P-Vine in Japan some years back). Maybe it's because they were snapped up by Musidisc/America?
  14. Yep. No lip at all, barely any lead-in groove. I obviously dig rawness too but since the issue of 'fidelity' came up...
  15. Yeah, I'd heard that. I can't imagine it happening but then again I wasn't thinking a pandemic would hit this year either.
  16. Indeed. In terms of audio quality, I'd argue that some of the best sounding BYGs aren't jazz releases.
  17. not ideal, no.
  18. as to the original article, that's just horrible. Fuck.
  19. Not a mastering engineer, but I suppose it depends on how good the transfer & remastering is. If it is indeed true that the tapes are long gone, these are probably done from MP3s ripped from other reissue copies. For what it is worth I have only owned original Actuel pressings (other than the Sunspots CD of Seasons) and they are extremely variable in sound quality.
  20. Scorpio is a bootleg operation out of New Jersey with massive distribution and reach. They've done everything from Sun Ra Saturns to Blue Notes and Atlantics. Truly shameless. I have seen the records you mention in stores and they aren't Get Back bootlegs. Scorpio is a likely culprit since they're so plentiful around the US. I'm sure they are needle drops from Get Back reissues, whatever they are. Pirate editions are worth avoiding if you can (even if BYG didn't pay the musicians either).
  21. Scorpio boots most likely.
