  1. I assume that I***e pulled it? The thing is, she keeps thinking she should do these archival issues herself, but then has no money nor bandwidth to do them. So she's out potential royalties and we don't get to hear the music. Of course, it's her right, but it seems like a bad way of doing business - especially when someone like Martin Davidson is there to do things more or less "above board." I don't think that you get to complain about bootlegs and file sharing when you refuse to have the stuff in your (or others') possession released.
  2. Sorry to have come to this thread so late and sorry to hear about your health struggles, Jazzmoose. Take care of yourself.
  3. Same here. He gave me a huge artist's proof litho that hangs above my bed. I always go to sleep hoping that it's permeating my brain somehow.
  4. Trumpeter, composer, painter and educator Bill Dixon was born on this day in 1925 (he passed in 2010). I got to know him fairly well over the course of two separate articles and interviews, the second of which involved staying in Bennington for a week in advance of his Firehouse12 recordings. Certainly a significant influence on my thinking about this music, I owe him a lot and think about him often. Happy Birthday, Bill.
  5. Yeah, Telemusik/Mixture is good. I have it in one of those DGG "avant-garde" LP boxed sets. Now: Free Jazz Group Wiesbaden - Frictions Now - (LST, Ger orig)
  6. The party is at the senior citizens social club in Macclesfield, I assume? Hahaha !
  7. Gordon Beck - Experiments with Pops - (Odeon Japan) I've been asked to DJ a party tomorrow. We will see how this goes....
  8. Bobby Hutcherson - Inner Glow - (BN King Japanese orig)
  9. Terumasa Hino - Alone, Alone & Alone - (Columbia/Tact, 2nd Japanese issue)
  10. You mean Waldron's unreleased "Candy Girl" album with members of the Lafayette Afro Rock Band ? I didn't know Mal didn't play on it. Still would love to find a copy (there are promo's). At that time, the Calumet label was distributed by Discodis, not by Jaubert's Musidisc (see the back cover of "Church Number Nine"). On the other hand, music from the same session (a track also called "Church number nine") was released on Noah Howard's "Space Dimension", which was released some time earlier on the America label (part of Musidisc) and produced by Jaubert. It's always a bit complex in France... Yeah, that's the Waldron I'm referring to. I've got a couple of America LPs that have Discodis logos too. Weird. It's all a mess indeed. Agreed, that track was also included on the Japanese Odeon LP "Church Number Nine" and I'm pretty sure it was all from the same recording session.
  11. I always figured it was a way to fudge sales and/or losses.
  12. Georges Arvanitas, Jacky Samson and Charles Saudrais... though I guess most of their recorded work is from the '70s, part of In Concert (Futura) is from '69.
  13. I used to think Calumet was a private label too, but it's a Pierre Berjot/Jaubert (take your pick) imprint. All of those labels - Carson, America, etc. - shared artists and releases and were manufactured and distributed by Musidisc. As near as I can tell, he was the dude running the show and didn't seem to be paying anybody either.
  14. I have an original of that Frank Wright - excellent album. I recall it being a pretty loud pressing. The new Calumet reissue is a bootleg; Calumet was a subsidiary of Musidisc France, which also owned the America label. Their catalog was pretty small, with a handful of blues titles and a library funk title spotlighting the music of Mal Waldron (although Mal doesn't play on it).
  15. You're right - bizarrely, it seems never to have been on CD, not even in Japan. Been a while since I gave it a spin but found it very enjoyable on numerous past occasions.
  16. It's a cool record. I'd check it out at least.
  17. Great rhythm section, of course, but Woods more than holds his own. I've told my story 'bout playing his Warm Woods LP in the Electric Fetus before haven't I? I'm not sure but I'd love to hear the story. RIP, maestro, and thank you. Not sure about the rhythm section`s greatness or the "Maestro holding his own" ? Not sure if I've heard story about Warm Woods and the Electric Fetus record store.
  18. The Bley trios indeed ditto on Lowell Davidson and Don Friedman ditto on Howard Riley; I'd also add his first, "Discussions," from '68 with Barry Guy and Jon Hiseman Irene Schweizer/Peter Kowald/Pierre Favre ("Santana," PIP/FMP) + Schweizer/Uli Trepte/Mani Neumeier ("Early Tapes," FMP) Dollar Brand "Anatomy of a South African Village" (Fontana) Bengt Egerbladh "Schizo" as a primer.
  19. Great rhythm section, of course, but Woods more than holds his own. I've told my story 'bout playing his Warm Woods LP in the Electric Fetus before haven't I? I'm not sure but I'd love to hear the story. RIP, maestro, and thank you.
  20. Yeah, I'd say one of his classic basslines is here:
  21. I have an original of it - you're right in that it's not bad, but nor is it my favorite Howard LP from the era (that would have to be Berlin Concert or Live in Europe Vol. 1).
  22. American cars are pieces of junk and have been for as long as I've been alive (38 years). The only car I've ever had that I actually liked was a Honda Civic (and that's saying a lot, considering the fact that I'm very tall).
  23. Yeah, I have seen him on a number of soul, funk and fusion LPs as a bassist - probably got the most royalties from his work with the Jackson 5 and Marvin Gaye.
